EventMalisse v Tursunov
SelectionMalisse
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/Price>Betfair @ 2.58 (Back)
ReasoningMalisse has beaten Tursunov in both previous clashes, including a US Open encounter. Tursunov is in good form with his recent Sydney win but I feel Malisse will like the surface and can maintain his unbeaten record against Tursunov.

Value will be with Garcia-Lopez, but if at his peak, Falla would win through nicely here.

Kolhy has won their previous two encounters, and is more at home in these conditions/surface, so with his confidence beaming high I expect him to overcome the Russian in a battle that will consistent of lots of baseline winners.

Guillermo Garcia Lopez v Alejandro Falla
SelectionGuillermo Garcia Lopez
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/PriceBlue Square @ 1.83 (Back)
ReasoningGuillermo Garcia Lopez was really impressive in his match vs Chela and even though Chela has been in really bad form lately I was suprised how comfortable he managed to beat him. Alejandro Falla on the other side had major problems takin out Kevin Andersen so Garcia-Lopez should have the advantage in this match considering recent form.
Stefan Koubek v Agustin Calleri
SelectionAgustin Calleri
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.80 (Back)
ReasoningExcellent job by Koubek to send old man Moya home but it was more Moyas poor display that settlet the match since Koubek didnt serve to well. Calleri is seeking revenge for the loss in Sopot last year when he has up 6-0, 4-0 but somehow blew the match. Calleri is a big clown but when he's on he can blast Koubek off the court without any troubles.

Re: Australian Open, Men

Jones @ 1.61 Betfair. Jones should take this one comfortably. Jones finished last year well and has done OK this year qualifying for both events he's entered but lost first round both times. Montanes is shocking on hardcourts and with home support Jones should get his first Aussie win. I think the battle with Nadal at the US last year will help Jones in this one. Cilic @ 2.00 Will Hill. Stonking price here. Cilic is the far superior hard court player and I can't believe he's 50/50 here. Cilic has started the year well and his losses were against in form players Youzhny and Kohlscheiber. Cilic is 10-7 last 12 months on hard courts compared to Almagros 8-8. Both have a poor record over 5 sets but Almagro has had many more chances and I expect Cilic's record to improve this year. Almagro has a lot of potential on hardcourts, but he doesn't show it often enough to justify being fav here - actually Betfair market has Cilic fav with most bookies Almagro fav which I like. Safin @ 1.51 Betfair. I can't help it, I'm a massive Safin win and I bet on him far too much. He looked much better in Kooyong last week than he did all of last year and I just hope he can bring some decent form. I think Gulbis is often over rated as he just hasn't had many wins on the tour yet. Rochus @ 1.91 Betfair. Really like Rochus in this one. He has a great game to take down Querrey who let's be honest is a bit of a mug. Rochus had big struggles last year but he's looked in better nick this year, even though the results have not been great. Querrey continues to lose matches he should win easily and so long as he keeps doing so he is easily opposable. He needs to have a great serving day otherwise Rochus will eat him from the baseline. Also quite like Gremelmayr and Guccione as solid favs. Best bet of night probably Cilic:ok
Nice one Mr. I!! I followed on all these bar Guccione, and made a nice profit, thanks and great tipping! Unlucky with Rochus too! I look forward to reading more of your tips. :ok

EventGilles Simon v Rainer Schuettler
SelectionRainer Schuettler
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 2.26 (Back)
ReasoningGilles Simon had some big troubles taking out Bobby Reynold in five sets and didnt look in too good shape and will surely be tested by Rainer Schuettler. Neither has a too good serve but both have excellent returns and loves long baseline duells so there wont be much beween these two tonight therefor I choose to bet on the one with the better odds.
EventLindsay Davenport v Maria Sharapova
SelectionMaria Sharapova
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.40 (Back)
ReasoningLindsay Davenport been doing good at the smaller tournament but now its time for Grand Slam tennis. She had big troubles in her opening round and had to break her opponent twice in the desicive set to get the win. Sharapova is probably hungry to start the year well and shouldnt have too much troubles vs Davenport since her opponent doesnt have the returning skills to threaten her.
EventElena Vesnina v Jill Craybas
SelectionJill Craybas
Strength10/10
Date15/01/2008
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 2.64 (Back)
ReasoningVesnina has become a too big favorite for this match thanx to her powerfull serve and play, but lets not forget that Craybas has excellent returns and if Vesnina isnt 100% concentrated she will return her way to the win.

Re: Australian Open, Men Garcia Lopez @ 1.72 Stan James. Agree with what the other fellas are saying. He ended last year well winning a challenger in Tunis, started this year reaching quarters of Chennai (loss to Nadal) and got a cracking win over Chela in the first round. He's a confidence player and when he gets on a roll he's very impressive. He's gone out in the second round here the past few years but had some pretty tough draws and I think he'll go one better this year. Falla had a really tough battle with Anderson in the first round that looks like a poor performance, but more importantly he's not the fittest guy on tour (I nearly said he's as fat as Nalbandian:lol;)) and I think he could struggle to recover. He's a lefty but I don't like his service action and it often gets him into problems. Garcia can be very aggressive on second serves and I like this match up for him. Sela @ 3.75 Coral. Definately worth a pop at this price. Karlovic has started the year pretty unconvincingly, losing to C Rochus in Doha and losing his service twice against Jamie Baker which was pretty unexpected. He's also got a poor record over 5 sets and is 2-4 in the main draw here. There are concerns over his stamina and the heat certainly won't help. There's quite a bit of hype around Sela, I'm not sure he's 'all that', but he's decent, and has good memories of taking Safin to 5 sets last year and he's improved quite a bit since then. Definately has a chance if he can stay mentally strong and not be bothered about Karlovics aces. Schuettler @ 2.36 Betfair. Agreeing with Donald again. Just can't make a case for Simon being fav:unsure. I think Schuettler has started the year pretty well (after ending last year well), and got a nice win against Clement in the first round. Simon had a big battle with reynolds in the first round which is quite poor and he's 7-10 in 5 set matches (best run 3rd round Aussie 06) so I don't really fancy him coming off a 5 set match. Andreev @ 1.64 Betfair. Just like him in this match up really. He started the year awfully in Doha but seems to be improving match-by-match. Served very well in the first round and if he continues that he'll be very tough to beat. Vliegen took care of Patience easily but he's been struggling for wins for a while (apart from a Challenger at home in Belgium he hasn't won consecutive matches since the French last year!) and I still think he'll be short on confidence.

Re: Australian Open, Men

EventMarin Cilic v Jürgen Melzer
SelectionJürgen Melzer
Strength10/10
Date16/01/2008
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 2.32 (Back)
ReasoningJürgen Melzer is known for one thing, making a great 1st round in a Grand Slam and then getting trashed in 2nd round but it all has to change someday and hopefully its tonight. Cilic has been in great form but he has had troubles in the past vs player types as Melzer with a solid return and lefties, so Melzer should take this if he only can keep his nerves cool.
EventSebastian Grosjean v Robin Haase
SelectionRobin Haase
Strength10/10
Date16/01/2008
Bookmaker/PriceExpekt @ 2.30 (Back)
ReasoningRobin Haase has been really impressive this year and only lost one match so far and managed to totally dominate Ljubicic in R1. Grosjean aint what he used to and is much more passive nowadays and I wonder how good he's gonna be able to stand the heat over 5 sets. The value is in Haase for me.

Re: Australian Open, Men Ferrero v Jones UNDER 32.5 games @ 1.83 Bet365. Ferrero was exceptional in his first match against Kiefer and looks to have started the year very sharp after his final appearance in Auckland. His movement looked great and he was getting a lot of penetration on the groudies. Jones got a nice win against Montanes but this is several levels up. I see Ferrero taking this very easily, could be a battering and the under looks decent. Verdasco v Tipsarevic OVER 35.5 games @ 1.8 Bet365. This is a reasonable number for a match that could go long, the fact it could even go over in 3 sets is a big bonus. Tipsarevic is a bit of an enigma to me, he's a lot better player than his ranking which tends to be around 50-80 for the past year. He gets a lot of little injuries and retirements from matches which is strange but his game is very very good. He tends to have a lot of long matches and has beeen involved in 6 five setters in the past year (and a couple of days;)). I see getting at least a set off Verdasco, and could win the match. Verdasco is a another player I struggle to get a read on, but he looks to be improving, and his slam record is improving in the past 12 months. I just see this match going at least to 4 sets, and should easily go over this number. More to come later....

Re: Australian Open, Men CILIC @ 1.66 Blue Sq. Easy for me to support Cilic neat after he did a nice job in the 1st round. He still looks in good form and seems to be more solid off the ground than the times I saw him last year. He's got the better serve and is the better all round player. Melzer had a shocking year last year after a run to the final in Vegas in February, and he had a staight sets win in the first round but not convinced he's found anything. He hasn't been past the 2nd round of a slam since Wimbledon 05 (lost to Coria in R3:lol) and I can't see that changing. GREMELMAYR @ 3.25 Bet365. This looks a juicy price, espeically if Spadea has a gig to get to:ok. Spadea was very lucky in the first round here as he was getting battered by Stepanek before he got injured. Grem came through qualies and got a reasonable 4 set win against Roitman in the first round and has a decent chance. HAASE @ 2.3 expekt. Grosjean has got a few wins this year but I still think he's on the slide. Beat Volandri in straight sets in the first round but that included a couple of breakers and a match like that should have been much easier. Haase is on the verge of making a massive breakthrough and has started this year well with stand out wins against Baghdatis and Ljubicic in the first round. He came through qualifying as well and has the groudies to match Grosjean and the Frenchman will make a lot of errors. 50/50 match for me. SAFIN @ 2.48 Betfair. Already a lot of money in this market with £4518 available at this price for Safin. It's great to see him back playing well, and the main thing is that he looks in magnificant physical condition and so far seems to have his head right. On form he's a big fav against Baghdatis and this match is tough to price up, but I think it's wrong. Baggy came through against ToJo in the first round dropping a set but he's really going to have to step it up here. Both these guys have a great record at the Aussie (Baggy 14-3, Safin 27-6). Forget work tomorrow morning, this is going to be great!:D

Re: Australian Open, Men

I hope that one of our specialists can help me. I was thinking of betting on Delic to win at least 1 set against Monaco. Delic did well in first round, or is Monaco of a whole other level? Delic +2.5 set at 1.5 Worth a shot or not?
I was looking into this match up earlier, but didn't feel I could get a read on it. I'm a Monaco fan but he's still sometimes not great on harcourts, and came through against Berlocq in the first round who is terrible on hard courts. He also has a poor record at the Aussie, 1-3 before this year with only win against Lisnard but he is getting better on hard. Delic had a really poor run at the end of last year, but here he's come through qualifying nicely and got a good win against Kendrick. He's a tall fella with a big serve and pretty average groudies, apparently his serve was really hot against Kendrick but I didn't see it. I'm not sure to be honest, 1.5 seems a bit tight, if you lay Monaco 3-0 on Betfair you can get more like 1.6. I see Monaco coming through, but you've get a chance if he starts slowly, maybe 1st set breaker, or if he has a 3rd set lull which he is prone to do.

Implosion from Safin - 0-3 in fifth sets sums up my day:eyes
Still it were very good tips Mr.I 3 times the tipped underdog goes 3-2 down. A bit unlucky but your other tips came through , these gave me some profit. Hope to see ore of them tonight :ok

Re: Australian Open, Men With Garcia-Lopez be careful.Tsongas big serve should afford him some cheap points and Garcia-Lopez will find it a lot tougher against serve than he did against Falla. The short odds on offer about the Frenchman are fully justified.

Re: Australian Open, Men I'm not sure about Tsonga being so short. Obviously he is a big favourite but never sure about him lasting the distance, he is prone to "running out of juice" on his serve and already this year has put in shocking performances against Nieminen and Seppi especially. Will have to think about this one:unsure.
