I don't see any logic in an 80/20 split, why not 50/50, 60/40 etc. Many thanks, just thought I would ask. It was something being put forward by a respected race adviser, I guess based upon the idea that the horse(s) are more likely to place. Normally I would rather place two bets to win than back one each way. Incidentally, if one normally has a one point win bet then do you think that when placing and each way bet that this should be half a point each way? Yes, I tend to bet the same total stake whether I back to win or each way. Some would argue that for good bank management you should bet proportional to the odds, so you would have twice as much on a 2/1 shot compared to a 4/1 shot. Some would argue that for good bank management you should bet proportional to the odds, so you would have twice as much on a 2/1 shot compared to a 4/1 shot. I'm trying to stick to £2 stakes for 2/1 to 7/2, (33% -21%); £1 stakes for odds between 4/1 and 9/1 (20% - 10%), 50p stakes for odds between 10/1 and 20/1 (9% - 5%) and 25p for any selection above 25/1 - 100/1 (4% and less). this seems to be working out OK for me lately. I think that it would simply would not work to adjust stakes to the odds on offer. But then again I don't have any statistics to prove it otherwise. BillyHills
Do you have a record of your strike rate? You have been doing this thread for 8 months, continually changing your strategy as you go along and its not really working out is it? I just wondered if you have stuck to the same selection method or have you changed that too? I think you need to just concentrate on one type of bet and stick to it, less selections with more on so when you do win you make it worthwhile rather than just reducing the losses for the day. £1 win on loads of horses is not what this thread started out as is it? Not being negative, just that i pop in here now and again and see the bank slowly dwindling away.

Not being negative, just that i pop in here now and again and see the bank slowly dwindling away. Hi Graham, I don't keep a record of my strike rate. I feel that if one bets over a range of odds as I do then a strike rate would be more appropriate within a range of bets e.g. 2/1 - 7/2 = 33% - 21% probability and 4/1 - 9/1 = 20% - 10%, 10/1 - 20/1 9% - 5% and 25/1 plus = 4% and less. My selection method has not changed much. I select competitive races and choose from fancied runners with decent market support at the time of making my selection(s) The main idea behind my thread was to focus on multiple bets. I then progressed to also including singles bets as people were wondering how my selections performed in singles. However, the prices are quite often too short for me to confidently back the selections in singles. Instead I do like to find better priced selections for my singles bets, quite often as insurance against my main selections failing. I may include more of my multiple selections as win bets in the future. My multiple bets have gone into profit at least twice over the eight months period. The idea was that once they got into profit then accumulated profits would steadily rise. That hasn't happened. I must admit that I did not expect to endure such a long losing sequence over the winter period. I am convinced that it has been the result of making selections in lower class races. I have now amended my own criteria so as to exclude any class 6 and 7 races from my multiple bets in the future. I am more confident that my singles balance will recover and go past the original £400 that I set in October. I have always said that this is a trial (I can't get myself to paper trade; I hate it.) My current multiples balance is just over £500 from an initial start of £800. It is unexpected long losing sequences that make the bookies rub their hands with glee. They know that punters just give up and throw in the towel and then move on to something else. It is because I am disciplined and have some idea about how losing sequences work that I know it is best to stick with what I am doing as I feel that my fortunes will change for the better. If they don't and I lose my original bank of £800, well, then I will concede defeat and change course. And, even if that happens then all is not lost because I will still have at least four times that sum at my disposal for other horse racing betting projects. I hope that this explains a bit more about my thread and its objectives

The Equaliser
No postings today. I have some serious backlog of home paperwork to catch up with. I will endeavour to do this by doing my multiples every other day until I get up to date. Daily results update: Multiples: Two winners but in the wrong multiples so an £8.00 Loss £800 original bank. B/Fwd £505.04 less £8.00 = £497.04 C/Fwd Singles: Two winners, one at 7/2 & another at 4/1 with a rule 4 deduction = Outlay £9 add £9 + £4.20 = £4.20 profit Original bank £400.00 B/Fwd £360.03 Add £4.20 = £364.23 C/Fwd “When placing a bet on a selection, never take SP and, always bear in mind that to make a profit, in the long run, the WINNERS have to pay for the LOSERS.” Always remember that if every favourite won the bookies would go out of business so don’t be afraid to oppose them. The Equaliser
After my good win yesterday I rather feel that the Cheltenham festival is not a place for multiple bets so I’ll just pick some outsiders for small win bets today. Even if none of them win I can sit back and enjoy watching the races on TV. Singles: 1.30 Chelt Captain Guiness 50 p win at 14/1 2.10 Chelt Rouge Vif 50p win at 12/1 2.50 Chelt Kildisart 50p win at 10/1 3.30 Chelt Darver Star 50p win at 12/1 4.50 Chelt Trainwreck 50p at 14/1 5.30 Chelt Lord Du Mesnil £1 win at 11/2 4.40 Nc Urban Spirit 50p win at 14/1 Total singles = £4.00 Daily results update: Multiples: Well the wait has been long but finally a Trixie comes my way to help with my ailing balance. The amount paid was £155.06 per forecast. Less stake of £4.00 = £151.06 on the day. Betfair wanted to give me £41 for a cash out after two winners when I already had £21 in the pot. Luckily I ignored them. I never thought I would have to wait this long for a correction to my balance. I will press on until I at least get back to £800.00 and then may have to think again £800 original bank. B/Fwd £483.04 Add £151.06 = £634.10 C/Fwd Singles: £7.50 outlay and three winners as per my Trixie, the return is somewhat less. Three winners paid £5.50. £3.75 + £4.50 = £13.75 less £7.50 = £6.25 on the day Original bank £400.00 B/Fwd £354.23 Add £6.25 = £360.48 C/Fwd “When placing a bet on a selection, never take SP and, always bear in mind that to make a profit, in the long run, the WINNERS have to pay for the LOSERS.” Always remember that if every favourite won the bookies would go out of business so don’t be afraid to oppose them.
