  1. Yep. That first set of the Zverev-Fokina match was really bad. Zverev has not been challenged at all during this tournament. He only has faced weak players and players who were not in the best physical conditions. One of the best backhands on tour but if he starts to struggle with his forehand and his second serves as we have seen many times on him there will be no match. Tsitsipas has destroyed Isner, Carreno and his worst nightmare, Medvedev. Tsitsipas is the first ranked player in the Race, the player with more wins on clay this year and he dominates the h2h (5-2). I know Tsitsipas is in a great level in this tournament and I base that on the players he has beat and the way he has beat them but I'm not quite sure in which point is Zverev here. We'll see.

    Big day tomorrow ?

Tsisipas & Djokovic both win ?

Mate, I could be wrong but I can't imagine Djokovic beating Nadal. The only thing I'm not sure about is how much he will challenge Nadal. The way Nadal beat Djokovic the last year was too severe and not too many things have changed since that match. The only difference is that this time both players will play in the same conditions. The last year Nadal had an easy draw and he reached the final without dropping a single set while Djokovic had to play a 5 set match (3:58 h) against Tsitsipas just before playing the Final. I would love to see an epic 5 set match but I think Nadal will win 3-0 or 3-1. The only player that I really think that can beat Nadal is Tsitsipas. We'll see...

Stricker to beat Hurkacz at 2.6 with Pinnacle

Hurkacz has done absolutely nothing since he won in Miami. He has lost the last 4 matches he has played. He retired from Rome due to some kind of physical problems and then he lost in a 5 set match against Van De Zandschulp. I did not watch that match but he won the first 2 sets in 2 TBs and then he lost easily the next 3 sets so it seems he was not in the best conditions to deal with that match. I don't know how Stricker plays on grass but he definitely has the skills to do well on this surface. He has already played one match here. He beat Albot in 2 sets (7-6, 7-6) and Albot played the qualification (O'Connell and Ruusuvuori). Stricker beat Cilic and Fucsovics in Geneva 1 month ago so I think he can also upset the pole. Stricker is unexperienced at this level so I take this one at low stakes.

Well, Stricker beats Hurkacz in 2 TBs! As I expected his game suits perfectly on grass. I'm amazed with how Stricker played the crucial points... He even finished the match with style, with an ace!

  4. Tsitsipas (-1,5 Sets) to beat Alexander Zverev at 1.83 with betfair

Zverev has been the luckiest guy of the whole tournament. He was in the same quarter than Thiem and Ruud but he hasn't faced any of them. Besides, in his last match he played against a player that was out of steam. Fokina played two 5 set matches (Van De Zandschulp and Ruud) and a 4 set match (Delbonis) before playing against Zverev. He said that he was physically broken after his match against Delbonis. He said he couldn't even put his socks on and he also said he had severe back pain. Obviously, these were not the best conditions to play against Zverev and that's why he was severely defeat by the german. IMO, Tsitsipas' way to the final (Chardy, P.Martinez, Isner, Carreno and Medvedev) has been tougher than the german's way (Otte, Safiulin, Djere, Nishikori and Fokina). Zverev is 14-3 on clay this year. He won in Madrid, where the conditions are better for him, but the greek is better player on this surface. He's 21-3 on clay this year and he has only lost against Nadal, Ruud and Djokovic. He has won 2 titles (Montecarlo and Lyon) and he reached the Final in Barcelona. Tsitsipas has a clear dominance over Zverev (5-2) and he showed an incredible mental strength at beating Medvedev (3-0), a player who always has dominated him (6-1 before this match was played). IMO, if he plays a decent match he should beat Zverev.

So you're going big on Sakkari @delfino?

I don't think he does... All female players remaining can win. In fact, he said on a previous post that anybody can win anybody so it seems he's trolling us a little bit. Besides, Krejcikova beat Sakkari in Dubai in 2 sets just 3 months ago. And I have seen they also played in 2014 on clay and Krecikova also won that one in 2 sets. Sakkari is the favorite, for sure, but nobody will be shocked if Krejcikova wins this one. She has beat Sakkari before and she's on 10 winning streak.

Are you trolling us @delfino ? or you really have bet the mortgage on Sakkari??

Tsitsipas vs Medvedev - Both players will win 1 set at 1.67 with William Hill

I have Tsitsipas to win the 4th quarter but when I placed that bet I wasn't expecting Medvedev to play as he has done till now. He had an easy draw but he passed his first real test (Garin) successfully (3-0). The way he ended the third set was just impressive. Tsitsipas is still the favorite one to win this match but Medvedev has impressed me. I expect both players to win at least one set. This same bet is priced at 1.45 at betfair so this one is value.

Medvedev had a couple of SPs in the second set but he played them really bad, too conservative... This bet was there... That been said, Tsitsipas has proved that the difference between them on clay is big. The only way Medvedev had to win this match was playing super aggressive but it's impossible to maintain that level in a 5 set match. He was superior in the second half of the second set but then he was outclassed in the TB. Then he broke Tsitsipas in the third set but I can't say he was close to win that one cause Tsitsipas broke him back to nil just in the next game. Too much hype on Medvedev and I have to say sorry for falling on that.

At least the bet on Tsitsipas to win the 4th quarter is won. 8-4 overall, not bad.

so kenin is a strong opponent is it?? can't say the same about mertens but mertens has struggled the whole year. the game she blew against muchova in australian..being 5-0 up in 1st set to lost 7-5 can't call her a contender if a top 20 person blows a game like this

Mertens is 22-8 this year. She played 2 finals and she won the first WTA event of the year. SFs in Dubai and QFs in Madrid. Mertens is always a candidate to reach the last rounds of every single GS. The only reason why she's out is cause she faced Sakkari in the third round. I haven't seen all the matches but that match (Mertens-Sakkari) has been the most high quality match I have seen so far in the women's draw this edition. You can't say that she's not a real candidate only cause she lost 1 match. In the AO Barty won the first against Muchova 6-1 and she was leading the second one 2-0 but she finally lost that match (6-1, 3-6, 2-6). I guess that means Barty is not a real candidate to win any other tournament this year, right? Well, she has won 2 tournaments (Stuttgart and Miami) and reached the final in Madrid after that defeat... Nadal lost against Tsitsipas 3-2 in the AO when she was leading the match 2-0. That means Nadal is not a candidate anymore? I don't think so, cause he has won 2 titles (Barcelona and Rome) since that defeat. Kenin' year is awful. I said in a previous post that she's miles away from her best form. I said that she was playing with no confidence and I also said the she knew she wouldn't reach the finals round here. That been said, she's still the world number 5 and the current finalist here. I repeat, comparing Sakkari's draw with Badosa/Gauff's draw is a bad joke.

The only decent player Sakkari has come past so far is Elise Mertens. Kenin was utterly woeful. Yes this is a huge opportunity for her - as in, she may not come up against a weaker field than this deep in a grand slam, but I just can't envision her coming past Swiatek. If she does, somehow, then maybe it could be her year. Great potential for sure.

As I said pre-tournament, my dark horse is Paula Badosa. I think she has the game to defeat Iga on her day, and her route to the final seems very possible. you only need to watch her 2-0 win vs. Barty in Charleston to see how good she can be.

Pavs also very impressive to come from a set down to defeat Vika and Sabalenka - although Sabalenka did kind of defeat herself a bit. Her match vs. Rybakina will be a fun one.

It's an irony, I guess. Mertens in the 3rd round, Kenin in the 4th round and Swiatek in the QFs and you are saying that you can't imagine her having a weaker draw than this? Badosa is the 27th seed and she has faced Davis (1R), Kovinic (2R), Bogdan (3R), Vondrousova (4R) and Zidansek (QFs). To be fair, I can't imagine a weaker draw than this for a 27th seed. Gauff has faced Krunic (1R), Wang (2R), an injured Brady (3R), Jabeur (4R) and now he she will face Krejcikova (QFs). Sakkari's draw is so much harder than any of these 2 players.

  10. Berrettini (-9.0 Games) to beat Kwon at 2.62 with Pinnacle

Last pick from me for this FO. Nothing much to say. Kwon is a pure hard court player. He has a negative record on clay 9-12. The only reason why he's still here is cause he has played against Kevin Anderson and Seppi. Kevin had to retire in his last match before the FO due to physical issues and Seppi was out of gas after his tough match against FAA. Berrettini beat Taro in 4 sets (6-0, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and then he beat Coria in 3 sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-2). Djokovic almost covered this line in only 2 sets in Belgrade (6-1, 6-3), as well as Carreno, in Marbella (6-4, 6-0). The difference between them is huge and I like how Berrettini is playing so I think he can cover this line.

  11. Pegula to beat Kenin at 2.00 with bet365

Well, I'm happy with her 2 wins here against Ostapenko (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Baptiste (7-5, 6-3) but now I think Pegula is gonna beat her. Kenin came here with no victories on clay (0-3). She lost against Davis, Kontaveit and Krejcikova, the last 2 in straight sets. She's far from her best form and today she has suffered a lot against Baptiste in the first set. Pegula has beat Zhu (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and Martincova (6-3, 6-3). She's 6-3 on clay this year and she has beat some big players as Cirstea, Kasatkina, Osaka and Alexandrova, all of them in straight sets. Her 2021 is just impressive (23-9). QFs in the AO, SFs in Doha and QFs in Dubai. Today I was expecting a better match from Kenin cause she was playing against a 19 years old player with no big wins on the tour but, as I said, she has suffered too much and I have seen her too nervous. Wathcing her today I also had the feeling that she doesn't trust in herself too much so, at these odds, I take Pegula with no doubts.

  12. Berrettini (3-0) to beat Coria + Nadal (3-0) to beat Gasquet at 1.77 with bet365

Berrettini dropped a set against Taro but I saw the beginning of the match and the difference between them was huge. Taro only had 1 break opportunity in 4 sets. Coria was lucky to face Feli but now he's run here is over and I expect this to be a straight sets win for Berrettini.

Nadal beating 3-0 Gasquet shouldn't be a problem.

Any thought on Schwartzman / Bedene match.? + 5.5 games seems a bit to much given their current form.

Be careful with this one cause both players are in a bad form. When 2 players are in a bad form anything can happen. Personally, I will stay away from this match.

  14. McDonald vs. Garin - Both players will win 1 set at 1.85 with William Hill

I add this one for today cause I think Garin has a tricky game here. Garin is 11-6 on clay this year. He comes from a tough match against Londero (3-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-2), a player who is in a very bad form this year (2-13). Despite that, Londero could have won that TB (8-6) in the third set and then who knows what would have happened. McDonald is 12-4 on clay this year. He played the qualification and he won all his matches there easily in straight sets (Kokkinakis, Olivo and Trungelliti). He had a tough 1R match against Ruusuvuori (4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3). Garin is not playing his best tennis and McDonald is having his best season ever on clay so I think Garin shouldn't be with these odds.
The over 3.5 Sets is priced at 1.60 on most bookies. I also have found this bet on betfair but it's priced at 1.60 which IMO should be the right odds, not 1.85.

  15. Opelka to beat Munar at 1.80 with bet365

Opelka impressed all us with his run in Rome. He beat Gasquet, Musetti, Karatsev and Delbonis, all of them in straight sets. After that he lost against Cuevas in Geneva. Probably he was not interested on that small event after reaching the SFs in Rome. In his first match here he has destroyed Andrej Martin (6-3, 6-2, 6-4). Munar has played a lot of matches on clay this year (29-11) but only a few of them were against big players. He has suffered a lot against Thompson (6-7, 6-1, 7-6, 6-4) despite being a huge favorite (1.10). Probably we'll see some TBs here but I take Opelka anyways.

  16. Well, both Lepchenko (-2.5 Games) and Sakkari have won so I close this 1R matches with a 4-1.
Anyone can tell me why Kenin is at 1.40 against Baptiste? Did I miss something? I saw a little bit of the Kenin-Ostapenko match and she played well considering where she comes from.

Badosa (vs. Davis) + Sakkari (vs. Zavatska) + Mertens (vs. Sanders) + Fucsovics (vs. Simon) + Sinner (vs. Herbert) + Nishioka (vs. Tsonga) at 2.32 with bet365

Badosa is 13-2 on clay this year and she has beat big players as Bencic, Barty, Krejcikova, Teichmann or Sevastova. Davis is 3-3 and she has lost her last 2 matches (vs. Kovinic and Alexandrova). Both Sakkari and Mertens play against players who never have been inside the top 100 so I can't imagine them losing. Fucsovics is only 2-4 on clay this year but he plays against a player who is not competitive anymore. Simon is 1-5 on clay this year and he's on a 5 losing streak (Sonego, Andujar, Herbert, Bedene and P.Martinez). Tsonga is 0-2 on clay this year. He has lost against Gerasimov (7-5, 6-1) and Paul (6-3, 6-3). He is miles away from his best form. Maybe he can compete during a couple sets but I can't imagine him winning a 5 set match right now. Nishioka's best surface is hard but he has competed really well on clay this year (7-6). He has beat Cuevas, Krajinovic, Humbert, Monfils and Musetti so a fatty Tsonga should not be a problem. Sinner is 7-5 on clay this year and he has beat some really good players as RBA, Rublev and Karatsev. Herbert is 4-5 on clay this year. This is not his best surface and he's not in his best form so I can't see him winning against Sinner.

If somebody followed this one now can bet on Zavatska to secure profits. You can find her at 7.00-8.00. In theory this was one of the "safer" selections but you never know. It would be a massive shock if Sakkari loses against Zavatska but I have seen stranger things..

  18. 2 hours ago, CzechPunter said:

Looking at today's results so far, I find it really hard to get a grip on the situation. Johson/Tiafoe is pure madness, Norrie is out of touch as well, Sinner, etc. At the same time, not sure what angle you'd have to take to back Johnson or Herbert.

yeah.. it's been strange. Sinner has played a perfect 1st set and then... well, probably the worst match I have seen on him this year. Herbert is all serve and volley but he has won a lot of rallies from the baseline... it's madness. Sinner was shaking.

What is happening with Thiem? Did he forget how to play tennis? Did he stop the harsh training? Did he fix it? For me, everything is open, because Andjuar is NOT a player by any means to lead 2-0 and finally lose 2-3.

    Very very suspicious match

IMO Thiem has other priorities at this time of his life. She has a new girlfriend since the end of 2020, probably she's taking a lot of energy off him. He said that since he won the USO 2020 he has not the same motivation and he also said that he has to find himself or something like that. He always has been in a very good physical condition but I have seen him out of form. I would even say he's flabby in comparison with how he was 1 year ago... He doesn't hit the ball with same strength. He has to focus on tennis, workout and play more matches and then he will be the same player he was.
