Racing on TV

Recommended Posts

We often get a thread concerning some aspect of tv coverage of racing which is obviously where most of us see most of our racing

Sky Sports, Racing TV, ITV, pundits, commentators, the amateurish coverage on the non specialist racing channels, feature programmes worth catching and so on

Thought it might be an idea to have a thread to collect these posts together in one place

I'm going to start off with a bit of a gripe ……… :loon

There doesn't appear to be a 'Racing Debate' show on Sky Sports Racing today

Anyone know if this is a one-off or has it been cancelled ?

Apart from the odd race that I have a runner in it's about the only thing I watch on SSR

I dont think Ive ever seen the Racing Debate show on sky, Ive seen a racing program on ITV4 Saturday morning thats about it..

If its on SS i think its most probably been shelved as they dont have half the amount of meeting they used to have so cant see them having that much to debate.

As for RTV cant stand the smug old school tie presenter Nick Luck , so I only put it on to watch a race I have an interest in then  turn it over.

The Nick Luck show has come to the end of the current series on RTV

You can watch old ones on Racing TV for free under videos / on demand.

As for the Sunday Forum thingy on Sky Sports, i dont tend to watch that as they have old Jim McGrath who i cant stand and occasionally McCririck who looks like he's slowly dieing. Oh and Alastair Down who is always slurring his words???? (Have you seen the youtube videos with Harry Findlay and Neil Channing - embarrassing)

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah .…… The Racing Debate is back in the schedules on Sunday

I guess they were just taking a break because they were covering some Hong Kong meetings

Still haven't got used to the Irish racing being on Racing TV...….. but I have noticed more split-screenage

I didn't see it myself but I read that there were 3 races on screen at the same time one day in the last week or so

I have to say i'm a bit disappointed with Sky Sports Racing and the way they do things.

I'm not sure the French racing is working, they need a bit more enthusiasm in the studio, i just find myself switching over or fast forwarding through it.
Alex Hammond is trying too hard and that Jamie Lynch just tries to make everything sound like its the first time it ever happened.
Freddy is quite good and is one of the best ex-jocks on screen.

They promised us a reporter at each track and they are doing just that although it does rather create a fragmented show where you get a bit from the studio and an interview with a winning jockey.

Racing TV

Why does Amy Ryan always say "Like You Say" in every sentence, she really needs to be told about that. James Willoughby is a class act and should be used more and I liked the George Baker/USRachel combo for Kempton. Not sure where George is, not seen him lately. Fran Berry for the Irish stuff is ok and that James Millman is very knowledgeable and worth listening to.

Shame they now only seem to use Nick Luck and Lydia for Grade 1 tracks and the Dixon brothers are the best thing about the channel.

On the whole we are lucky to have 2 dedicated racing channels so maybe i'm being a bit picky but for the money they charge we have the right to have a go too!

Yes with SSR we need less pundits and more of the horses

The french guy they use in the studio is very hard to understand, and agree that Lynch is becoming annoying

Amy tries to rattle off 50 words in a second, but tells you nothing!

I believe George is the agent now for Doyle and Buick so his time for punditry is limited this summer.

I like US Rachel but am constantly amazed by the way she pronounces 'forward' ……..

sounds like she's saying 'froward' !

Not too bothered about SSR having reporters on track ……. the only useful they do is assess how the horses look in the paddock

The pre and post race interviews are a total waste as nobody ever says anything apart 'he's a nice horse' and 'I'll have to see how he comes out of the race and talk to the owners before deciding his next target'

Today must be a rarity - not a single UK meeting being shown on ATR :eek

I hadn't noticed that but now see that there are 3 afternoon and 3 evening meetings on RTV and they all overlap around 5-6pm ………. :loon

I've got the Giro cycling on my laptop and the Cricket on TV ….. I'm giving the racing a miss today until my selections run at Aintree later
