People used to moan that Horse Racing punters had an advantage as they could pick a 20/1 winner easily but Football/other punters would find it hard to get a 20/1 shot! I was against the rule change but couldnt chnage thier minds. Looks like they prefer a volleyball punter to win each month with a couple of hundred bets :lol Only way I got round that was putting 10pts on at SP and expecting a good price, today I advised Act Sirius at 22-1 but would have had to settle for SP on Sports Punter if wanting to stake the 10pts bet. Don't think i'll bother.[/quote'] doesnt matter phil, they reduce the stake anyway afterwards (its impossible to get 10pts on anything above 5/1) so its always worth taking the price you want & adhering to the stake system they employ. If you can hit a 20/1 winner why not with a full stake? This is part of the game we play. You can have 19 losers and one winner at this price makes amends for all of them. But the award can still be won with these rules :ok:ok Despite the fact that I've only ever put horse-racing bets on SP (so this rule disadvantages me), I think it's fair. In real life, somebody betting at 20/1 will use a smaller stake than somebody betting at evens and expecting the same yield (and should do: if you have a bank of £1000 and can manage a yield of 5% betting at evens, then £20 is a sensible stake to use ... you have less than a 1% chance of going broke ... but if you can manage a yield of 5% betting at 20/1 then you'd be crackers to bet as much as £20 ... you'll go broke more than three quarters of the time). OK, I'm ignoring the fact that you might bet each-way, but the principle remains: a given yield is more impressive, and in practice more profitable, at lower odds, and I think it's fair that the SP rules reflect this. In 2005, before this rule was introduced, three of the top four on SP over the year were posting mostly horse-racing bets, which seemed rather lop-sided. I found that what with SP, posting selections on PL and DHRC, it was starting to seem a bit of a chore, especially since my selection method meant I had to do it around 11am, during the working day, when the early prices were out and the Betfair market had decent liquidity.
