Re: Countdown to Cheltenham - Bets & Banter

So Ameeq it is then, Carl? :unsure And what's the other one?
Altihar (sp) from the same stable running in the last race first day. I got 14/1 for it. like I say dont shoot the messenger but this has come from a london lad who is well in with Moore
That is fooking spooky!!!!!:eek :eek :eek I was looking at this race 5 mins ago, and have just backed Altilhar at 14's with Sporting Odds. Forgot all about the Moore connection too! The reason I backed it....check out these trends on ATR website from just 2 runnings of the race:- "Just two year's evidence to work off so this will be kept brief. The only patterns to have linked both winners to date, Dabiroun and Shamayoun, are (a) both were outsiders, (b) both had raced just three times to get their handicap mark, © both were handled by trainers that are a dab hand at getting one ready for a big handicap" This horse fits all 3 trends:ok
Ive just lumped on AMEEQ for the last race of Day 4 Coral have it @ 16/1 so I went to William Hill who still have it at 33/1:eek:eek :nana:nana:nana

Ive done a L63 with my fancies for the first day which cost me just over £30 inc the 14/1 tip. :hope hope I get something back or else Im in the dog house.

Re: Countdown to Cheltenham - Bets & Banter I've taken the advice on Ameeq and just had £20 @ 48 on betfair this morning. A lad at work and i have had a tenner each Got to say that I've bben interested in the County hurdle for other reasons, and that is basically will Fair along run?? If so i think its very well treated back over hurdles. I suppose we'll know more once tuesday and The Arkle has passed. Exciting aint it :clap

Re: Countdown to Cheltenham - Bets & Banter Hardy Eustace to turn the tables of Detroit City. Detroit City is many people's banker of the 1st Day after producing some solid displays this Season and it's no wonder that this Horse heads the Market in the Betting, however it has been 22 Years since a 5 Year Old won this race and 71 have tried and failed since, so to the statisticians amongst us there is an obvious question mark about Detroit Citys chance. 15 of the last 18 Winners have won at Cheltenham before so it seems sensible to concentrate on this trend for this race. Hardy Eustace has won this Race 'Twice' before and has a serious chance to make the treble and have his name placed alongside the great Istabraq who also won this race 3 Times. Another interesting satistic for this race is that 20 out of the last 23 previous Champion Hurdle Winners won last time out and that is a strong boost to the chances of Detroit City and Hardy Eustace who both won last time out. For me this is a two horse race and it will be between Detroit City and Hardy Eustace, Detroit City beat Hardy Eustace by 1 Length last year at the festival but had a slight weight advantage that day. Today both carry the same weight and we should be in for a cracking finish up the Cheltenham Hill. Interesting Stats To Follow :-

  • French Bred Horses
  • Five Year Olds
  • 2nd to 4th Favourites in the Market

Hardy Eustace to win @ 9/2 :loon

Cheers Jones - I cant help thinking theres something amiss with the horse though as he's drifted quite badly on the National market. I'll keep an eye on his entries :ok
Well I didnt see the race today but I assume he ran well as the price for the National has come tumbling down from 160.0 ish to 38.0 currently :nana Did anyone see the race and explain why this is the case as it doesnt look as though he threatened to win it?

Re: Countdown to Cheltenham - Bets & Banter 2:00 Cheltenham - JCB Triumph Hurdle This is a very tough race with plenty of useful types in here. The likes of Lounaos, Katchit and Degas Art could all play a hand in the finish but in a race this competetive I'm going to look for abit of value. First of all there is Lightning Strike which I have already backed at 50/1. Ran an eye-catching race on debut over slightly further in-behind My Turn Now, has form on this ground on the level and the time in which he clocked when finishing behind Charlie Mann's gelding was fantastic considering it was his first ever run over timber. He's definitley in with a shout at huge odds. Next on my list is Financial Reward, a horse which was noted on my stopwatch when making an electric winning debut over hurdles and has since been caught down in the bog over in Ireland carrying big weights. His pedigree suggests this better ground will be more ideal and he is certainly capable of landing a blow. The booking of Ruby Walsh is a positive considering Paul Nicholls has 2 runners in the race. Selection: Financial Reward (EW) @ 40/1 ( Bet Direct) EW Chance: Lightning Strike @ 40/1 ( Ladbrokes, VCBet) 2:35 Cheltenham - Brit Insurance Novices Hurdle The favourite here Wichita Lineman has had his form franked earlier in the week when Massini's Maguire skated home in the Ballymore, however I'm not keen to be taking an 11/8 shot in a competetive field, therefore I'm going to be looking elsewhere. Flight Leader needs heavy ground to show his best form from what I can see, and he certainly won't get that tomorrow, and is there for underpriced. I'm looking towards Black Harry. Clocked a big speed figure when romping home by a distance at Fairyhouse last time out and has improved with each outing. Shouldn't be inconvenienced by the better ground on offer here and it's interesting why Ruby Walsh rides this instead of the Paul Nicholls 'Pigeon Catcher' he's rode the last twice. For an Each-Way alternative it could be worth giving chances to Leading Run @ 20s who should enjoy the step-up to three miles, and Air Force One who won impressively last time out and has form on the ground. Selection: Black Harry @ 15/2 ( BetDirect) EW Chance: Air Force One @ 25/1 ( BetDirect, >PaddyPower) 3:15 Cheltenham - Cheltenham Gold Cup My bet on The Listener now looks doomed as the ground has gone bang against him, therefore I'm going to have to look elsewhere (The joys of a Non Runner No Bet). So first of all there's Kauto Star who at the prices is short. There's no doubt though that he's a classy horse and will have no problems whatsoever on the ground. Only worry is that some of the better jumpers have fallen this festival and I'm worried about him throwing in that clanger at one of the more stiffer, steeper fences. Therefore at 13/8 he's one to pass up. Next there's Exotic Dancer who's a specialist round here, but on softer ground than he's likely to encounter tomorrow. Therefore State Of Play is my selection. Has abit to find on figures but his form was franked by a massive run by Juveigneur on Tuesday, and goes very well fresh. Is versatile as far as ground conditions are concerned and he looks a tasty price. Selection: State Of Play @ 7/1 ( Ladbrokes, VCBet, >PaddyPower, >Betfred) EW Chance: Idle Talk @ 100/1 ( Ladbrokes) 4:00 Cheltenham - Christies Foxhunters Chase Tough race and one to keep to minimal stakes. Whyso Mayo is going to be extremely tough to beat but you're not going to get rich backing him at 5/2. No favourite won or placed today so I can't get invovled at those prices especially in a Hunter Chase. I like the look of Drombeag who goes really well fresh and had alot of trouble in running when finishing ninth in this last year. Fell in his next run which most probably dented his confidence at Punchestown where he faded into tenth. Has been given a nice break and time to fresh up and this once well regarded horse aimed at the Grand National and looks overpriced and worth a shot at 25/1. Selection: Drombeag (EW) @ 25/1 ( Ladbrokes, VCBet, BetDirect ) 4:40 Cheltenham - Grand Annual Tough looking race and it wouldn't be a suprise to see Demi Beau run a big race, or Hasty Prince. However I'm going to side with an up and coming star from the Martin Pipe stable in Pablo Du Charmil. Blasted home in electric time last time out and look set to contest the Arkle Chase earlier in the week. Connections swerved that engagement for this easier assignment and he looks well weighted under the able assistance of Tom Scudamore. Currently 13/2 with >PaddyPower and looks a cracking bet. As for an EW Alternative I'd be looking towards Coat Of Honour who at 33s has a fair chance of getting in the money. Ran a good race before tiring late on at Wetherby in desperate ground, looks well weighted and with the stable returning to some kind of form could go well at rewarding odds. Selection: Pablo Du Charmil @ 13/2 ( >PaddyPower) EW Chance: Coat Of Honour @ 33/1 ( BetDirect) 5:20 Cheltenham - Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle Looks a trappy race on paper and thats certainly what it'll be. Harry Findlay has already landed a massive punt on Denman and he has another horse he's reported to have backed heavily in Ouninpohja. The ground has come right for him now and he's a quirky sort but Ruby Walsh is down to his minimum here off 10st, looks decently handicapped and should go well. Of the bigger priced sorts I think New Field is worth a small bet, well weighted and ran a fair race behind Heathcote last time out and he wouldnt be without a chance on this sounder surface. Selection: Ouninpohja @ 7/1 ( Ladbrokes) EW Chance: New Field @ 20/1 ( Ladbrokes, VCBet, >PaddyPower, BetDirect)

Re: Countdown to Cheltenham - Bets & Banter

I am a big fan of Kauto Star...yes there are some of us still out here! Maybe the 6/4 gives poor value Maybe the horse will not get round at Cheltenham, I just don't know and neither does anybody else. Kauto Star is surely the class act in the race, I haven't got this excited for years about any horse. He is a freak of nature maybe. With a heart seemingly as big as a bull elephants tied to an athleticism that allows him to get away with the occasional blunder and a cruising speed that makes most others wilt...these all make him a prodigious animal. I think it is more his concentration than his jumping that needs close attention...or is it the jockey's concentration that needs to be 100%??? OK then, if Kauto Star was a woman I would be jumping straight into bed. I am banking on Kauto Star, I just cannot see anything to beat him and am willing to endure possible heart stopping moments before he pulls clear on that final run in. The point of this post is to let people be aware that there are still those of us who believe this horse is something very, very special.
:cow :nana :clap Well done Kauto Star...I Love you.:clap :nana :cow
