Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:30 Market Rasen: Kings Legacy 1pt win 20/1 Ladbrokes & Paddy The Hare 1pt win 7/1 Coral Kings Legacy might just be another first time out winner for Lawney Hill. Still lightly raced over the large obstacles a spell point to pointing may have put him straight and he looks to have a sporting chance off this light weight Paddy The Hare has been in cracking form and although hiked up in the weights it was a taking performance here last time out and there is enough scope to think he could improve enough to take a hand. 3:50 Newbury: Oasis Town 1pt win 16/1 Paddy Power & Foxy Clarets 1pt win 40/1 Stan James Oasis Town won nicely at Carlisle and is a potential improver (like most in the field) however she is is nicely bred and was still green when getting her head in front. Kevin Ryan has hit the bar a few times in this and may just open his account with Oasis Town. Foxy Clarets is even more speculative, however the penny seemed to drop in the last furlong on debut. Richard Fahey is quite bullish in his column in the Sporting Life website and Foxy Clarets could well out run his price. 6:15 The Curragh: Venus De Milo 1pt win 7/1 William Hill Although overlooked by Jaseph O'Brien Venus De Milo looks a filly of possibly under rated potential. She showed a decent turn of foot to win last time out which may come in handy today too. Could be quite a bit more to come.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Ascot: Along Again 1pt win 9/1 Bet Victor Along Again catches the eye for inform Sir Michael Stoute. She did not see a racecourse until the end of June, however she looked to be getting the hang of things at Lingfield last time out always looking quite comfortable. Could be a fair bit more to come. 3:15 Ascot: Redvers 1pt win 16/1 & Es Que Love 1pt win 16/1 both Paddy Power Richard Hughes might just make the difference on Redvers. This race should suit Redvers who has gone well here in the past and Richard Hughes is an excellent judge of pace. The ground and trip look about right and Ed Vaughan has his string in decent form. Es Que Love has been on the go of late, however he has been taking his racing well and another big run looks on the cards. Especially if he is allowed to bowl along in front. Seven furlongs is about ideal and Olivier Peslier is back in the saddle. 3:50 Ascot: Very Nice Name 1pt win Betfair 49/1 & further 1pt e/w 25/1 Bet365 (1/4 123) It might be worth chancing Very Nice Name in a race where there are question marks over several of the fancied runners. Is Very Nice Name as good as the run in Meydan implies? His trainer is reported as saying he thinks Very Nice Name has improved since, then he is likely to say that. Nevertheless the Sheema Classic looked to be run in a decent time and if Very Nice Name is kept a little closer to the pace here, he could turn out to be well over priced. 3:55 Newmarket: Secondo 1pt win 9/2 Paddy Power Secondo looks a sprinter going places. Although up in the weights and in class here, he could not have won any easier at Haydock and all looks set for another big run. Just the sort that in form trainer Roger Charlton does well with.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Figures for the year 1st January to the 31st July 2013 Points: Staked 295 Returned 200.10 Loss 94.90 ROI -32.16% Bets: Struck 264 Profitable 19 Strike rate 7.20% No improvement and would get a better return from a slot machine...downward spiral as I spend less time studying, which produces worse results and then even less time studying which produces even worse results.........trying to concentrate on just a few races each day this month....and putting more time/effort in. Like with everything - you only get back what you put in !!

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:40 Goodwood: Havana Cooler 1pt win 5/1 William Hill Looks a progressive lightly raced sort who could go on again today. The form of his last run looks pretty decent based on those that lined up coming in to the race. And the fifth from Newmarket has gone in since. Tougher race and up in the weights, however Luca Cumani is in fine form and Havana Cooler may just be up to taking this competitive event. 3:15 Goodwood: Hot Snap 1pt win 8/1 Stan James Hot Snap lined up as favourite for the 1000 Guineas however she ran no real race there. She was very impressive previously and given time off to get over what was presumably wrong at Newmarket she might just bounce back here. Lady Cecil continues to have her horses running well. 3:50 Goodwood: Rex Imperator 1pt win 18/1 & Dinkum Diamond 1pt win 18/1 both Bet Victor Wide open as to be expected, however Rex Imperator and Dinkum Diamond look to have decent chances. Rex Imperator got pretty close to Tropics at Windsor and is now better off at the weights. William Haggis is always a man to be feared in these big handicaps and he is sure to have Rex Imperator primed for this. Dinkum Diamond has been pretty highly tried in the past running in Group and Listed company. Sometimes that's hard to assess the merit of those races so as toi tie in with handicap form. However, he ran well at Ascot in the Wokingham on only his third handicap start and with some luck in running could be there abouts again.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 12:55 Ascot: Famous Poet 1pt win 11/2 Stan James Famous Poet drops back to handicap company here and lightly raced for a four year old he could find this more to his liking. Saeed Bin Suroor has his string in decent form and there could be more to come from his colt here especially over this mile. 2:05 Ascot: Steps 1pt win 7/2 Paddy Power A reproduction of his last run here should see Steps hard to beat. That course form looks rock solid and although he is up a few pounds he did not have the run of the race last time and if racing closer to the action today he may be able to cancel out that rise. 2:40 Ascot: Broughton 1pt win 6/1 Bet365 Broughton looks a typical Mark Johnston horse that just keeps on improving. Although up in the weights here, he was probably value for a little more at Goodwood. Broughton may not have performed quite as well over this trip so far, but on breeding he should and the jury is still out on that. 2:55 Haydock: Telescope 1pt win Evens Paddy Power (price taken Thursday #1847 personal thread) Although he was a wide margin winner last time out in what was a good time, its still a little difficult assess Telescope. However he is a horse of massive potential and can hopefully take this on the way to the Arc. Sir Michael Stoute is in fine form and Ryan Moore takes the ride. 3:50 Ascot: Heavy Metal 1pt win 20/1 Paddy Power & Shahdaroba 1pt win 11/2 Bet Victor Rank outsider Heavy Metal has really gone off the boil since last season, however Mark Johnston's have a habit of bouncing back and Heavy Metal was thought enough of to be considered an outsider for the Guineas at one point. Might surprise as slipping down the handicap. Shahdaroba drops back in trip and that could be key here. Rod Millman's gelding won over six furlongs at the start of the season and although seven pounds higher today he won that race with some authority. Looked to be coming right back to his best at Chepstow.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:45 Deauville: Olympic Glory 1pt win 33/1 Betfair (£13 available) Olympic Glory looks well overpriced here. He has only suffered defeat twice. Once at the hands of Dawn Approach but there was less than a length between them over six furlongs. And then when never really going at Longchamp. That last run apart Olympic Glory has looked top class and its interesting that connections travel over for this competitive Group One when there are surely easier options. Looks certain to outrun his price and this Grand Criterium winner could bounce back here.

Desperately unlucky Steve - great pick, and great write up for such a big outsider, hard luck
