RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Putting the small profit on the line with one at Market Rasen:- 4.20.....I'll Do It Today (RPF 13/2) Short priced fav in City Streets but short of experience despite making a winning debut. The selection is the Jefferson trained I'll Do It Today. Yet to win over hurdles but has shown enough promise to suggest that today could be the day. The step up in trip and easing of the ground will surely help this horse today. Has been off the bridle in its races but has always stayed on to good effect. Another drop in weights too. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) 2 big handicap hurdles at Newbury today, and both providing us with bets:- 2.05.....Minella Tipperary (5/1 Ladbrokes - Win) Progressive horse taking on some exposed types here. Very strong trainer / jockey combo, 7lb higher than lto win but off a decent racing weight in a stronger race. 3 wins from 5 starts this season. Loves softish going and 3m stamina test is ideal so expected to be in the mix. 3.15.....Victram (16/1 Sporting Odds - EW) 3rd behind Acambo and Tarlac in the Ladbroke 2 starts ago but ridden far too patiently that day. 7lb claimer takes over today and has a chance of overturning that form. Has travelled over to these shores 3 times in the last 18 months for big field top handicap hurdles and record reads 3-1-3 so definite chance of being in the frame. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Monday 19th Feb My EW selection in the 2.45 Carlisle is CAMDEN BELLA from the lower end of the handicap. Has light weight and jockey takes another 7lb off its back. I think likely fav Brooklyn Breeze will struggle to give this horse almost 2 stone. The selection today will have its ideal conditions - soft ground which brought a return to form lto and a further drop in trip (won over todays distance last season). Is slightly better off with Minister Shadow too, who has become a frustrating type. Really expect this horse to go close for its top stable. Should be around the 6/1 mark. Excellent jockey booking and off a racing weight of only 10-8. CD winner and running very consistently of late. Disappointed a little lto when fav but ground probably wasn't soft enough that day. Could easily make amends today.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Wednesday 21st Feb We'll concentrate on the 2.30 at Ludlow and go EW on the bottom weight NIMBY RUN. Won 12 days ago in similar company at Kempton and races off a 4lb higher mark today. Same jockey on board today, who gave the horse an enterprising ride. Was coming back to the field at the end of the race, but ground a little on the soft side that day. Better going today should see this horse improve again, and with only 10-6 and a 5lb claim, this horse should be coming over the last with every chance of notching its 2nd win this month. Have taken 6pts place @ 1.8 / 4pts win @ 5.2 on Betfair

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Monday 26th Feb:- The 2.40 at Hereford sees a 2m handicap chase on soft ground, and the EW money here is for THIEVES GLEN, currently around 8/1. Only 1 win from 28 starts, but this horse has improved with each run this season. Edged out lto when running well but finishing tired on heavy ground. Likes soft, best at 2m and goes well after a break. The 2 market leaders both have big weights rises to overcome, which makes this horse a knocking EW bet. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) First jumps bet for a while: 3.00 Southwell With 2 non runners, 12 go to post for this Cl 5 chase over 17f. Only 4 animals below 10/1 and we'll concentrate on these, with prices from Hills: Swings N Strings (2/1) - Keeps on improving and has won 3 of last 4. Has to defy another weight rise, and I'll be taking it on at such short odds. Also has a big weight to lump round here. Dalraith (5/1) - Raised 4lb for close 2nd lto. Has a massive weight here, and that might should be enough to stop this horse. Perfect Punch (5/1) - Yet to win in 13 chase starts but promising 2nd lto. Needs some respite from the handicapper before it gets its head in front. Newbay Lady (6/1) - Gets in off just 10-3 here with Tjade Collier taking another 7lb off its back, and he is value for that claim. Ran well over C&D 3 starts and has since fallen and failed to stay 2m4f. Should appreciate return to track, return to distance, and will go very close after being eased yet another 2lb. Is 7lb lower than its effort here 3 starts ago. * Of the others, Pure Brief looks a danger on the pick of its form, provided it comes back well from its absence. Recommended Bet Newbay Lady (6/1 William Hills) - 5pts EW

Recommended Bet Newbay Lady (6/1 William Hills) - 5pts EW 3rd:ok Small profit of 2.5pts. None of the top 3 did anything, 2 falling early on so I was right to oppose them, whilst Pure Brief grabbed 2nd so decent analysis there. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Again, I'm going to continue with this jumps thread and back today with 2 big priced selections in handicap hurdles: 4.20 Fontwell 14 face the starter for this Class 4 handicap hurdle, over an extended 2m6f. We have a very warm fav in Terramarique, who admittedly will be hard to beat, so let's find some EW value with: Mistified (16/1 BlueSq) - This horse is race fit having been keep going through the summer, and it has been running particularly well. Has a nice racing weight of 11-1 and is off a decent mark of 96, despite it being 6lb above its last winning mark. Goes well here with 2 course wins from just 5 attempts, and was only beaten 4L here lto. The key to this horse though is that it is very consistent, especially when encountering ground that is GF or better. It's tries on that ground since coming over the waters from Ireland read.. 4th of 14 (beaten 4L) 1st of 9 (won a hd) 1st of 14 (won 2.5L) 3rd of 15 (beaten 4L) 4th of 12 (beaten 7L) 6th of 10 (beaten 54L) - ignore that run! 3rd of 14 (beaten 1.5L) 3rd of 11 (beaten 11.5L) 3rd of 9 (beaten 6L) With a bit of improvement and with Andrew Thornton on board, 16/1 could look a very big price come 4.30pm. 5.20 Fontwell 12 runners in this Class 4 handicap hurdle over 2m2f, with the bookies going 4/1 the field so an open event. We will look at a big priced horse in: Will The Till (20/1 BetDirect) - Evan Williams does particularly well with his summer jumpers and this is another that will be seen to better effect on better ground. 2 decent 4th placed efforts in 2 of its last 3 starts, with a disappointing run in between over a trip too far on unsuitably soft ground. Previous to that was 2nd in Class 3 handicap on todays GF ground, this going today could bring about further improvement. Plugged on well lto when the unfancied 1 of 2 stable runners. Should appreciate the trip today, and with expected improvement from this lightly raced type, 20/1 looks a massive price.
RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Jumps) Last 2 didn't provide a return, although Mistified was just run out of it into 4th:( Onto today, I'm staying well away from Longchamp and concentrating on the UK jumps racing. 2 bets for today, which are: 5.20 Huntingdon 17 runners lining up for this Class 5 handicap hurdle, over a marathon 3m2f. I'm sticking with the market leaders here and having what I consider an EW bet to nothing in: Rainbow Tree (5/1 William Hill) - Joint top weight for this race, and well fancied for this. Has been mixing hurdles and chases, with some success. Useful 3lb claimer Tom Messenger is on board which is a plus for me. Will certainly appreciate this test of stamina too, and drop down in grade to Class 5 is indication of expectations today. Firmish ground in its favour, and this looks the most likely in an open heat. Will be suited by this track, as it has a big tendency to jump to its right. 4.30 Kelso 10 runners for this Class 4 handicap chase. An open heat, going 7/2 the field. I'm dismissing the favourites, and going EW on: Jendali Lad (9/1 William Hill) - Graham Lee takes the ride on this horse, carrying only 10st today. Lee is 2 from 4 for this trainer so far this term. Weight could count today over an extended 2m6f, so good jockey on low weighted animal makes the 9/1 look generous. Another horse to be very consistent whilst mixing hurdles and chases recently. Looks better the further it travels, with the only poor run this term being when campaigned over 2m2f. Given poor ride lto when 4th of 8, held up in a slowly run race and not able to land a blow. Conditions look right, for a horse that likes top of the ground and should go well at a good EW price.
