    12.40 Wincanton - 2pts win Keep Moving @ 13/2
Won this race well last year off just 2lbs lower and has had excuses since. Ran okay when shaping as if needing the run at Exeter last time but ought to be a different proposition this afternoon and there's market support suggesting he can land this for the second year running.
    12.55 Doncaster - 1pt e/w Firmament @ 25/1
Backed this one last time over c&d and he went well for a long way on heavy ground and the slightly better conditions today will suit. Enjoys this track and with a slightly more conservative ride looks capable of getting involved here at a big price.
    1.00 Aintree - 1pt e/w General Custard @ 10/1
Jumped a bit novicey on chasing debut after a long absence at Wetherby last time but could be a different proposition now with that under his belt. Needs to avoid the dreaded bounce but hopefully he can be ridden handier today as he gets the trip well. Mark looks appealing on novice hurdling form and if attacking his fences today, should hold sound claims.
    1.30 Doncaster - 1pt e/w Ostilio @ 13/2
Dakota Gold will find this harder to dominate and I think the all round pace of Ostilio can see him prevail this afternoon. Plenty of form over 7f and a mile but has the speed to lie up with these and I can see him outstaying them late on so long as holding an early pitch. Good chance at the weights and ought to give a good account of himself.
    1.35 Aintree - 2pts win Golan Fortune @ 11/2
Market support is there after this one ran a very promising race over a trip shorter than ideal on his reappearance at Cheltenham a couple of weeks back. Has ideal conditions here, is on a winnable mark and ought to go very well indeed.
    1.50 Wincanton - 1pt e/w The White Mouse @ 12/1
Very interesting runner for Lucy Wadham as it looks well handicapped on novice form - winning a dual with Oscar Rose which reads well and was in the process of running a big race when clipping heels and coming down in a hot handicap when last seen. That was a while ago now but won its hurdling debut after a break and early market signals are quite promising.
    2.05 Doncaster - 1pt e/w Born With Pride @ 12/1
Still lightly raced and has a big chance on any of her form over this sort of trip. Hasn't finished off her races over further and it may just be that she doesn't stay and these conditions look spot on for her. Won on debut on heavy, ran okay despite having things go wrong in the hot Berlin Tango race at Kempton and ran a solid race over 1m4f behind Wonderful Tonight in France a couple of starts back. 1m2f on soft looks ideal and has a solid chance on ratings if bouncing back.

    6.00 Kempton - 1pt e/w Uncle Dick @ 10/1
Ran really well in two sprint novice races to start his career but never travelled a yard on soft ground last time (well backed). Can forgive that effort and the return to a sounder surface here looks likely to suit. There's plenty of pedigree on his dam's side so a mile shouldn't be an issue and if bouncing back now, looks a big price.
    6.30 Kempton - 1pt e/w Bandoss @ 9/1
Ran well on debut before his form dropped at Bath when last seen. Has had wind surgery since and is holding up okay in the market here after that break. He's bred to do better than this mark and interestingly all three races won by this one's half siblings have all been on the all-weather, so an interesting debutant on the polytrack.
    7.00 Kempton - 2pts win Sceptred Isle @ 5/1
Favourite has to prove itself over the trip and I think the drop back in distance will suit this one. Has been racing handily in novice events over further and only being run down late on having raced freely on the front end. Has been beaten by good horses in those events so handicapping now off a fair mark looks a good move and looks certain to go forward from stall 1 and be tough to pass.
    8.00 Kempton - 2pts win Bird for Life @ 5/1
Consistent type who finishes off strongly including the last couple of times. One of those came here but in a grade higher and should find things easier back down to class 5. Looks like a couple of pace angles in here which will help and if timing it right, can hopefully get up late in the day.

    12.55 Exeter - 2pts win Kakamora @ 11/2
I don't think those with penalties are unbeatable here and the money for Tom George's runner is eyecatching after a lengthy break since winning an Irish point. The horse it beat that day has subsequently gone well in a good novice hurdle which bodes well for this one's chances and getting weight, could make a winning start with confidence clearly behind him.
    1.25 Exeter - 1pt e/w Honor Grey @ 9/1
Interesting race and I like Ben Pauling's runner so long as it's fully wound up today. Ran respectably in two soft ground bumpers when last seen but both of this one's full siblings went on to be graded class so I think there's more in the locker from this one. Outgunned in bumpers, this one looks sure to benefit from a stiffer stamina test and the extra 5f and stiff finish on hurdling debut will play to its strengths. Fitness taken on trust but is an each-way price in any case.
    1.40 Redcar - 1pt win General Joe @ 6/1
Was disappointing at Newcastle last time but has run some okay races and is coming down the handicap all the time. Shaped okay on softish ground at Ripon a few starts back in a better race than this off a higher mark and he went well with the blinkers applied at Wolverhampton two starts back. Will handle the ground, seems to stay the trip for all he weakened badly last time out and this is weak so will give him another chance.
    2.25 Exeter - 1pt e/w Not That Fuisse @ 13/2
The first three in the betting are having their first runs of the season and whilst holding chances, I think Not The Fuisse is arguably most likely to run to his mark. Does have to recover quickly from his run at Cheltenham but won readily at Perth on first start of the season and looked a huge threat at Cheltenham 10 days ago before failing to get the job done in a decent little race. On that evidence I think a stiff 2 miles will suit better than a stiff 2m4f and comes here in form and should be bang in the mix.
    3.25 Exeter - 1pt e/w Jersey Bean @ 9/1
Had been badly out of form until returning with blinkers applied this season, only going down late on at Uttoxeter before making all at Newton Abbot last time. Similar conditions today, the right-handed track suits his jumping style and can make this a bit of a test from the front if jumping well. Is race fit, in form and stays so with question marks over fitness and jumping in behind, could make them all go this afternoon.
    3.55 Exeter - 2pts win Airgead Suas @ 13/2
The favourite has so far been disappointing and not sure the second favourite will stay this testing 2m5f, whereas Airgead Suas will absolutely relish the step up in trip and stiff finish here. Has been staying on having been outpaced over shorter the last twice and this pointer should come into its own under these conditions. 13/2 looks a big price.

    1.10 Hereford - 2pts win Sign of War @ 9/2
Looks the one to be on here to me given he stays strongly, handles soft ground and wouldn't be the hardest ride for an amateur in this event. Shaped as if in need of the run over an insufficient 2m4f last time but will strip fitter today and take the beating back up in trip.
    1.40 Hereford - 1pt e/w Just The Man @ 12/1
Market not speaking in favour just yet but a really interesting recruit to hurdling as he's been running decent races in quite hot middle distance races on the flat and shapes as if he'll make a jumper. Two miles should be within range both on that evidence and pedigree and both of his parents handled soft going so an interesting runner at an each way price.
    2.30 Plumpton - 1pt e/w Brother Bennett @ 12/1
Horrible race but Brother Bennett has a fair bit of form around here and conditions won't faze him. Is an in and out type, which is not uncommon at this level, but on a going day could easily win this and should strip fitter for his recent outing. In a race where there are question marks about most, 12/1 represents a fair bit of a value to me.
    2.45 Hereford - 1pt e/w Holly James @ 10/1
Did little wrong over hurdles last year, ending the year in form and also is proven in soft ground and over this trip. Is a half sister to some decent chasers and her full brother ran well in a point so there's plenty of encouragement for a chasing career and this sphere might just see her unlock some further potential if she's fit enough on seasonal reappearance.
    2.55 Kempton - 1pt e/w Fantail @ 9/1
Headstrong sort but she shaped quite well last time out when I wanted to see her sent forward but she was restrained and stayed on without threatening late on. She's definitely got the ability to land this back on the all-weather where she's run well on both tries and if she's going to be restrained again then the step back up to a mile will suit.
    3.05 Plumpton - 2pts win Harefield @ 7/2
Looks the class act in the field off top weight and has only been backing out of races late on the last couple of runs. As such, the drop back to the minimum trip looks perfect, he's off a fair mark and taking on weaker opposition here so should be bang there at the finish.

    11.55 Wetherby - 1pt e/w One More Fleurie @ 10/1
Didn't show much on reappearance but may have needed that and it also came in a better race than this. Previously has shown some solid enough form before racing too freely over three miles in the mud at the back end of last year. With fitness on side and the drop back in trip a potential positive around here, can see a better effort this afternoon off a decent mark.
    12.35 Newmarket - 2pts win Alanmar @ 5/1
Has a good pedigree and is related to 5 decent winners with the majority scoring either on their first or second start so this one is likely to be forward and William Haggas' are usually good to go on debut. Has plenty of soft ground horses in its pedigree too so lots to like on debut here at a backable price.
    12.50 Uttoxeter - 1pt e/w Everything Now @ 28/1
The favourite is the likely winner if good to go but I think Everything Now has sound each-way hopes here. Was green on debut in a bumper but shaped well at a big price after a long absence last time out over hurdles, finishing midfield but not beaten a million miles considering it was his debut over jumps after a long absence. Also will certainly want further than two miles and this extra half mile will suit. He's a half brother to three jumpers all rated 20-30lbs higher than him so definite scope for improvement and his relatives stay so two miles was never likely to suit.
    2.10 Wetherby - 1pt e/w Louis Vac Pouch @ 10/1
Bit in an out in his career to date but showed some good novice chase form and also ran well in a big handicap chase at the Cheltenham festival earlier in the year too. Much of his racing has come over shorter than ideal or in novice races against good horses so I think there's some scope off this mark in a handicap with conditions in his favour. Jumping will need to hold up but has the benefit of a recent run and that could help him against some types returning from absences today.
    2.55 Newmarket - 2pts win Hawridge Flyer @ 7/1
Runs this track well and runs off the same mark as when fighting out the finish with Berrahri here a few starts back. The pair were 7 lengths clear and this one has had excuses since - running in a hot race here on good ground and then hampered over a shorter than ideal 1m2f trip last time out. Returns to ideal conditions in terms of track, trip and ground now and looks to hold a real chance this afternoon.
    3.30 Newmarket - 2pts win Awake My Soul @ 9/2
Is getting on a bit now but still in good heart and the race wasn't quite ideal at Pontefract last time. Got outpaced on the home turn as can happen there and those in front tend to get away from you, as they did that day. This long straight should play more to his strengths and he's clearly still in decent form so in a winnable race looks worthy of a bet.

Got outpaced on the home turn as can happen there and those in front tend to get away from you, as they did that day. This long straight should play more to his strengths and he's clearly still in decent form so in a winnable race looks worthy of a bet.

Looks a live each-way player to me having run okay on debut at Kempton over 6f. That race was full of horses with experience including a couple rated around the 80 mark and wasn't beaten far by them. William Knight wouldn't have many first time out winners and this horse's pedigree contains quite a bit of stamina so 6f was always likely to catch it out on debut. Up to 7f today with that experience under its bet, can expect more now.
    2.06 Stratford - 1pt e/w Generous Day @ 14/1
Form dipped a bit at the end of last season but had excuses on those efforts and has back form which would give him a big chance in this race. Is used to running in better races than this and conditions suit on seasonal reappearance. Has run well fresh a few times before and has had a wind op since he was last seen so freshened up, could go close if on a going day.
    2.36 Stratford - 1pt e/w White Walker @ 25/1
Big price for a Skelton horse but I thought he had a chance here at an each-way price. Ran well on debut in a big field bumper and shaped better than the bare result both in its subsequent race on heavy ground and then on hurdling debut after a lengthy absence. Shaped as if in need of the run that day and should improve for this. Conditions should suit, he's a half brother to the decent jumper Bandsman and I think there's more in the tank from this one.
    3.45 Lingfield - 1pt e/w Domino Darling @ 7/1
Doesn't quite have the form in the book yet but that's largely down to the fact that she hasn't had her conditions. Is bred to stay well so the step up in trip here is certain to suit and her effort when beaten 4 lengths in a listed event when last seen is decent enough considering she will certainly be best over further.

    1.02 Fakenham - 1pt e/w Rock The House @ 25/1
This one is the yard's second string here but I think he's capable of running better than a 25/1 shot after a couple of promising efforts in bumpers. Traded as low as 2/1 in the run despite being sent off at 20/1 on debut, just fading late on and shaped as if in need of the run when returning recently - not beaten too far having made the running. Should strip fitter now and his only half-sibling is a 134-rated jumper so there's hope in the pedigree too and all in all I just think 25s is a bit big.
    1.15 Nottingham - 1pt e/w So I Told You @ 10/1
Headstrong sort but does have plenty of ability and definitely it's the right move to bring him back down to a mile after some efforts over middle distances. Still pulled his chance away at Windsor last time under similar conditions to these but that was a small field affair and there's optimism that a better gallop today will help him settle a bit better and less demanding ground can help conserve enough energy for the business end. Big price if he can put it all together today.
    1.40 Taunton - 1pt e/w Solstalla @ 18/1
Seems a big price considering she won really well two starts back and suffered a cut to her leg last time out. She's run well on all previous visits to Taunton and whilst not thrown in at the weights, looks capable of bouncing back under ideal conditions so long as there's no lasting damage.
    2.02 Fakenham - 1pt e/w Talking About You @ 20/1
Appreciate he has a penalty to carry here but the drift out to 20/1 seems huge if he's good to go here. He's nothing special but knows his job and has hacked up in a juvenile hurdle already in his career. Did the donkey work for a couple of good horses two starts back and was bogged down in soft conditions last time having raced keenly on the front end. That's how he races but he'll know his job here more than a lot of his rivals, he's likely to jump off in front, the better ground suits and if there's a track for a free-racing front runner, it's Fakenham, so 20/1 looks huge if a little disconcerting.
    2.20 Nottingham - 2pts win Show Palace @ 11/2
Surely today is the day for Show Palace. Been threatening to win all season but a combination of being chinned late on, not having any sort of run, injuring his leg and coughing in its last four runs have stopped him from doing so. Has dropped another couple of pounds in the handicap. has absolutely perfect conditions here and so long as he's not still suffering from any of those ailments, should go very close indeed.
    2.40 Taunton - 1pt e/w Comeragh Lad @ 66/1
This is a poor race and whilst not showing a great deal at Exeter last time, Comeragh Lad is bred to stay and that was evidenced in some fair runs in the point to points over 3 miles. Wasn't beaten a million miles over 2m2f on its run over hurdles and now goes handicapping off a lowly mark up in trip which promises to suit. In a weak race I thought he had some scope to improve for the stamina test and is worth a quid at huge odds.

Weak race but this one is a bumper winner and showed glimmers in novice hurdles last season. Wasn't disgraced in his two most recent outings with the form of those races suggesting this mark isn't beyond him now going chasing. From a family of better jumpers than him so there's good reason to believe there's a bit more to come and Toubougg's progeny have a decent record over fences with around a third of those who've run in this sphere having recorded a win.
    1.10 Catterick - 1pt e/w Astrophysics @ 10/1
I think this one is well overpriced today for all he can be a bit in and out. Never showed last time but has put in numerous solid runs under similar conditions to today including off higher marks earlier this season and this is a significant drop in class here. Is drawn wide which will turn into a positive assuming they come down the stands side in these conditions and if on a going day, will make 10/1 look a bit daft.
    1.30 Bangor - 1pt win Megalodon @ 6/1
Has been a bit in and out in its career to date but won a handicap hurdle last season and ended the campaign in decent form. Didn't learn a lot last time in a novice chase he had no chance of winning when sent off at 200/1 but that will have blown away the cobwebs and at least he showed he can jump a fence no problem. With that under his belt going back into a handicap I think he's a big chance so long as he doesn't get too far behind.
    3.05 Bangor - 1pt e/w Jennys Day @ 11/1
This one has plenty of form in the book and crucially conditions are no problem here as it stays further and also handles give in the ground (heavy ground winner in the past). Weakened out of it when last seen but that was after a mammoth absence and it went well to a point that day. Has been off since but for nowhere near as long and has gone well fresh previously. Yard in decent nick with their last runner going in at the weekend and I think this one has sound hopes here.
    3.15 Catterick - 1pt e/w Quick Look @ 28/1
Ran no race out wide over 5f at Pontefract last time but this horse hasn't gone through a prolonged period of poor form in his career ever so it's not impossible he'll bounce back and was running crackers off higher marks earlier in the season under similar conditions to today. His best form has come over 6f with give in the ground at quite easy tracks so Hamilton and Pontefract maybe not perfect the last twice either and this looks a bit easier so as outsider of the field, is worth chancing.
    3.40 Bangor - 3pts win Java Point @ 4/1
Kim Bailey's horses are bang in form and this one looks an ideal candidate to keep that going today. Is back after a break but has gone well fresh before and is handicapping up in trip after some very promising runs in 2 mile novice hurdles. Won a soft ground point over 3 miles and is bred to get further than this so that's a huge plus and looks fairly handicapped when staying on behind some nice types recently. So long as he's fit enough, should take the world of beating today.

    12.20 Leicester - 1pt e/w Bannergirl @ 9/1
I backed this at huge odds at Kempton a couple of starts back but she zoomed up from the rear to dispute mid-race over a mile and dropped out. That said, she bounced back with a good run, staying on powerfully late on over 6f at Windsor when last seen and these conditions - 7f on heavy ground - could well see the best in her. Definite ability and having proved herself under similar conditions, can go well today.
    1.40 Ayr - 1pt e/w King of Fashion @ 40/1
Once upon a time was quite a useful type but has gone off the boil in recent times. That said, it's had an impact on his handicap mark and he hasn't been completely disgraced in decent hurdle races. He doesn't seem to stay three miles particularly strongly yet has exclusively been run over that far for a long time and I think the step back to 2m4f on chase debut can suit. He did win over 3 miles over hurdles but that came in a small, weak novice event when he was sent off at 4/9 which I don't think told us a lot about his stamina. Has had a wind op and at the age of 10 shouldn't have totally regressed so will give a chance today.
    2.35 Redcar - 2pts win King Carney @ 6/1
Ran a really good race behind Tempus a couple of starts back, galloping on relentlessly from the front and I was surprised that he was held up in the Cambridgeshire and never involved. That said, conditions suit here, a smaller field can see him revert to those prominent tactics, he loves soft ground and it could be tricky picking them up from off the pace given conditions and I hope he can get out handy and keep rolling.
    3.00 Redcar - 1pt e/w Sunset Katie @ 40/1
Goes handicapping after an couple of half-decent efforts over 7f and should improve for the drop back to 6f here. Wasn't disgraced on either of her last two runs when unlikely to cause much of a threat given her fairly modest ability but this will be easier, has shown enough speed to suggest the drop back in trip can suit, has blinkers on first time and the sire didn't mind a bit of cut so conditions potentially no problem either so worth a go at a big price.
    3.35 Redcar - 1pt e/w Day Job @ 20/1
Ran okay in a few turf starts earlier in the season when not quite having the required pace to get involved and it was a similar story at Wolverhampton last time. That said, would have a chance on those early efforts now handicapping and the soft ground could help him lie up with the pace today. His sire didn't mind cut in the ground and now back on turf, could bounce back under these conditions after a break.
    4.10 Redcar - 2pts win Wots The Wifi Code @ 9/2
Consistent type and can get a deserved win here. Was flying home having been outpaced at Pontefract last time, getting up for second, and this straight track can help him today. Soft ground suits, a good pace is likely here with a big field and should be storming home late in the day to get up.
