Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps 1 race for Friday after a couple of quiet days:- 1.40 Musselburgh BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Double Deputy, 7/1 Ballyhale, 8/1 Polar Gale, 9/1 Bayside, 10/1 Sybarite Chief, 12/1 I´ll Do It Today, Or De Grugy, Taras Knight, 14/1 The Right People, 16/1 James Bay, 20/1 Donna´s Double, 25/1 Buffy, Greek Star, Kyber, Rouge Et Noir. Concerned over the short priced fav who hasn't really shown much until lto. 5lb higher too so I'll have to oppose DOUBLE DEPUTY. Despite 15 runners, I really think this is a poor field BALLYHALE has a chance but has a big weight, although useful apprentice on top but my preference is for BAYSIDE. Ridden by Graham Lee, this horse seems to be coming to the boil. Makes handicap debut today off a decent mark but the making of this horse could be the extra distance and the better ground. Course winner too. TARAS KNIGHT is another to consider at bigger odds. EW Selection: BAYSIDE Perm: BAYSIDE / BALLYHALE / TARAS KNIGHT

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps 2 for Saturday: 2.20 Haydock BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 Tomenoso, 5/1 Vicario, 11/2 Carlys Quest, 6/1 Hirvine, Huka Lodge, 7/1 Desert Tommy, Great As Gold, 10/1 Moustique De L´Isle, 25/1 Lazy But Lively The value for me here is the 5/1 generally available on CARLYS QUEST. Yes, we are backing a 13yo, but one that is in decent form. Ran on very well lto in a Cl 2 (this is Cl 3) to finish 5L behind Just Beth, who has won at Cheltenham since. Has dropped back to a decent mark and, with a decent pace, I expect this horse to challenge on favourable heavy ground. Several dangers are on the list but I fear some are disadvantaged by the ground and others have to overcome big weight rises. Back over hurdles, MOUSTIQUE DE L'ISLE is a threat to all, as is GREAT AS GOLD, who finished a close 2nd lto, and escapes without a penalty. EW Selection: CARLYS QUEST Perm: CARLYS QUEST / MOUSTIQUE DE L'ISLE / GREAT AS GOLD 3.10 Sandown BETTING FORECAST: 9/2 Pilca, 5/1 Kings Signal, 11/2 Orcadian, 6/1 Ma Yahab, 7/1 Papini, Tous Chez, 14/1 Nyborg Madrik, 16/1 Heathcote, 20/1 Lunar Crystal, Misbehaviour, Premier Dane, 40/1 Mr Dinglawi. Decent race here. I fear something at a bigger price here could upset the odds so will plump for Pipe trained LUNAR CRYSTAL. Has run some very good races here in big handicaps and will like the ground as shown when close 2nd to Tarlac here on similar ground. Reverts from fences today and conditions look spot on today for a big run at big odds. PILCA rates a threat but doubts over its ability on heavy, KINGS SIGNAL (who fell when running big race lto) and ORCADIAN (2nd in same race) have to overcome 7lb rises, whillst MA YAHAB could struggle at this track and on this going. EW Selection: LUNAR CRYSTAL (take the 20/1 with Betfred) Perm: LUNAR CRYSTAL / KINGS SIGNAL / HEATHCOTE

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps This heavy ground doesn't help along with dodgy aw racing making it even harder to pick decent winners. 125-1 and 100-1 winners in the same week, how the hell could you put up a case for them. :wall Lets hope we can find some 100-1 winners when we're at Wolverhampton. :D

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Mondays handicap for analysis:- 2.00 Ludlow BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Trompette, 5/1 Theatre Diva, 15/2 The Composer, 8/1 Nicki Boy, 10/1 Cantgeton, 12/1 Hot Lips Page, Seribase, Tora Petcha, 14/1 Red Moor, 16/1 Vinmix De Bessy, 20/1 The Local, Wotchalike, 25/1 Indian Star, 33/1 Buffers Lane, Oumeyade, Sunday City, Xellance. Decent handicap for this course, with quite a number in with chances. I want to oppose TROMPETTE, THEATRE DIVA, THE COMPOSER and CANTGETON because they have all been off the track more than a month, so wellbeing must be an issue. NICKI BOY is the other horse at the fore of the market but will surely find it difficult on its handicap debut. Of the longer priced horse, THE LOCAL has a squeak as does TORA PETCHA but the preference is for RED MOOR. This horse comes from a small stable but continues to run well, running 6L 3rd lto just 10 days ago. Clearly in good heart as being turned out so soon. Stayed on well last time and should be closer this time if likely faster paces ensues. Goes on the ground, proven in this class and best trip so big run expected. EW Selection: RED MOOR

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps RED MOOR...5th @ 16/1:wall Selection for Wednesday is:- 2.10 Wincanton BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Not For Diamonds, 5/1 Canopus, 11/2 Darkshape, 8/1 Another Burden, 9/1 Flying Forme, 12/1 Gotta Get On, 14/1 Wondersobright, 16/1 Cool Society, Massini Sunset, 20/1 Maximinus, Seemma, Storm Prince, 25/1 Dear Sir, 33/1 Hazelbury, 40/1 Dr Charlie, Montenda, 50/1 Celtic Major. Big field here and not a bunch to be overly confident about but I'll take a chance with WONDERSOBRIGHT. Ran its best race this season when close 3rd lto after leading for a long way. The step up in trip seemed to suit this horse. On a decent mark still and has useful 5lb claimer on board. Could steal a lead again today and, although more challengers, could easily get placed. If it jumps better and more fluently, it would be no surprise to see this horse get its head in front. Dangers likely to come from 4yo CANOPUS ridden by AP, the Venetia Williams trained DARKSHAPE and ANOTHER BURDEN. EW Selection: WONDERSOBRIGHT Perm: WONDERSOBRIGHT / ANOTHER BURDEN / DARKSHAPE

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps 3.10 Kelso If racing goes ahead, this looks to be a decent hurdle race. Several with chances including bottom weight ENDLESS POWER, however steps up in class today and struggled when last seen at this level. TROLL and RADAR are 2 more stepping up in class following lto wins but both do go well on bottomless ground. Preference however is for useful dual purpose horse TRANSIT. 17lb lower over hurdles than fences, has won on heavy ground and race fit, this horse looks a stand out EW bet at around 10/1. Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Nothing again yesterday. 3.15 Kempton Shortish price fav here in RACING DEMON who is top class over fences. Very competitive heat but I'll plump E/W on AFRAD at 10/1 with Betfred. From the in-form Henderson team, with Mick Fitz on board. Has been plying its trade over fences this season, but looked decent over hurdles previously. Will appreciate soft ground, and has its ideal trip today of 2m5f. Interesting though how it will handle the switch back to hurdles. Also expect NATHOS to run a big race at a big price. Was going well lto when falling 4 out behind TAKE A MILE. NATION STATE also has a squeak off 10st. EW Selection - AFRAD (10/1 with Betfred) Perm - AFRAD / RACING DEMON / NATHOS

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Monday 15th Jan 3.50 Fakenham We have a warm fav here in the shape of THENFORD STAR. Looks a good thing on paper in this easier race, with Thornton back on board. However, I wouldn't want to be taking Evs on a horse that looked a shade one paced lto and, today, carries its biggest weight of 11-9. For me, the EW value of the race is COUGAR, trained by R Rowe. 3lb claimer Paddy Merrigan takes the ride and has rode 2 winners from just 5 hurdle starts for this trainer. Only ride of the day for him, as well as being Rowe's only runner. Eased a further 1lb in the weights for todays run, and with conditions in its favour, should run well at around 12/1. First run of this season saw this horse finish 6th over 2m5f, when staying on well to finish only 7L behind the winner, all its best work coming in the closing stages. Stepped up in trip next time to 3m2f, this was expected to suit but, having come to challenge 3 out when in with a big shout, faded quite badly giving the impression that this was a bit too far. Last start can be ignored as the heavy ground probably didn't suit the horse, although it was staying on towards the end. Optimum trip today IMO, and ideal going of G-S. The other big priced option would be LAZY LENA if reproducing its best, whilst GOLDEN FEATHER represents the in form Venetia Williams team. Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Another loser on Monday:sad Onwards and upwards, I hope:hope Wed 17th Jan 3.40 Newbury Bannow Strand is clearly the best horse in the race, but all its form has been over fences, albeit at a much, much higher level than this. Not a horse to be taking Evs about. Moorlands Return has a chance for Tom O'Brien but has been raised 9lbs for good 2nd to Schuh Shine lto - that could be enough to stop this horse. Therefore, we are looking for some E/W value here. English Jim should run a big race - on a career high mark but 3m on heavy ground suits. Only 6L 3rd in a Cl 3 lto, this a Cl 4. Stable also in form. The other 2 to come in for consideration are the Brendan Powell trained pair Men of Destiny and Sir Bathwick. The former is a massive price judged on 2nd here 3 starts ago to Cousin Nicky. However, shown nothing in 2 recent starts so the E/W bet here is Sir Bathwick. Unexposed with only 6 starts to its name, winning 2 starts ago when staying on very well. Wasn't travelling the best 3 out but this horse is as tough as they come. Proved it was no fluke lto when 5th in a hot handicap at Chepstow. The horse looked to be struggling quite a way out but stayed on for pressure and would have finished much closer had it twice not been blocked badly at crucial times. Solid credentials, and with improvement likely, should go close. E/W - Sir Bathwick (RPF 9/1) Perm - Sir Bathwick, English Jim, Moorlands Return

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps Sir Bathwick unplaced too:sad 2 races to concentrate on today, both at Wincanton. 3.20.....I think Abragante is opposable here, despite being in winning form. Bens Turn will go very close. Likes big fields and the muddling pace found this horse out lto. The big priced E/W alternative is bottom weight Methodical, available at 16/1 Ladbrokes. Low weight will be a big plus in this ground, the horse has been running well and remains on a decent mark. Failed to stay lto when disputing at the business end and a repeat of that effort will see this horse in the mix. 3.50.....we may need to wait until his last ride to see a Ruby winner. I think Almost Broke is his best chance today, at a meeting where Nicholls and Ruby dominated last year. This horse is available at 15/2 with Betdirect. Won this race last year and is only 4lb higher for todays renewal. Has not yet hit top form in 3 races this term but 2 of those were over hurdles. Interestingly enough, Ruby was not on board for any of them. We should see a completely different horse today.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) 2.30 Hun.....King Louis (RPF 12/1) Cl 4 handicap hurdle, with few runners with any form to recommend them here. We will probably have a short priced fav in the Jonjo-trained Albertas Run, but it looked very one paced and possibly a non stayer on its handicap debut last month. Il'Athou reverts from fences so difficult to know what today will bring back over hurdles. There are stamina doubts surrounding Hot Lips Page, whilst Ortega may struggle to go the pace on this better ground. Art Point made an encouraging reappearance after 2 years off but then has been off the track for a further 3 months, so doubts are there over its wellbeing. Greenfield would have a chance on the pick of its form but completely out of form at present, however does have Richard Johnson doing the steering so not out of it, and don't forget Secured - despite no form to speak to, trainer is in superb form. The selection however is for King Louis who ran promisingly behind William Bonney in a hot handicap at Cheltenham on New Years Day. Led for most of the way before being outpaced, then staying on again, giving the impression that this step up to 2m5f will suit. Jockey went easy on the horse that day, and with a 1lb drop in the weights as well as this being an easier race, it's not hard to see this horse get its head in front today.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Back from a break over the sticks, and the first one for today is at Sandown. Just a remainder, all selections to be backed EW:- 1.35......Chilling Place (RPF 8/1) Very competitive heat here but the selection is the Hobbs trained Chilling Place. Has fallen both starts this season, but looked set to be placed in both of those. They were both better races than this. Been given a break and this horse can run well fresh. Better ground will help, as well the ease in class and trip. Oneway has too much weight, whilst Dempsey may struggle with the weight too as well as its poor jumping. Madison Du Berlais, Jericho III and Bohemian Spirit all come here in winning form and should go well but their weight rises for lto wins could just be enough to stop them. Andreas is a frustating type, usually well back but struggles to win its share, whilst Kalca Mome is the stables 2nd string looking at jockey bookings. Tysou and Hasty Prince both yield from powerful trainer/ jockey combos and could both go close if at their best, but we'll stick with Chilling Place...let's hope its jumping holds up.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Cheers Mighty Magyar:ok Just the one for today, from Musselburgh:- 3.30.....Forthright (RPF 8/1) Cl 2 handicap hurdle, with 15 runners, and it looks a very open renewal. Kings Quay is a worthy fav, but I'm put off as its only a 5yo and regular jockey G Lee rides Dancing Lyra, a horse I'm opposing as it's only victory came in a very weak maiden hurdle. Saying that, it was over CD so clearly has a liking for the track. Bogus Dreams takes a 10lb hike in the weights, as well as a big jump in class, whilst Double Vodka also has a 8lb rise to overcome for its lto victory when the race was run to suit that day. Gringo has poorly lto and that run would need some forgiving if we were to get involved today, whilst Pilca is surely now feeling the effects of a very busy schedule. Sunday City only has one bit of form to recommend it, that was lto when 3rd in a Cl 3, but has been harshly put up 3lb for that effort. The selection therefore is Forthright, from the foot of the handicap. Handicap debut today, on only its 4th hurdles start. 3 seconds so far, all against decent types, last time going down to decent flat recruit South O'The Border. Has flat speed so on this sharp flat track, with decent ground forecast, could make all the difference in the closing stages. Well regarded by stable, who have it entered in the totesport Trophy, so needs to produce the goods here if it is to go onto that race.
