GaF
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy Maybe there is another issue here. Maybe I am a crap poker player. Or more likely - you're a decent player who hasnt yet adjusted his gameplay for the new format you've experienced on Boss (no ante's). staffy
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy I am not saying this because I have had a bad run or because I am pissed off cus im not anymore its just poker but just lately I have become a losing player. It maybe is time to accept that that is the norm for me.
slapdash
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy I haven't noticed that kind of blatant cheating on the €50 tables, but I don't know if that's because: (a) I'm not observant enough. (b) The players are more honest. © The player pool is a lot smaller, so if you blatantly cheat then you're going to keep meeting the players you've cheated. (d) The dishonest players are more skilled at colluding and can do it without being so blatant.
slapdash
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy I confess I've started doing that. Yes it is wrong - but if others are doing it and the network is doing nothing to clamp down on it (as they appear not to be) then you have to do it or lose equity to those who are doing it - I think getting others to fold to your aces is a big help when the blinds are big. I believe this tactic makes a big difference. I've noticed an increase in people lately saying what they have, then blatently not having it - so maybe that will decrease the effectiveness of it (though when I "declare" I always show) In a week when several PLers have claimed that they'd murder a complete stranger for a million quid, I'm not going to get moralistic about announcing your cards in a poker game. :tongue2 But if you announce your hand when you shove with a monster, what do you do when you shove without a monster? Ethics aside, I suspect it's much less profitable long-term if you're going to play the same people a lot in the future. Which may explain why it's mostly died out on the €50 tables. GaF
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy I will typically only "announce" my cards when I've got AA, blinds are high and I'm mid stacked (but not safe) - I say something like "AA and I'll show". I say I do it - I've done it maybe a couple of times - so it's not huge .... but it "boiled over" for me when I didn't do it a few times and my aces were outdrawn and I lost, but others were doing it, to my expense when I went out after they took hands down uncontested - I figured that it was hitting my ROI - if the Netwrok wont deal with it, then my assumption is that it's "acceptable"

Only two other regulars, one of whom is a certified nutter. (Unfortunately the other one is immediately to my left.) The others don't really seem to understand the game: I honestly think the standard in this $275 game may be worse than an average €3 Boss cooler! I'm bound to lose now I've written that! :lol

slapdash
Re: Coolers - lets discuss strategy Well done Slap :clap You ready for a Step 5 yet? Actually, ... yes! :D My "system" on these is that I play Step 4's to build my bank of tokens and play a Step 5 when I'll have enough tokens left to play a given number of Step 4's. And I increase the number by one each time. So last time I played a Step 5 I left myself 6 buy-ins to Step 4, this time I need to leave myself 7 buy-ins. And I've just got enough! :nana It's been a while since my last Step 5, as my "bank" dropped down to 3 Level 4 buy-ins at one point. The slightly frustrating thing about these is that there's very little activity at Levels 4 and 5, so you can be waiting for days to play. Actually, maybe you should make a small bet on the river? There are plenty of hands he could have where he'll check it down if given the chance but might pay a little if he thinks you're just trying to pick up an unwanted pot.
