tonysoprano
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Early look and I think its a decent price on Inter Milan. They have signed some quality players - Vieira,Grosso,Imbrahimovic and Crespo. Think Real Madrid look good aswell with Capello in charge and the signings they have made. finalscore
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Can't see past Barcelona again and 5/1 is very fair. Quite simply they are the best team in Europe. The only negative you can find is that it's a cup competition, however, apart from the final, Barca will get at least two bites at the cherry. Pile in each way - half the odds 1,2.
iwewe
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 I take Chelsea - The Special One has 2 seasons left from the 5 that he mentioned when he took rains at Chelsea. They would rather go for it now with the beefed up squad, not that the squad cant be beefed up next season. This is the season.
theoldmaster
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 i reckon the real value is on Valencia here, i really fancy them to go far in this seasons C.L i got them at round 20/1, though i doubt whether those odds are still available, the reasoning is there for everyone to see, a squad that includes Canizares, Joaquin, Villa, Albeda, Vicente, Aimar and Morientes. all of whom are well equiped to deal with the pressure the european cup brings. and Barca scraped a draw with Valencia just last weekend. Carl
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Well I might just have a sniff on Chelsea. Why? no doubt they have been close but just lacked that cutting edge that Barca have now with Jose adding such 'European' masters of the CL to his squad IF they dont win it this time round then Jose will be out of a job and the mighty Chelsea bubble might just start cracking even more than its doing in the prem. And that cant be a bad thing;)
fgee
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Arsenal @ 17's is tempting, playing some good football now Chelsea and Barca the obvious favourites Inter haven't got a hope Lyon @ 21 is great value i think, 6 pts in the group and they look very strong, probably built on last years quarters too
valenciaNo1
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 TheKing I guess we are one party.I think Valencia finally foun their optimal selection and a coach.Ranieri interrupted the serie of successive CL finals but this year the participation on the final is under no questions. With a seasoned striker like Morientes(who actually scored against valencia on the first final Valencia v Real Madrid and who led Monaco to the CL final in 2004) and Ayala,Albelda,Torres, and Vicente from the previous generation and the talent and vigor of Villa,Valencia will not make the mistakes they made in the previous finals(actually the game against Bayern Munich was a gameof luck and only the unconfidentiality of valencia players at that time prevented them from winning on the penalties).I don't say it just because I am their biggest fan.I know them very well(see my posts about their game against Shachtar).I put 10 k @21 as soon as the odds were issued. Now the odds are still a value. The odds vary around 13 I think. chala
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Call me crazy, but I've had a little nibble of 7pts @ 140 on CSKA Moscow. Now I probably should have waited til Arsenal probably beat them this week as the odds may well then go out, but conversely if they manage to get a point they could come in. Getting back to the point, I was very impressed with their performance against Arsenal. They closed down very well giving the Arsenal players very little time on the ball, and although Henry had a goal disallowed that should have stood, that was Arsenal's only real decent chance. Moscow created a number, and if it wasn't for a couple of great last ditch tackles it could have been more. The big test will be when they play away from Moscow. Clubs like Kiev have been a real force at home over the years in the Champions League, but when they have played away they have been soundly beaten. There's now money available in Russian football, and if they are still going well come January you could see some more decent players come in. Obviously this is a real long shot, and I would probably have to lay off at some point if they did get far, but I feel that you can't back Barcelona & Chelsea at those sort of prices, in what is essentially knockout Cup Football. davidmphill
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Just to update the odds and see the difference before the start and Barca have drifted and Chelsea have come into favouritism. The impressive Lyon are 3rd favourites with a lot of firms. Bayern Munich look quite a big price right now and Liverpool despite qualifying after 4 games have drifted out in the market. WorkingForTheEnemy
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Agree with B.Munich. Recent years have shown clubs with good defenses doing well in the CL. Four games so far and Bayern are yet to concede.
Fader
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Lyon looking very good, aint let a goal in yet unless im mistaken but they always seem to lose to the bigger teams - and when they let one in they let 3 in. jaroiten
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 I am very tempted to back LFC and lay Barca, Barca still have a lot of work to do to even manage the groupstage, and a price just above 6 is ridiculus in my mind.. AJ
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 I think Liverpool are fairly priced. They do not have the class in depth to win this. Barca are short considering their current form and the tough match verus Breman. I'd look at AC Milian for value
Rafa
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 25/1 on Liverpool is good. They should definitely tighten in from this. They are on track to win their group, if they get a decent draw in the next round they will be able to be layed at that stage. Saying that if Gerrard & Carragher find form, home & away they are capable of beating anyone & progressing. Valenica & Lyon are the two teams that none of the so-called "big" teams will want to draw later on. I think Arsenal showed that CSKA will be dumped out by a decent team that takes its chances. valenciaNo1
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 Rafael Benitez will see his former team Valencia win the CL and make one of his dreams come true, although much later than he wanted them to do it.Rafael Benitez is a great coach and I wish him luck but CL is too dynamical a tournament to be won twice by the same team in the same formation.Only Ajax did it in two successive years but they were well organized and nothing changed after they won the leahue.Nowadays teams either change their attitude or their formation(they buy "better" players with the money) and that's why every year we witness a new team winning CL. valenciaNo1
Re: Champions League Winner 2006/7 No team is that much better than the other. This applies to other tournaments and leagues as well.Just the incentive here is bigger and every team shows its full potential. In most cases pure luck plays enormous part in determining the winner. But CL winner statistics just point a general truth about soccer and life-Only the change lasts forever. In fact it is far more profitable to lay previous year winners than to back them.Don't you think
