Tennis : Wimbledon 2005 (20th June - 3rd July)

Re: Tennis : Wimbledon 2005 (20th June - 3rd July) With the completion of Roddick's match rounds off my scheduled Day 11 action with a 16.35pts profit. Johansson certainly proved what a tough opponent he is considering how he almost always got the better of Roddick in any rallies that stretched beyond 4 strokes - just imagine what Johansson could do to mediocre players with few notable strengths if he could trouble Roddick so much despite the American's big serve. What a cracking final that was between Venus and Davenport - definitely the best I've seen in a long while and that should be the way ladies' tennis is played. Anyway, my account remains unchanged as I break even on Day 12. Starting Bank : 100.00pts Current Bank : 278.95pts Profit/Loss : +178.95pts

Re: Tennis : Wimbledon 2005 (20th June - 3rd July) And that takes us to Day 13 and the men's final at Wimbledon with my final pick of the tournament. ;) 30pts Federer to beat Roddick 3-0 (2.22 @ Betfair) :D I don't think anyone who knows anything about tennis and speaking in his right mind will see past Federer for the title. However, given the pretty skinny odds available for a Federer win, I've decided to go for a more adventurous Federer 3-0 set betting. In 3 of the 4 Grand Slam finals which Federer has contested to date, FedEx has won the final in straight sets. The only one which Federer didn't take in straight sets was his defeat of Roddick at Wimbledon last year, but let's not forget how much the rain disrupted play on that day. Honestly, if Federer plays to form, 3-0 is what you'd reasonably expect from someone who has dropped just 1 set all tournament. Moreover, Federer leads Roddick 8-1 on career meetings(2-0 on grass), having dropped just 1 set in his last 4 meetings with Roddick. Quite simply, Federer is a class above everyone else at the moment(and a class above many of the all-time greats as well) and even a set is very much his to lose. The sight of watching the Swiss genius at work is simply one to behold and I can honestly see him outclassing Roddick, who hasn't exactly been running away with his matches against lesser opponents than Federer to begin with. Cheers & Good Luck! :ok Starting Bank : 100.00pts Current Bank : 278.95pts Profit/Loss : +178.95pts

Re: Tennis : Wimbledon 2005 (20th June - 3rd July) Just seen another cracking bet which I think is worth a very good shot of. ;) 15pts 36 Games or Less in Federer-Roddick match (2.00 @ Ladbrokes) :D This is basically no different from the Federer 3-0 bet IMO, but looks a much better proposition than the 3-0 at many sportsbooks which give Federer 3-0 around 1.80-1.90. If Federer wins this in straight sets, you're only going to get a maximum of 39 games at most(worst case scenario), but knowing how good Federer's returns are, I can't see this even going to two tiebreaks, nevermind 3. Evidently, all Federer needs for the bet to come in is to make one break and win at least a set in 6 games(instead of 7 as a 7-5 or tiebreak would take) and he could well afford to go for two tiebreaks(highly unlikely though). That reasoning only holds so long as Federer wins this in straight sets, which is something I'm fairly confident of. Cheers & Good Luck! :ok

Re: Tennis : Wimbledon 2005 (20th June - 3rd July) Federer seems to have a habit of reserving his very best for Grand Slam finals and I thought his performance today is by far his best since his 6-0, 7-6, 6-0 defeat of Lleyton Hewitt at last year's US Open final(I'd rank that as his finest performance personally) - having said that, no one could have lived with him today as he's just on a different planet. I haven't got a doubt in my mind he's the most gifted player I've ever had the privilege of watching and if he stays injury-free and keeps progressing at the rate he is, it'd be hard to dispute with him being the greatest player to have ever picked up a tennis racquet when he calls time on his career. Terrific stuff, Roger! :ok Anyway, Roger's success has capped off a highly rewarding tournament for me personall with a 51.6pts profit on the final day of the tournament. Until next time then... :cow Starting Bank : 100.00pts Current Bank : 330.55pts Profit/Loss : +230.55pts
