Daily Singles, Doubles, Trebles and Trixies

Lots of high class action today; I am hoping that Laurens gets her own back on Iridessa and Hermosa and retires triumphantly

Three doubles and two trebles and some win bets today

(1)    1.40 Newm Eva Maria 3/1, 2.50 Nm Never Alone 9/4 =-£4 v £52.00

Trebles:

(1)    1.40 Nm Eva Maria, 2.50 Nm Never Alone and 3.25 Nm Laurens = £2 v £117.00

(2)    2.35 Asc Morando, 4.15 Asc Di Fede and 5.20 Red Fairy stories = £2 v £73.94

= £16.00 Staked

Singles bets today:

NB I place my bets on Betfair and get better odds but show best bookies odds as they can easily be checked)

3.35 Red Breton Rock £2 win at 7 Skybet

4.45 Red Olympic Conqueror £2 win at 5.5 Bet365

5.10 Nm Hunni £2 win at 9.0 Bet365

5.15 Font StrikeThe Flint £2 win at 9 Bet365

= £8 staked

Results update:

Multiples: Missed out on an £80 double by a head yesterday. Also Melody Of Scotland ran a shocking race ostensibly because of running too keenly at the beginning of the race.  Hence a loss of £16

Multiples: opening balance £800 less £149 = £651 C/forward

Singles: Two winners yesterday ; wished I’d been brave enough to put them in my doubles.  = £12 + 14 = £4 = £22 profit

 Singles:   opening balance  £400 add £22   = £424 C/forward

Not many possibilities today unless one wants to bet on the French races; let’s hope Enabled goes into the history books.

Having done some work on today’s racing I will place a small £1 Trixie on the following selections.  I was tempted to place a £2 stake but I don’t have a good record wth Trixies so I’ll stay very low key

(1)    2.50 Kel Kaizer, 4.10 Uttox Cracker Jack and 4.55 Kel Nortonthorpelegend = £4 staked £66.63

One singles bets today:

4.10 Uttox Cracker Jack £2 win at 4.0 with skybet

NB I place my bets on Betfair and get better odds but show best bookies odds as they can easily be checked)

Results update:

Multiples: Laurens didn’t fire which was a pity.  Anyway I did manage a double and a treble which paid £42.25 and £73.94 respectively  = £116.19 less £16 = £100.19 on the day

Multiples: opening balance £800 less £149 add £100.19 = £751.19 C/forward

Singles: One winner yesterday = £9 less £6= £3 profit

Singles:   opening balance  £400 add £27   = £427 C/forward

In an effort to achieve more regular winning doubles from today I will make a slight modification to my bets.  When I have six selections for the day I will now increase the number of doubles from 3 to 5.  The sequence will be AB, BC,CD, DE and EF.  I will reduce the stake from £4 to £3 per double. This means that should any first leg selection fail to win then I will cover the next selection in another double.  I will still rank the doubles in order of the horses that I perceive to have the best winning chances.  This is not perfect but I resisted the bookmakers recomnedation of covering all permutations in a “Heinz” bet.  Not least because  it would mean spending £171 per day instead of £15 but also I have never once in my life strung together six winning selections!

With the singles, I have decided that the minimum price that I will accept will now be 4/1.  I usually try to find four selections hence if only one won at 4/1 then I would make a profit of £2 (£8-£6) which is an ROI of 25%.  Should I not find enough selctions at 4/1 I will restrict my bets.  I would love to apply the same price criteria to my doubles selections but, I’m not brave enough to do so just yet.

Results update:

An interesting start for my latest approach.  I was very comfortable to set out my doubles in such a way that I had a chance of winning right through to the final two selections.  I suppose it had to be sod law that it was the last selection that won, albeit the price was smashed.  The other irony was that The Accountant won for me whilst On Board faultered.  Just shows that playing safe doesn’t pay.  The total for the day was £20

Multiples: opening balance £800 less £72.81  £727.19 C/forward

Singles: One winner yesterday at 9.5 therefore £17 less £6 = £11 profit on the day

Singles:   opening balance  £400 add £36   = £436 C/forward

Multiples: Two winning doubles and one treble yesterday.  The doubles paid £48.75 + £39.38 and the treble paid £142.19 = a profit on the day of £230.32 Hence at last I am back in cumulative profit. Hoorah.

Multiples: opening balance £800 less £154.81+£230.32 =  £875.51 C/forward ROI  9.43%

Singles: No winners yesterday hence a £10 loss on the day

Singles:   opening balance  £400 add £21   = £421 C/forward  ROI = 5.25%

Very few races that fit my criteria today so I have opted for a low key £2 win Trixie with 3 win bets:

Trixie:

(A)   3.50 Km Tidal Watch 11/4, 4.05 Sedg Vinnie Lewis 4/1 and 5.0 KM Vendredi Trois 5/1 = £2 Trixie = £8 staked potential return £367.50

Win Bets:

(1)    4.05 Sedg Vinnie Lewis £2 win at 5.5 with Bet365

(2)    4.05 Sedg Chasma £2 win at 9.0 with Bet365 (big drifter but the horse doesn’t know it!)

(3)    5.0 Km Vendredi Trois £2  win at 6.0 Bet365

NB I place my bets on Betfair and usually get better odds but show best bookies odds as they can easily be checked)

I find it very interesting that no one on the forum commented on my decent win on Friday.  Does this mean that because I have infrequent wins that no one looks at my selections?  Betting on horse racing as opposed to other more stable financial investments requires a long term strategy that has to be adhered to in order for it to bear fruit.  I have never encouraged punters to follow my selections and have only advocated that they consider the strategy.  With my multiples, this is fairly straight forward.  Select horses in open races at an ideal price of 3/1+ that have a prominent position in the market and boast a considered reasonable chance of success and combine them in doubles and trebles.  With my single strategy, I propose selections that are expected to run well but have where I can obtain a price of at least 4/1.  I also have a secondary process where I look for outsiders at 10/1+.  Although at first sight, it may seem confusing to assess a horse race and consider one horse at say 3/1, another at 5/1+ and a 3rd at 10/+, in essence, ALL the horses in a race have some chance of winning it. The important point is that one must-have criterion for each horse within the price ranges and have a strategy that can be consistently applied to each one on a regular basis in order to have any chance of making money in the long term.

One winner and four seconds so no doubles yesterday = £20 loss

Multiples: opening balance £800 + £75.51 - £20 =  £855.51 C/forward ROI  6.94%

Singles: No winners yesterday hence an £8 loss on the day

Singles:   opening balance  £400 +£21- 8  = £413 C/forward  ROI = 3.25%

Congratulations on your good win on Friday. As I have stated before I don't see any benefit in betting in doubles / trebles etc. You don't actually state whether these selections have made a profit at level stakes so it is difficult to judge whether it is a successful strategy.

Your single selections are making a profit which is good but it is far too early for me to back these selections. Once a system has had 100 winners and is in profit then I would consider backing the selections, albeit with small stakes.

The only selections on this forum that I take any notice of are Ralphie7's quick system. Showing a profit after 15 years is certainly commendable. Also I think he is a fan of the Smiths so that gets a thumbs up from me.

Many thanks for your well thought out comments.  This reminds me a bit of the great Phil Bull of Timeform fame.  In his younger days he used to receive all kinds of weird and wonderful staking plans showing how to make a profit by increasing stakes after losers occured.  What he used to do was rearrange the sequence of winners and losers to show that in reality it didn't work.  He used to say that if a horse selection method did not work at level stakes then it could never be profitable.

I did some work a couple of months back which showed that mathematically there is very little difference profit wise whether one is backing in singles or doubles; I think that singles just shaded the doubles.  However, I convinced myself that I could tweak the prices a bit and make up the difference. I could only prove this because as an individual I have the ability to "lay" the second horse in the double on Betfair should the first one win so as to even out the singles/doubles differences.

No matter.  My doubles and trebles strategy is essentially a trial.  As you know I like to put up six selections and combine them in five doubles (I must admit that when I get the chance I also combine the second horse in another double should the first leg of a double fail.  This is just me having faith in my selections and trying to eke out a bit more of a chance in winning. These are not posted up on the forum as I never know when I am going to be around to place the bets).  Anyway the point that I am trying to make is that if I combined all the six selections in a full cover bet then I would have to make 57 bets on my six horses.  Obviously, this bet is a bookies gift because so many bets fail when losers begin to occur.  My hope is that by restricting the number of doubles that I get some extra value over and above the full cover scenario when I manage to get a mixture of doubles winning for me.  For me the potential looks very good.  Consider if I manage another good day in the month?  I will streak ahead and my ROI will rocket.

You are quite correct when you say I do not show the effect of backing my multiple selections on a singles basis.  I guess that I feel the bookies have the shorter priced horses sewn up profit wise as they do with selections at 2/1 or shorter .  I  keep meaning to record the effect of backing these singularly and am not sure that I will do so from November 1st.

As you know I will not in general back a horse to win at odds below 4/1, though there is a case to be made for my highest rated horses to be backed at 4.2 as this yields a £6 profit for a £2 outlay.

I don't know about you but I find it very, very difficult to blindly follow anyone else's selections.  The first thing I want to do is take a look at the horse and run through its merits and then consider whether I can get the right price for it if I wish to back it.  All in all I conclude that I may as well work through my own selections because I am not happy with what someone else is telling me.

I'm off to bed now, couldn't sleep with a cough that keeps me awake.

Many thanks once again

No Bets today as no time to report

Results update:

Two winning doubles (one with a non runner) and I should have had a winning treble (with a non runner; stupid me selected the wrong horse Castel Angleo instead of Mabo under my DEF selections on sportsbook)  The first winning double paid £66.00 and the second £12.00 = £78 less £20 = £58.00 profit on the day

Multiples: opening balance £800 + £27..51 + £58 =  £885.51 C/forward ROI  10.68%

Singles: One winner at 5.5 = £9 less £10 = £1 loss on the day

Singles:   opening balance  £400 +11 -1  = £410 C/forward  ROI = 2.50%

I cant speak for everyone but i find this thread very confusing hence I don't follow it, only to check its within the forum rules. Sorry but you did ask.

We have spoken before about the constant change of banks and although you appear to have done an awful lot of research into your betting you still dont really seem to have a clear idea on how you want to back your selections. Every now and again your doubles will fall right and thats ok for you but its the uncertainty that may put people off. You seem to change your rules and strategy at the end of every month, now that can be seen as fine tuning a 'system' or it can be viewed as you just still dont have the full confidence in your own ideas.

Most good systems/strategies are rarely changed and stand the test of time, even through bad spells. They dont change every time they go on a losing run.

Dont get too down hearted about replies on the thread either, ive been on here for 17 years and rarely get a thumbs up even when the Naps and the Tips are going well, thats just people and public forums these days. You get used to it:ok

Keep going and Good luck:hope

Many thanks Graham, My present strategy is rock solid and will not be changed.  The balances won't be changed, apart from profit/loss monthly.  I just sometimes wonder what punters expect from their betting?  My doubles strategy does work and will in time produce a decent profit but it is not a get rich quick scheme.  If punters could only look at their investments at least on a monthly basis then they should be more successful. If they are looking for more wins/bets then they could follow e.g You and Bymatrix whose strike rate this month is above 40%.  Don't know if anyone has ever done any stats on who is the most consistent performer in the Naps competition ( I don't mean winners but most profitable over time with a decent strike rate)?  Who knows what punters seek? I am just seeing through a strategy which I believe will prove profitable.  P&L wise i haven't sunk into oblivion whatever balance has been used.  I have only ever adjusted balances to compensate for risk/reward.  I like to keep within about 2% of total risk per strategy per day.  I don't ever fiddle profit figures.

Just to add; despite the sometimes lack of response at least contributors in this forum seem alive and kicking; don't know why punters on other forums even bother to sign in
