RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps)

Recommended Posts

New Years Resolution:- One Thread Only for Handicaps for me:ok Following on from the 'Specialisation' thread, I've started to post my analysis of all big field handicaps in the daily threads. For easy reference, I'm going to put them all in this one thread so you can see for completeness how (un)successful my thoughts prove to be! I will add in the selections made so far (copied from daily threads)...yes, ok I've had a good start but it looks good with a bit of success at the front end! For each selected race, I will post 1 or 2 selections, plus 3 against the field for forecast / tricast purposes. I won't necessarily be backing them all but will ONLY post up my fancies. Remember, no bet is no problem! For the purposes of the thread during 2007, I will keep P/L for the EW selections, the forecasts (using the Exacta) and the tricasts:ok ....although I do believe the tricast is a mug bet, some may choose to follow. Stakes will be calculated as 5pts EW for individual selections, 1pt combo on the forecast (6pts total), 1pt combo on the tricast (6pts total)

Leicester 3.30. Ppersonally I would steer clear but for those of you who want a bit of interest:- The 3 market leaders have decent credentials but question marks remain. LA GRANDE VILLEZ - in form stable but steps up to handicap company today DHEHDAAH - high in the handicap. SARIN - 17lb higher than when winning 2 starts ago Therefore my 2 EW against the field would be:- MAGIC SKY - capable on its day and will relish this soft ground. High in weights but useful 5lb claimer PRIME CONTENDER - creditable 9th in Cl 1 Ladbroke hurdle 12 days ago. Much easier grade today and down 2lb. For those looking at the forecast, I would recommend MAGIC SKY, PRIME CONTENDER and LA GRANDE VILLEZ as 3 to concentrate on. Again, not a heat to invest huge stakes on:ok Good luck with whatever you decide. __________________ RussP

As per my comments in the 'Specialisation' thread, there are 4 big field handicaps at Taunton today. My thoughts are below:- (ps, no posts tomorrow day as out AGAIN with the family:$ ) 12.40 Taunton BETTING FORECAST: 7/2 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=584792&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Penny´s Crown, 5/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=604402&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Reelinga, :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=529240&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Rightontime, 6/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=548218&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Little Rort, 7/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=546962&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Ikemba, 9/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=578071&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Astral Affair, 14/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=588216&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Oktis Morilious, :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=429683&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Pop Gun, 16/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=548588&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Boom Or Bust, 20/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=552911&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Palamedes, :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=658664&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Secret Travel, 25/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=589316&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Griffin´s Legacy, 40/1 :OWSize('RP_Popup','http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/racing_horse_form.sd?horse_id=562791&race_id=421544',800,480,'no','yes','yes')'>Lawood. Form of the market principles is decidedly dodgy to say the least so I'll have to look further afield for a bet in this. POP GUN could be the one at very rewarding odds. Good jockey booking in 5lb claimer Andrew Glassonbury, and in-form jockey too with 25/1 and 11/1 handicap winners in the last 2 weeks. Add to that placed horses in handicaps at 11/1 and 12/1 from only 9 handicap rides in the last fortnight means we have the jockey to follow on top here. Very interesting that this horse is stepped up from 2m to 3m today and that could be the key here. 2 runs this season should have put this horse spot on and better ground should help. Current available @ 19.5 on Betfair. Have a bit EW on this horse. Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Not much decent handicap action today. There are 2 possible races at Ascot and 1 at Musselburgh. 1.50 Ascot BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 Tessanoora, 5/1 Kelrev, 6/1 Lord Of Beauty, Rosita Bay, 10/1 Heathcote, Tritonville Lodge, 11/1 Absolut Power, 12/1 Up At Midnight, 14/1 Atlantic City, Cold Mountain, Festive Chimes, 16/1 Wotchalike. Going here for the rag, currently trading at 20's, in FESTIVE CHIMES. Have I gone mad? No....has been off the course for 6 weeks but won 1st time up at Huntingdon this season at 28/1. Placed in 16 of 24 hurdle starts to date. Only poor run this term came at Cheltenham where the horse IMO did not handle the track. Comes here fresh and has a very useful 5lb claimer on board. Dangers aplenty though with TESSANORA likely to go close from an in form stable and ROSITA BAY, stepping up in class but in superb winning form at present. EW Selection:- FESTIVE CHIMES (SP) Forecast/Tricast Perm:- FESTIVE CHIMES / ROSITA BAY / TESSANORA 3.35 Ascot BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 Krismas Cracker, 5/1 The King Of Angels, 6/1 Minella Tipperary, 13/2 Lothian Falcon, 8/1 Delightful Cliche, Madiba, 9/1 Earnest, 10/1 Nudge And Nurdle, 12/1 Coeur D´Alene, 16/1 Hill Forts Timmy, Sintos, 20/1 Khadija, 25/1 Saddlers Cloth, 40/1 Investment Wings, Lord Of Adventure. Leaving this race alone. Personally I can't see beyond the front 4 in the betting forecast but can't really choose between them. KRISMAS CRACKER would be my tentative selection but its a no bet race for me. NO BET 3.25 Musselburgh BETTING FORECAST: 100/30 Millagros, 5/1 Majorca, Masafi, 11/2 Bogus Dreams, 6/1 Saif Sareea, 10/1 Silvertown, 12/1 Double Vodka, 16/1 Caraman, European Dream, 20/1 South Bronx, 25/1 Locksmith. Decent contest here. Not many that can easily be discounted but I prefer to focus on horses who come here fit with the benefit of a recent run. There are 3 that have run in the last 14 days and my focus is on those. EUROPEAN DREAM has been running well in novice company but was outclassed lto. Ground was also too soft that day. Should also appreciate this tighter track. MAJORCA won here 10 days ago and comes here in top form so should go close. Preference though is for SAIF SAREEA who reopposes MAJORCA on 10lb better terms for almost 5L. Really consistent horse who goes well on flat tracks and on good ground. Gets on well with the jockey but I have to admit to being concerned about Miss Davidsons strength in a tough finish. Earlier in the year, was beat only 7L by ACAMBO (the Ladbroke winner) - that is very good form. EW Selection:- SAIF SAREEA (take the 7/1 with Sporting Odds) Forecast/Tricast Perm:- SAIF SAREEA / EUROPEAN DREAM / MAJORCA

I didn't back this today as I backed it many time before and the fooker suffers from 2nditist. I seen it out for today and thought no matter what I'd never back that horse ever again as long as I live. Glue factory for you my boy. Unlucky Russ. I hear its got a latin name equivalent 'Bagoshiteus'

Ditto, lost loads on this fooker last season, certainly consistent...at coming 2nd. I didn't back it and won't back it again, i'd rather see it on my plate with chips than on a racecourse. :)

Stop rubbing it in.....I get the message:rollin Saif Sareea, Chips & Beans for tea then, with a little bit of ketchup:unsure
And i'm sure after tasting horse meat for the 1st time you'll say: "Tastes just like chicken" :eek :lol ;) Your veg and potatoes will come 1st, no doubt the horse will come 2nd.......again

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps :welcome to 2007. Again no real big fields but will have a crack at the 3.00 from Exeter and the 2 handicaps at Cheltenham with 8+ runners. 3.00 Exeter BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 Olimpo, 5/1 Coustou, Signature Tune, 11/2 Brave Jo, Devito, 7/1 Fleurette, 10/1 Orion Express, 12/1 Kenwyn, 20/1 Picot De Say, 25/1 Oxybau. Heavy going at Exeter today and we need to look for something that will definitely go on the ground. I fancy FLEURETTE here who relishes heavy going although has not encountered it for over 12 months with a win and a 2nd from 2 starts. Has been campaigned over fences so far this season without success and a revert to hurdles could do the trick. Would have to oppose likely fav OLIMPO with the lack of a recent completed start. SIGNATURE TUNE would have to enter calculations if handling the ground and the step up in trip. EW Selection: FLEURETTE (8/1 with Bet365 or Paddy Power) Perm: FLEURETTE / SIGNATURE TUNE / BRAVE JO 12.30 Cheltenham BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Templer, 7/2 Open De L´Isle, The Big Canadian, 5/1 Beau Michel, 9/1 William Bonney, 12/1 King Louis, 14/1 Thenford Flyer, 20/1 Mr Shambles, 50/1 Blazing Batman. Interesting heat with Cheltenham encountering heavy ground today. TEMPLER should go well for Richard Johnson but has 8lb penalty for lto win, OPEN DE L'ISLE comes here on the back on 2 wins but they came in poor races so too short for me and BEAU MICHEL has inexperience jock on top. The one for me is WILLIAM BONNEY, ridden by Noel Fehily. The only one with course experience when running 3rd in a top class novice hurdle. No problems with heavy ground, won in Ireland on similar going. Dangers may come from KING LOUIS who ran well at Newbury lto before clouting the 3rd last and well weighted THE BIG CANADIAN. E/W Selection: WILLIAM BONNEY (6/1 with Betfred or Coral) Perm: WILLIAM BONNEY / KING LOUIS / THE BIG CANADIAN 2.50 Cheltenham BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Beare Necessities, 7/2 Ladalko, 4/1 Freetown, 6/1 Heir To Be, 15/2 Magnifico, 8/1 Just Beth, 10/1 Mistanoora, 40/1 Jug Of Punch, 100/1 Biscar Two, 200/1 Water Pistol. The front 3 in the market will surely be popular but I'll oppose them all. BEARE NECESSITIES is up 5lb for close up 3rd in a Cl 3 (this is a Cl 2), LADALKO is better over fences and has too much weight and FREETOWN is up 7lb for 2nd lto....trainer is very upset about that. JUST BETH won just 9 days ago, beating MAGNIFICIO, and has a 6lb penalty but seems to handle its racing better than the runner up so is the selection today. Ran 3rd in this race last year, in a stronger field, so should be in the mix today. E/W Selection: JUST BETH (13.5 win @ Betfair, 9/1 with Sporting Odds) Perm: JUST BETH / MAGNIFICO / HEIR TO BE

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps

:welcome to 2007. Again no real big fields but will 2.50 Cheltenham BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Beare Necessities, 7/2 Ladalko, 4/1 Freetown, 6/1 Heir To Be, 15/2 Magnifico, 8/1 Just Beth, 10/1 Mistanoora, 40/1 Jug Of Punch, 100/1 Biscar Two, 200/1 Water Pistol.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Only 1 race for me to concentrate on for Tuesday:- 3.35 Folkestone BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Rustler, 4/1 Dance With Wolves, Isam Top, Mount Benger, 10/1 Asaateel, Corker, 12/1 Akash, 16/1 Ndola, 33/1 Silistra, 50/1 Make My Hay. Liking to look for something EW, I'm opposing the first 4 in the market....RUSTLER makes handicap debut with a big weight whilst DANCE WITH WOLVES, ISAM TOP and MOUNT BENGER all raised 7lb+ in weights for recent wins. Therefore, I am plumping for CORKER under Tom Scudamore. Improving slowly and goes well on rain softened ground. Has failed to stay 2m2f+ in the past so this 2m1f trip looks ideal today. ASAATEEL could enter calculations too. EW Selection: CORKER Perm: CORKER / RUSTLER / MOUNT BENGER
