StevieDay1983 reacted to Kenton Schweppes in English Cups - August 2016
After a successful start to the season with a 4 fold win yesterday, it's onto Tuesday for the League Cup ties.
Still no form to speak off but a few prices are catching my eye already on these games, all depends on team changes though.
Barnsley evs at home to Northampton, Barnsley put up a good show at Ipswich and at evens at home against a team from the league below? Rotherham 11/20 at home to Morecambe. Morecambe are in for a massive struggle and although Rotherham are no great shakes, I would imagine they'd have enough in the tank to see them off over 90 minutes. Bristol City evs at Wycombe, again, a team from two divisions higher being offered at evs? Bristol City are a decent side despite struggling last season I would expect them to be much better this season round. Fulham 6/5 at Leyton Orient, again, two divisions separate these two, Fulham aren't that bad and have just beaten Newcastle. Think Leyton Orient will have a decent season but not sure they'll have enough to beat Fulham.
Barnsley evs
Rotherham 11/20
Bristol City evs
Fulham 6/5
A few others, 3 away's which look decent prices and after two of them enjoyed decent wins at the weekend and one against a team that look really under prepared for the new season, according to my work colleague anyway, who is a season ticket holder at Boundary Park. Going to go with two of my selections that delivered on Saturday.
Huddersfield 6/5
Wigan Athletic 19/20 (you can evs elsewhere on this)
Millwall 6/5
Think the bookies are being generous with some of these prices, things might change and some teams reigned in after the weekends results.

StevieDay1983 reacted to Darran in Mid-week Non League 8th-10th August
Braintree v Eastleigh
Like the Bromley and Tranmere game on Saturday this match sees one side I have tipped for relegation play a team I have tipped for the title. Eastleigh looked good in the first half against Guiseley on Saturday when going 2 up. They weren't as good in the 2nd half though and allowed Guiseley to come back into the game. I think it might have just been a case of Eastleigh thinking the job was done and easing off in the heat. In someways the Guiseley comeback might be a good thing for Eastleigh as it was a reminder that you will get punished in this division if you switch off. It was no surprise to see that pretty much everything positive that Braintree did on Saturday against North Ferriby came through Simeon Akinola. It didn't lead to a goal though and I think the 0-0 draw against the side who I think are potentially the weakest in the division, goes someway to back up what I thought about them pre-season. If Braintree lose Akinola I think they will be in deep trouble and the key for any team playing them will be to keep him quiet. Eastleigh look a big price at William Hills' 19/10 as I make them favourites for this match
Chester v Dagenham & Redbridge
It can be dangerous to get too carried away with results on the opening day of the season, but here we have a team who lost 3-0 hosting a team who won 3-0. Ironically their two opponents also play each other on Tuesday night, but more on that shortly. From the highlights I saw and from the report I read Dagenham were very impressive on Saturday. Now Southport are likely to be in another relegation battle this season so I wouldn't want to get too carried away with Dagenham just yet, but it did hint that they could be promotion contenders. Chester meanwhile looked disjointed and poor when losing 3-0 to Gateshead and my feeling was they would be in the bottom 8 again looked a fair one. John Still is sure to make his Dagenham side hard to beat on the road and they clearly have the goals in the team to take advantage of the chances that will come their way and the 8/5 with Marathon looks too big.
Southport v Gateshead
As mentioned above these were the two sides who played Chester and Dagenham on Saturday. I did mention in my ante-post preview that I nearly tipped Gateshead up as they had looked like they had improved their squad from last season and they got off to a flying start on Saturday. Last season they lacked consistency, but hopefully they won't be like that this season as on paper they have a much stronger side than Southport. Marathon are biggest at 6/4 and that looks value as I would make them clear favourites to win.
York v Macclesfield
York were very disappointing on Saturday when held to a 1-1 draw with Maidstone on BT Sport. Granted in the first half it looked like they struggled on the 3G pitch a little, but even so they must consider themselves fortunate to have got a point as they were pretty poor. Macclesfield on the other hand were the complete opposite in beating Torquay 2-0. Now it seems Torquay didn't perform at all on Saturday and were very disappointing, but Macclesfield should take plenty of confidence from their performance. With York looking they might need a bit of time to gel it could be a good time to be playing them and Macclesfield look very over priced at 2.3/1 with Marathon. At that price I make them the best bet of the evening.
Hayes & Yeading v Hitchin
Fair to say it was a rather dramatic afternoon following the Hitchin game on Saturday. First of all we had the massive gamble which meant having been odds against when I put the preview up on Thursday night, they were no bigger than 2/5 before Friday lunchtime. When Cinderford took a 3 goal lead I thought the bookies were going to keep the money, but having seen the Cinderford side I knew that if Hitchin could get one they might be in with a chance. The comeback started in the 76th minute and apparently after that first goal you could see the Cinderford players start to look nervy. Hitchin got a penalty in injury time to win the game and duly scored it to land the money for us. They hit the woodwork five times during the game so I think it was a bit of a fluke that Cinderford took a 3 goal lead. That should give Hitchin plenty of confidence going into this game though. This is the first league game at Hayes' new ground and they will be keen to win, but they lost 2-1 to Froome on Saturday and I am not sure the bookies have priced this up right in making them such short favourites. The 21/10 with Skybet and BetVictor looks worth chancing.

StevieDay1983 reacted to Kenton Schweppes in Your Football League Accas 06/07 August
Trying to keep it sensible, still we seem some form.
A good start though, a return on the first day of the season!!
Norwich were too good not to back at that price, Blackburn are going down, I said that before the season started and today has just confirmed my suspicions.
The Forest result was closer than I expected and when we (Huddersfield) conceded an equalizer in the 79th minute, I thought my bet was blown but we re-took the lead almost immediately.
Great start to the season betting wise.

Keeping it low key with a 4 fold today
Norwich 6/5 away at Blackburn
Huddersfield 11/10 home to Brentford (think my heart is ruling my head here)
Forest 19/20 home to newly promoted Burton Albion who are probably in for a massive wake up call today
Millwall 8/13 at home to a fairly unprepared Oldham
Pays 13/1 in total.

StevieDay1983 got a reaction from NornIron in Your Premier League End Table Predictions
Haha, big call on Southampton there NornIron! I'm not sure I can see it happening. I think they will fall further down the table. Here are my predictions...
1. Manchester City (think Pep is just going to fine tune things and will get it right - still think they will fall short in Europe again)
2. Manchester United (Jose always does well in his first season or two but then gets bored. He's wanted this job for ages so he'll thrive)
3. Chelsea (Conte has the basis of a very good squad but he's going to need time to adapt his tactics to the Premier League before he pushes for a title challenge)
4. Arsenal (signing Granit Xhaka is a wise decision but they still lack defensively. Still think Wenger will get the standard Champions League qualification spot)
5. Liverpool (I'm not totally sold on Klopp's signings but he can bring the best out of even the most average players so think they will flourish this season but just miss out on top four)
6. Tottenham (it will be difficult for Pochettino to replicate last season's success. I rate him as a manager but their lack of movement in the transfer market is disconcerting)
7. Everton (I think Koeman will take the Toffees to the next level and I was even tempted to put them above Spurs. It's going to be close)
8. West Ham (it appears Payet is staying and that will be key. I think they will love life in their new home in front of the big crowd and Bilic is such a class man manager)
9. Leicester (Kante has gone and I still think Mahrez will leave. Those two players were massive but I have liked the look of their new additions. I think they will still have a positive season but nowhere near last season)
10. Middlesbrough (I think if they continue along this route with their signings they could be the surprise package this season)
11. Southampton (their new manager is an interesting one but I think he will need time to adapt and so will the players. Will have a solid season but will fall short of Europe)
12. Sunderland (I think Moyes will do well with them. They have everything in place for a decent manager to start the season well with them. He'll turn them into mid-table mediocrity)
13. Stoke (I'm still not a massive fan of Hughes. I think he should do better with the players he has. I think he'll under-achieve and get sacked this season)
14. Swansea (totally agree with neilovan - vanilla)
15. Crystal Palace (I think they will fall short of doing anything and it could be a season that sees Pardew depart Selhurst Park)
16. West Brom (Tony Pulis never gets teams relegated!)
17. Burnley ( I actually think Dyche will be wiser and I think he's one of the best British managers around so will guide them to safety if they spend right)
18. Bournemouth (I think selling Ritchie was a massive mistake and they could well struggle purely due to a lack of resources and quality)
19. Watford (will have a terrible season. Big risk changing manager and could be a long campaign ending in relegation)
20. Hull (not much I like about the club and wouldn't care if they went down in 20th place)
-
StevieDay1983 reacted to neilovan in Your Premier League End Table Predictions
1. Man Utd (Great signings in every line of the game. Mourinho is not there to come second | Mou loves the 2-0 scoreline)
2. Man City (All the firepower is there, just turn the engine on | Over 2.5 goal champions this season)
Top two way better than the rest for me. 6 to 10 point gap between them and the rest.
3. Chelsea (Conte will be excellent for Chelsea. No better defensive manager in league | will be a top NO to BTTS bet every week )
4. Liverpool (Klopp is a great manager, but Liverpool can't compete financially. | Great 1st half team)
5. Arsenal ( 22 Goal per season striker problem | too many of the 'same type' of players | To win you GOTTA Spend some cash)
6. Tottenham (The lack of on-field leadership shown in that game vrs. Chelsea, showed me that Spurs don't have the BMT to win it).
Any combination of the above four teams in these positions. I don't think any of them have the total package needed to win the league.
7. Leicester (Midweek champions League games are going to be very disruptive for Leicester. The squad is not deep enough for this | Double Chance on opponent after midweek games)
8. Everton (Koeman gets Everton back on track | Great home form)
9. Stoke (Stoke were horrid away from home last season. Can they get the attacking balance right on away days?)
10. Southampton (I don't think people understand what a solid Coach Koeman is)
11. West Ham ( Expect a slow start to a vanilla season, maybe a decent cup run ).
Any combination of the above five teams in these positions.
12. Swansea (Just vanilla again).
13. Middesbrough (Rock solid defense that has improved year on year will make them tough to beat).
14. Bournemouth (Howe will keep them up )
Six goes into three relegated
16. West Brom (Showed awful form towards the end of last season, not winning any of their last 9 league games.).
17. Sunderland ( A miracle that Sunderland stayed up ... thank Big Sam. I see them really struggling under Moyes. Can you try too hard ?)
18. Crystal Palace ( Palace winning just 2 of their last 21 league games, only stayed up due to an impressive start.).
18. Watford (New manager upheaval could see them relegated ).
19. Burnley (Relegated : They just don't have the firepower to stay in the league).
20 Hull (Relegated : A disenfranchised Owner and managerial upheaval ).

StevieDay1983 reacted to NornIron in Your Premier League End Table Predictions
OK, let me have a crack at this. It's probably a billion to one to predict the outcome of the entire Premier League but, for what it's worth, here's my effort:
1. Man City (Guardiola factor kicks in early)
2. Man Utd (Mourinho back to his tactical best)
3. Southampton (This year's surprise package....some shrewd signings in Redmond & Hojbjerg adding to an already impressive squad.)
4. Liverpool (Klopp getting closer but no cigar this year...settles for top 4).
5. Chelsea (another season of struggle for Chelsea. Conte fails to ignite the Blues)
6. Arsenal (The unthinkable happens and they miss out on Top 4.....Wenger's swansong).
7. Stoke (Joe Allen inspires the Potters to the dizzy heights of Europa League)
8. Everton (Koeman stabilises the Toffees and on track for top 4 in 2017/18)
9. Leicester (the people's champions not disgraced but lightening fails to strike twice)
10. West Ham (Big ambition, big budget and big crowds but average results).
11. Sunderland (Moyes get's it right (finally)....scraps enough boring victories to attain a decent finish)
12. Tottenham (Pochettino's departs for the Argentina job and Spurs slump to this season's big disappointment).
13. Middesbrough (Boro comfortably finish as the highest placed new-comers).
14. West Brom (Same old story. Half decent home form but dreadful on the road).
15. Swansea (Flirt with relegation but a 4 game winning streat in February hauls them clear).
16. Crystal Palace (Pardew leaves mid season for a better job offer...Palace just do enough to stay up).
17. Bournemouth (Last day win. Eddie Howe works his magic and keeps the Cherries in the Premier League, yet again.)
18. Watford (A bridge too far.....slump to a final day defeat and relegation).
19 Hull (Losing Bruce proves to be a hurdle that can't be overcome....straight back to the Championship they go).
20. Burnley (Relegated by early March on very few points).

Simeon, great to see this set up. Great to see CSKA Sofia back in the mix. The Sunday League team I manage is called CSKA Sophia Gardens and we've built a dedicated following of over 2,000 fans from CSKA Sofia due to our name similarity. So really hope they do well. Who are you tipping for success this season?

StevieDay1983 got a reaction from Kenton Schweppes in Football League Pre-Season Bets
That's the thing though. It's a huge gamble. He's signing players who are not experienced in the Championship. I actually have a soft spot for Huddersfield (first team I ever managed on the old Championship Manager!). I will say La Parra and Stankovic look like quality signings but then La Parra was cast aside by a Wolves team that performed very averagely last season due to his lack of consistency. I just think the squad needs such an overhaul you could be in trouble unless the new signings all click. I certainly hope I am wrong and you are right.
Blackburn are a good tip for relegation actually. Can never tell if Owen Coyle is going to do a great job or a dreadful one! He's never average.

Quite a long shot of course but you never know with the likes of Gareth Bale in the side. They had a successful qualifying campaign including zero defeats to a good Belgium side. Not one I expect to come in but worth a punt low stakes.
p.s can anyone explain each way in football to me, if I selected each way on this selection does it mean I would win even if Wales came 2nd?
