Pepen
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Hi Grex First of all, congratulations on your succes here :) I'm wondering (like everyone else most likely) how you choose your selections? I'm not asking for the exact formula, I'm just wondering if you have made some variables and parameters using statistical methods, modelling a way of forecasting the likelyhood of under/over -> calculating the "true odds" for either happening, or if you have found some criteria(s) that seems to be working? And by criterias I just mean like in your 'Short Priced Home Favourites" thread have simply chosen teams that match something like *quote* 1.selections will be on Premier League and Serie A matches with home team odds of between 1.2 and 1.6 (published Bet365 odds) */quote* I'm just asking, because I'm very interested in statistics and statistical modelling, and made a model trying to predict home/draw/away wins in the English Premier League with some small succes, and now I want to try and do the same for the over/under markets. Sorry if I'm not making myself very clear, sometimes I just type and forget to see if what I'm typing is making any sense when it's out of my head :)
Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Thanks for the interest in the "system", Pepen. Yes, the system is based on "value" or "true odds". I used quite a simple citerion to produce a linear equation for the probability of overs and unders (I can't tell you the criterion.... it's very simple... and people might laugh at me;)). By comparing my probability calculation with published odds, you get the value percentage. Then, by back-testing, I established the value percentage cut-off range to give optimum performance (they differ slightly for each league, but all are above 100% value). I keep it simple, as my statistical analysis is limited to straight-forward Excel functions. By the way, your quotation from the "Short Priced Home Favourites" is a bit out-of-date..... the range was changed to 1.45-1.80 (Bet365) very early on. Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield jimjohn;1814306 I agree with your analysis of the under 1.5 market. However, regarding the "exactly 2 goals" market, I make it 24 out of 83. The average odds seem to be about 4.0, which would have produced a yield of 16%.... worth keeping an eye on :ok EDIT: having looked more closely at the "exacly 2 goals" market, I think that the average adds are nearer 3.5.... in which case, this season would just about have broken even. A quick back-test on the previous 7 seasons indicates the same sort of results, so perhaps there is no mileage in this option.
Pepen
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Yah, i noticed right after I pasted, but as it was only meant as an example, to specify what I meant by criteria ;) I'm glad to hear it can be done simple, my own model ended up with a cutoff and 2 variables, which in my opinion seems to be alittle simple, when used to predict the outcome of a soccergame :) But it seemed to work, had decent ROI over 2 seasons...do you then update your estimates after each game, or just after each season? Sorry for the load of questions, i'm just extremely impressed with your results so far, hoping to do just alittle as good...and my programming skillz are not impressive, so I'm using excel and the built-in functions, no fancysmancy VBA or anything like it. Anyway, thank you for your answers, and good luck with your systems :)

DEFINITELY NOT . For me, once you have found the optimum "formula" during back-testing over a minimum of 6 seasons, you should not adjust it when "going live". I think this is what is referred to as "data farming", and is simply adjusting the system to suit recent trends. All systems are a long-term exercise, with ups and downs, and you shouldn't try to compensate for inevitable fluctuation in fortunes....... here endeth today's sermon. Pepen
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Hey don't mock the danes..we're pretty funny, remember the Muhammed drawings? ow..wait..nevermind I'd be doing all kinds of systems, if my stupid excel-file would be working properly, but I haven't had the time to sit down and adjust it. Right now I can use it on leagues with 20 teams in it, but when there's fewer (or more) I have to use to much time on altering all the retarded functions I've implemented in my excel document..in a weeks time I'll be doing a two week long exam in statistical modelling, perhaps I'll find time during those two weeks to "perfect" the excel sheet, when I get tired of trying to get the statistics program to work.. Do you have some nice and easy way of making the lagged variables? (meaning for example how to easily go and identify team a's last 6 games and get the needed information from those 6 games) I saw in another thread that your HDD died, and may it rest in pieces, but I hope you'll get back on track with some more of your old systems, they seemed really exciting and different from the normal ones :) Btw, how come you're working, when you're constantly producing highyielding systems? ;)

I used to approximate by selecting the previous 60 games (in a 20 team league) and you would usually get 6 "hits", but sometimes 5, and sometimes 7. But I don't pretend to be an Excel expert.... nested IF functions, MATCH, HLOOKUP and VLOOKUP are about my limit. My current systems don't exacly require complex Excel functions...... but you must admit the presentation tables are very colourful :ok By the way, I still work (part-time) 'cos otherwise I would get bored..... and I would spend all my day annoying people with stupid posts on Punters Lounge :tongue2
Pepen
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Love them presentation tables. Especially the colour. Actually only the colour :/ My excelsheet is made up of: Nested IF functions, VLOOKUP and way to much manual labour...so...well...if results such as yours can be made using the exact same formula, I guess I'll be on my way back to the drawingboard, thinking up some good way of beating the bookies soon :) I'll choose to take the (part-time) work bit as that you're supplying your salary with a bit of succesful betting, meaning it can be done, meaning I'll waste another way to many years of my life trying to find the shortcut to riches beyond comprehension! jimjohn
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 121 bets +16% yield Grex;1815242 I've always believed in recent form, usually the last 6 games, so this is the basis for my system, but now I've added the looking for value bit. It seems to be working for my overs but not unders. This is the first time I've attempted to keep proper records so I don't expect to make my fortune yet, just hopefully find out where my 'edge' is. My bets are on the >2.5 market, though for the 1st time I looked at >3.5 but only can get on Prem and Champ games as all my bets are with Betfair and they dont have >3.5 or total goals for L1 and L2. I'll look into other leagues when I get time, been only an exel beginer it's all a little time consuming. Only just started copy and pasting fixtures into my sheets after manually inputting them for weeks and still do this for results :sad . Keeps me out of mischief I suppose, jimjohn. Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield Just a test to see if this weekend's selections registered (the tables are getting very big and I sometimes get "error" messages) EDIT.... it's OK
BobNL
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield You're doing great work Grex, also with your other system! :ok But these Unders/Overs are still on the 2.5 line because you said before that Over 3.5 gave more value if I read right? On which one do you bet?
Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield Thanks, Bob, and :welcome to Punters Lounge. If you look at the "Overs" table, it includes the odds for over 3.5 (yellow section).... but this is only a monitoring exercise. It wasn't "live tested" from the beginning of the season, so I can't claim any credit for the yield of 71%.:\ You asked "On which one do you bet?"....... I don't bet.... it's a mug's game ;)
merlin
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield .... hello Grex young fella, it's been a while since we last conversed. Looks like you have a decent system going here, and all the results look really healthy. The tables look as colourful as ever and all very neatly presented, looks like I'll be a regular visitor from now on. Keep up the great work! :clap
Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield Thanks for the kind words, Merlin.... not such a "young fella" these days, I'm afraid... that's why I hide my age on my personal details.:) Yes, I do go a bit overboard with the pretty tables.... I'm a great believer in the quality of the presentation tables.... the easier they are to follow, the more people will be interested in the system. I regularly drop in on your "Michael Wray" thread.... after an indifferent start this season, it seems to be picking up... I hope the upturn continues :ok
Grex
Re: UNDER or OVER (as the actress said to the bishop) 130 bets +18% yield Bad news :(..... BBC's Lawro agrees with the two EP predictions.... Fulham "over" (2-1), Bolton "under" (2-0) ;)
