Well, Ok but for a minute there I thought that you were suggesting that if a price on a horse shortens then it was a value bet and now isn't but if it lengthens then it is not worth backing

To be fair, I am probably suggesting that in the case of tipsters selections. For the good tipsters the price will generally shorten until the value disappears.

@Hotspur88's tips have been very impressive and they may well still be value at shorter odds or BSP.

You can't have it both ways Michael; you either have faith that a better price enhances your value bet or you decide that the selection is no longer value and try to negate the loss by getting out at break even in-running.  I prefer to hold on to the faith that the wheels haven't come the horse and that it is still the same horse and should run its race.  Market moves are not always the right ones

I don't take any notice of the market moves, I back my selections well in advance of the race.

My point is (based on many years experience) that with these tipping services the only way you can profit is if you get on early.

Not so sure that anybody can find lots of winners even if selecting odds on favourites.

If you select odds on favourites you will find 50% winners.

Sure, the selections today shortened up, so what.

They were probably value at the early odds, probably not at the shorter odds, this is crucial to making a profit.

Not so sure you should knock the betting exchanges either.

I am not knocking the exchanges, the majority of my bets are on the exchanges. They are the best thing to happen to racing since the end of the betting tax.

However with these sorts of tips you need to get in early, you are unlikely to make a profit on the exchanges if you miss the early prices.

Besides, anyone can put in a bet on the betting exchanges requesting odds just above the odds that you obtained (to allow for commission).  It may get matched or it may not.  No big deal if it doesn't, one just concludes that this was not a value bet at shorter odds even if it wins.  I really can't see what all the fuss is about

The fuss is because making a profit is all about value. Anybody can find lots of winners but finding value is much more difficult.

A long time ago I subscribed to a very profitable paid tipster but I didn't make a profit because the price had invariably shortened by the time I put the bet on. Betting on the exchanges doesn't really help in this instance because the odds here will also have shortened.

  5. I don't doubt that you get these prices so there is no need to post the bet slips as evidence, I do believe you.

The problem is that if people follow you on here then they will not be able to obtain the prices that you quote and therefore not achieve the gains that you make. This is the problem with the few good tipping services out there, it is very difficult to get on at the quoted prices.

I think most contributors to the forum quote the prices available when they post.

  6. It is very difficult (but not impossible) to make money from betting, even more so you when you have to pay a tipster.

You were very bullish about your win tips but they have not stood the test of time, I suspect your place tips may well follow the same path.

It is also difficult to make money in the place market because of the low level of liquidity, if several people put on large bets on the same horse the price would dop considerably and any edge will quickly disappear.

I would advise anybody to think very carfeully before paying for these tips.
