We're getting 2020 off to a bang with the return of the PL Poker Championships and Meet Up. :cheers

The venue is again the fabulous Genting Casino and Poker Room at Resorts World Birmingham, who looked after us so well last time.

Date is Saturday 1st February 2020.

The plan is to hold a Pot Limit Omaha tournament at 2pm and the No Limit Holdem Main Event from 7pm, with a break in between so you can get some food.  Buy-ins and added registration fee are detailed below.

PL will be adding £500 to be split between the 2 tourneys. Split £150 Added for PLO and £350 Added for NLH. Trophies for top 2 in each event also.

  • 2 weeks later...

With the Genting hotel (which I was impressed with last time) seemingly already fully booked and before noticing Ian's post, I've booked into a b&b 1 train stop/short taxi/3 miles down the road.

Reviews/pics seem good although of course the room will be basic.

They do have a 2nd room if anyone is looking for a cheap option, £50 single occupancy of double room with breakfast, parking on the road. I've checked & they're happy for me to roll in merrily at 2am/3am although I've of course promised to be as quiet as I can be. It is however a PL do, so might just turn up for breakfast! ?

Message me for details.

Other hotel options locally still available from around £92 to £163 from the usual hotel comparison sites.

I am getting vibes that the APAT Team Event may well be happening on the same weekend as as the PL Poker Championships. I want to stress that this is not 'confirmed' but I would exercise caution when booking hotels without a cancellation clause until such time as an announcement is made.

I really can't see how they could organise it so quickly. We are usually asked to submit team applications in October for a January date, and even when it was March teams were submitted in November. I'm not worried (much! ?)

It was mentioned in hushed whispers at the APAT Counties Championships at Resorts World last weekend (not by an APAT Official though), and has been reiterated since by a trusted APATer. The longer it takes for them to make an announcement, the more likely it is that they will not be able to organise VCG in time for the end of January.

It wouldn't do any harm to put some feelers out on Sunday though Wayne :ok

I've just received a message from Wayne to the effect that his sources state that the APAT TE is definitely not at VGC and the date for it is still undecided, so there's no clash with the PL weekend. Phew !

Full steam ahead for Resorts World then   :ok  :As::Ah::Ac::Ad:

Just to clarify the date is not set yet, so could possibly still be on the 1st of feb but with it just 6weeks away I would doubt it will be, but defo not VGC

I've booked Travelodge and hope to make both tournaments, I was unable to recover my old account (Dave488), so had to set new one up, will be good to meet up with some old friends as been a while.

@Dave488 - Hi Dave, it's been a while. ;)  I've merged your new account with old one, so you're back on original account with new email address. :ok

I suspect quite a few of you will have received the same FB Message from Tom Brady as I did last night, full message here :

UK Team event agreed for 1st/2nd Feb (Superbowl weekend) subject to final confirmation of finer details with venue (Midlands ish) which I hope will be Wed evening - will be a v quick turnaround of team entries on a first come basis from Thurs, subject to final confirmation when all individual team members have bought in online (online holding tank will close early Jan)

My two penneth.

If anyone would be out of pocket due to hotel cancellations, we should stick with the original date and forego our place in the APAT comp.

Poor planning from APAT. Anyway, we haven't had a Punters Lounge Poker Championships for a while and they are always more fun than any other tourney. ;)

These were my thoughts precisely when I read Tom's message. There's every chance that there may be a restriction on the number of teams, and with it being rushed, registration and buying-in could end up being a bun fight. I have the cancellation clause for the Travelodge anyway but if there are enough willing souls I'd much rather stick to Plan A and do the PL tourney :ok
