Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:15 Cheltenham: Our Mick 1pt win 12/1 Bet365 & Nadiya De La Vega 1pt win 12/1 Stan James Hoping for a big run for ante post Gold Cup selection Bold Sir Brian, however March may be the aim and there may be a couple with slightly better chances at the prices. Our Mick ran well here last March when five lengths behind Alfie Sherrin. That looks rock solid handicap form and The Package for one was behind. Its a fair ask first time out however Donald McCain is likely to have Our Mick pretty straight and with potential for some improvement he could go close here. Nadiya De La Vega goes well here and she was well fancied when falling in the Paul Stewart Ironspine Gold Cup. Prior to that she ran a solid third to Al Ferof and Walkon in the Paddy Power and lines up off the same mark today. If she is back in that form Nadiya De La Vega looks likely to be involved at the finish 2:25 Cheltenham: Cape Tribulation 1pt win 14/1 William Hill & Wayward Prince 1pt win 18/1 Stan James Cape Tribulation has always looked like a horse with lots of promise and he started to fulfill that at last year's Festival winning the Pertemps and then following up at Aintree. Over fences Cape Tribulation won the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day and if he can improve on that, (he will need to) there is a chance he could go close with a few question marks over the market leaders. Similar reasons for selecting Wayward Prince apply. He also has looked a horse with potential. He put up an impressive performance when not beaten far in the RSA here and then his form started to dip. However since joining Hilary Parrott he has followed Silviniaco Conti home at a respectable distance and then won nicely at Aintree. He also will need to improve, however with relatively few miles on the clock he just might. 3:00 Cheltenham: Whisper 2pts win 9/1 Bet365 Whisper lines up here unbeaten in his two outings and he could hardly have been more impressive. Nicky Henderson has a powerful string yet relies on this inmate against some strong opposition. That said Whisper comfortably got the better of 130 rated The Jugopolist last time out. May have this completely wrong, however wondering if the market has over reacted to The New Ones wide margin win. Topping up with another point at 9/1 since initial post. 4:10 Cheltenham: Mr Watson 1pt win 5/1 William Hill Mr Watson has some excellent form here. Running well against Melodic Rendezvous who went on to win the Grade One Tolworth at Sandown in fine style. Mr Watson went to Plumpton were the hood on he was an wasy winner. In his first handicap here with the hood again fitted, Mr Watson looks to be on a fair mark and and time might tell that it is a little lenient. Plenty of others in with a shout, however not hard to se why Mr Watson is near the head of the market.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 15th March Cheltenham Gold Cup: Katenko 1pt e/w 33/1 William Hill (1/4 123) Pleased to see Bold Sir Brian get up on Saturday, however it would be surprise to see him line up for the Blue Ribbon event. In contrast Katenko looked very impressive and there is every chance he could be better over further.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Ffos Las: Boyfromnowhere 1pt win 18/1 Skybet & Tanerko Emery 1pt win 7/2 Bet365 The Boyfromnowhere is just out of the handicap here, and A P McCoy is on Oscara Dara, yet this lightly raced six year old may be a little underestimated. He ran well when Beating High Ho Sheriff here over three miles before Christmas. Boyfromnowhere then went to Cheltenham where he was well down the field in a Grade. With his first run in a handicap off a light weight Boyfromnowhere could outrun his price. Tanerko Henry continues to improve and he loves the prevailing going. Both his last two wins have come on heavy going and the ability to handle that will be paramount today. It looks likely that Tanerko Emery will be just as effective over this extra trip and he looks a big danger off a light weight with David Pipe's team in fine form. 2:40 Ffos Las: Makethemostofnow 1pt win 16/1 Boylesports Looking at Makethemostofnow's last run does not give a lot of hope as he was beaten over 100 lengths. However, its not difficult to forgive that and his previous outing as both of those efforts came in Graded company and today in a handicap for the first time he has what might prove a workable mark of 128. The eye catching statistic for Makethemostofnow is his record at the course, where he is four from four. There is good reason to hope that this son of St Leger winner Milan can be as least as effective over this longer trip and he looks well worth a go at the odds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 12th March 2:05 Cheltenham: Overturn 2pts win 5/1 Bet Victor (Non runner free bet at Festival) If he wins tomorrow he will shorten up for the Arkle and Overturn while he is getting on to be starting out over jumps, has jumped really well in his two chases so far. Runs well at Cheltenham. All being well this will be his target.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:30 Musselburgh: Lord Wishes 1pt win 100/30 Paddy Power Lord Wishes won a couple of bumpers in good style and it was a little bit of a surprise that he was turned over on his debut over hurdles, although he may just have needed that. However, he won nicely here in December and its to be hoped that he can improve again and if he does he could be a lively outsider at Cheltenham next month. 2:50 Punchestown: Love Rory 1pt win 6/1 Boylesports Enda Bolger is the master at these events and its interesting to see his five year old Love Rory line up here. Some of the "usual suspects" line up and they may well be too experienced in this sphere, although its reasonable to assume that Love Rory will have been well schooled over these obstacles. Off ten stone and a half stone Love Rory looks worth a try. 3:30 Musselburgh: Mwaleshi 1pt win 9/1 Stan James Mwaleshi was still in the lead at the furlong pole last time before finding the trip a touch too far. He gives the appearance of still being on a mark that he could win off and dropping back to two miles here he could go close nipping round this tighter track with his useful claimer again taking off seven pounds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:30 Musselburgh: Agglestone Rock 1pt win 16/1 Bet Victor Something presumably went wrong with Agglestone Rock as he has not run over hurdles for 652 days. That last run over the sticks was a decent effort though, with a comfortable twelve length victory at Haydock. He's had three runs on the all weather without much encouragement since. Its hard to know if this is one last attempt to see if Agglestone Roack retains his ability or those three runs were to put him right for today. Worth an interest at the price to see if everything has been geared to today.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:50 Newbury: Captain Sunshine 1pt win 9/1 Bet365 Sometimes horses can be flattered by running through the field late in a race, however Captain Sunshine did have some decent form a few runs back before coming to grief in the Lanzarote, at Cheltenham and at Kempton. He would seem to have a few quirks, yet Captain Sunshine still gives the impression there is a big run in him and this step up to three miles plus, should be in his favour. 2:25 Newbury: Mail De Bieve 1pt e/w 8/1 Paddy Power (1/5 123) Mail De Bieve is of huge interest. He has some very good form in France, winning and placing in Graded races and locking horns with the likes of Rubi Ball who in turn had some battles with Long Run when he was trained the other side of the Channel. If and it is a big if, he retains anything like his old ability after being off, he should really win this getting weight all round. Tom George has done very well with some of his other French imports and his new charge is reported to have schooled well and to be in good shape. A big run could set him up for a tilt at the Gold Cup and he looks well worth chancing for that too at the odds (1pt e/w 50/1 1/4 123 especially with Boylesports who are NRNB) 2:40 Warwick: Majala 1pt win 9/2 Bet365 Majala seems to have really got his act together this season. Maybe the drop back in trip has brought about some improvement. He has won well at both Taunton and then Haydock this season and on a line through Ohio Gold there is not much between him and Fago yet Majala is four times the price. Tom George has a decent record with his chasers here too. The going should not be an issue and Majala looks set to run well. 3:25 Newbury: Village Vic 1pt win 20/1 Bet Victor & Court Minstrel 1pt win 16/1 Ladbrokes * Village Vic has been running in some top quality events and may have slipped under the radar a touch here. He has been placed behind The New One, Coneygree, and Melodic Rendezvous (when just behind Mr Watson). On his first run in a handicap he has a mark of 134 and he may just be competitive off that and it looks as though he has been saved for this race. As always Richard Johnson and Philip Hobbs are a good combination to have on side. Hopefully the ground will be fine for Court Minstrel, because if it is he could go close. He too has some decent form in good company, behind the likes of Melodic Rendezvous and Dodging Bullets and also The New One in the Aintree bumper. Court Minstrel is out of the weights, but Adam Wedge offsets that and the suspicion is connections feel he is unlikely to line up off this mark again with such a big prize at stake so are giving it a go. * Price taken 4/2/13 when posted in personal thread

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:40 Newbury: Killyglass 1pt win 10/1 Betfred Killyglass won nicely on his racecourse debut in Ireland and has now joined Emma Lavelle. The second that day has also moved across the Irish Sea and won on his debut for Donald McCain which gives the form a boost. Lots of horses in the line up with potential and scope however Killyglass has as much as most and can build on that initial run and go could get involved. Eye catching that Barry Geraghty is booked. Killyglass looks overpriced.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:20 Southwell: Dr Victoria 1/2 pt e/w 66/1 (1/4 12) Really only running for second place. However put in a reasonable enough performance on her only run here to think that is possible, and she ran ok for a fair way at Wolverhampton. There is just the (unlikely) scenario of Kabbaas not taking to the track / kickback.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Haydock: Across The Bay 1pt win 10/1 Stan James Across The Bay started the season off over fences in fine form, winning at Kelso and Carlisle before putting up a decent effort behind Wayward Prince at Aintree. Top weight in the Welsh National on heavy was a bridge too far and he reverts to hurdles today. Across The Bay has run well as anyone when he came up against Big Bucks in the past and as he is not in the line up today, Across The Bay looks to have a better chance than his odds suggest. 2:55 Haydock: Well Refreshed 1pt win 10/1 Bet365* & Silver By Nature 1pt win 22/2 Stan James Well Refreshed is lightly raced for a nine year old and he looks to be on an upward curve. He lines up on a hat trick. This distance and going should not be a problem and with the prospect of more improvement to come he should run well. After Well Refreshed's win at Plumpton trainer Gary Moore said that his charge loves the mud and just keeps galloping. With son Joshua taking off three pounds again, Well Refreshed could keep going when others may have had enough. Having won this twice in the past its reasonable to assume that this race has been the target for Silver By Nature by Lucinda Russell, although unfortunately he missed a scheduled prep race. As a result Silver By Nature now has a 679 day absence to overcome, even so, off only a four pound higher mark than his comfortable fifteen length win in 2011 he may be worth chancing, with conditions in his favour and a track he acts well on. * price taken 12/2/13 and posted in personal thread 3:15 Ascot: General Miller 1pt win 13/2 & Hold Court 1pt win 12/1 both Bet Victor General Miller has been off a long while, however if he retains his ability then he is likely to be in the shake up here. He was competitive in Graded races prior to being off and a mark of 139 could see him go close. With the training methods these days, the first run back is often the time to catch a horse that has been off so long. Hold Court was progressing nicely with a brace of wins at Ludlow, before biting off a little too much in the Grade Two at Warwick when taking on The New One, one of this seasons top novices. Hold Court may be the sort that does better in a bigger field handicap with a decent pace. He may have been a little underestimated here and could go well at a double figure price. 3:50 Ascot: Captain Chris 1pt win 11/4 William Hill* Captain Chris would appear to have the two best pieces of form this season on show with his win here in November and close second to Kempton where he was just outstayed in the King George. This looks about his right trip, the underfoot conditions are fine, and this is his favourite way round. With those three factors in his favour, all looks set for a big run. * price taken 12/2/13 and posted in personal thread
