Braga vs Rio Ave
It's been a couple of weeks since we covered the Portuguese Primeira Liga due to the international break and then cup action. Our return to the league action covers the 6:45pm GMT clash on Monday night between mid-table rivals Braga and Rio Ave at Estadio Municipal de Braga. The home side will be keen to win this game and move back amongst the leading sides in the division.
Braga haven't had the best of starts to the season considering their pre-season expectations. Head coach Ricardo Sa Pinto will be disappointed that his team are only 9th in the table and 5 points off the European qualification spots given they finished 4th last season. A less than impressive home record with just 2 wins from their 5 home league games hasn't helped so that's something they'll be looking to change here especially off the back of an unbeaten run of 5 games in all competitions.
Rio Ave will be pleased that they're coming into this game in 8th place and ahead of their opponents. Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal is the man at the helm in Vila do Conde and the club is meeting expectations for the season so far. A mixed bag of results on the road means I'm doubting their ability to get the win here. Back-to-back 1-0 wins shows they're performing well defensively and it's now just 1 loss in their last 7 matches in all competitions.
This is not an easy game for Braga. They might be entering a period of decent form themselves but they are up against a Rio Ave side that are also playing well right now. I was tempted to go for a draw but I am going to back a Braga side that I was impressed with against Wolves in midweek. I think they're going to start putting some results together now and get back amongst the front runners.

Congratulations to Mark and his team Sick Sick Six who bought my run of victories to a grinding halt. I don't know who is most disappointed today me or the Man City manager.
As the youngsters would say "your team was sick." (For those of you without kids this means his team was "very good").
A great captain choice in Mane 24 points.
At least I have the international break to beef up my team before I take on Graham and his FCB getoutofourclub (currently third in the league).

FCSB v Guimaraes
FCSB had a difficult start to the season having troubles with the players fitness. With several of their first key players being injured during the start of the season - D. Man, H. Gnohere, M. Pintilii, M. Momcilovic, D. Nedelcu, O. Moruțan, M. Roman or I. Hora - they look very fragile when it comes to outline a strong first eleven. Their domestic results tell the tale of how thin is their squad in this period, having played with young and unexperienced players just to be able to rest the ones that where still fit so they could be ready for the UEL matches.
Even with Gnohere and Pintilii looking to return for this game, it is still not enough to get passed Vitoria SC. The Portuguese side look to continue their strong form shown in the last season, with a strong defensive stand at the back, and having most of their players fit to engage in this important game to the start of the season. Even if they played most of their games this season against much lesser sides than FCSB, at this stage and with the internal problems lurking in their club, the Romanian side doesn’t seem to have attacking potential to get pass Vitoria Guimaraes at this moment.
For this game I purpose the following with unibet:
X2 & over 1.5 @ 1.94
X @ 3.1

Xcout reacted to Sir Puntalot in Championship Predictions > Aug 2nd - 5th
Definitely for Boro, wide open and very slack at the back. Luton may be of the mindset that they may as well go out and play attacking football as they're going to struggle otherwise.
The Championship in general is going to be a goal fest this season I think.

Luton 3-3 Middlesbourgh
More over 2.5 goals games in the future for Middlesbrough? or for Luton? Which one is your take?
