Plenty of Group race action on Wednesday at Caulfield and 2 races make betting appeal.
    R2 (4am)
The Coongy Cup is the last chance for a horse to get themselves a place in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday. Al Galayel and Django Freeman are the 2 horses still entered on Saturday and I like the former. He has won 3 on the bounce now and was especially impressive when winning the JRA Cup by just over 2L at Moonee Valley last month. He beat a good field over course and distance the time before and if he carries that form on then I think he wins this again.
    Al Galayel @ 8/5 with Bet365
    R5 (5.45am)
Saracen Knight is an ex-Irish horse who didn't see a racecourse for 2 years when going to Australia and he ran a solid race 1st up over 1600m at Moonee Valley. He then went up to 2000m and finished his race off well to win here at the end of last month. He goes up to 2400m here and given his form in Ireland that should suit him so there is every chance there is more to come 3rd up and up in trip.
I do want Masaff onside as well. His last run in Victoria he was 2nd to Chapada at Flemington over 2500m in June which is clearly good form. After that he went back to Sydney and has run 3 times since August 22nd all over shorter trips. I think all 3 runs had credit and clearly going up to this sort of trip is going to suit and he looks over priced to me here.
    Saracen Knight @ 9/5 with Bet365
Masaff @ 15/2 with William Hill

It is the Cranbourne Cup tomorrow morning at 6.50 and I think it is worth backing a couple at big prices in a competitive race. I am surprised Future Score is 20/1 with Bet365. I thought he ran really well 1st up and stepping up to this trip is ideal. He has an e/w chance as does Aristia who won the VRC Oaks a couple of years ago. She has some decent form at a higher level than this and I think 2000m will suit better than the shorter trips she has been running over. Last time she ran well enough in a G2 over 1600m and I like the 3rd the time before. She is a 16/1 chance. Plein Ciel and Polly Grey are consistent but find winning hard. Shot Of Irish would prefer cut in the ground whilst last year's winner Dr Drill was lame last time and is capable of bouncing back.   Future Score @ 20/1 win & 4/1 place with Bet365 Aristia @ 16/1 win & 100/30 place with Bet365

The top class racing continues in Australia with more Group 1 action at Caulfield and Randwick.
    Caulfield R2 (2.50am)
Swats That is the pick here. He was 2nd to September Rain two starts back and that one was impressive in winning last week. Swats That also won himself last time and I think he will be hard to beat here.
Swats That @ 7/5 with Paddy Power
    Caulfield R3 (3.25am)
Windstorm finally got his win in Victoria last time and I think he can go from that here especially with a bit of cut in the ground.
    Windstorm @ 11/10 with Bet365
    Caulfield R5 (4.35am)
Diamond Effect won a G3 over course and distance 2 back and then found himself to far back in the G1 Moir Stakes at The Valley last time. He didn't get a clear run until late on, but still finished his race off well and down in grade back to this course and distance I think he can win again.
Diamond Effect @ 14/5 with Diamond Effort
    Caulfield R8 (6.30am)
The big race of the card and I am going to put up the horse who did us a big favour when winning last time Ole Kirk. Granted Rothfire's injury helped, but he would have gone close anyway and he showed a great attitude in winning. I think the step up to 1600m is what he needs now and the Sydney 3yo form looks to be stronger than the Melbourne 3yo form. In my view he has the best form in the race.
    Ole Kirk @ 13/5 with Bet365
    Caulfield R9 (7.10am)
Another G1 here and I am going with Cascadian e/w. He will need a bit of luck as he comes from behind, but he's been running as if he needs a step up to this trip. He got no luck at all last time so you can ignore his 11th and he was eye catching in the Memsie the time before. His form looks strong, he looks over priced and hopefully the gaps open when needed.
    Cascadian e/w @ 10/1 with William Hill
    Caulfield R10 (7.45am)
Orderofthegarter runs here which is slightly odd given it is the Caulfield Cup next week which he is favourite for. He is a warm favourite here, but I am going to take a chance with a couple at bigger odds. Chapada was 2nd to the fav last time and has a chance of reversing the form at these weights. That was his 1st run since July so he should come on for that as well. I am also backing my old favourite Gallic Chieftain. He finished his race off very well last time recording a speedy last 200m. He is 3rd up and he tends to peak 3rd up as well. He does have a bit of ground to make up on the other pick and the fav, but the way he finished suggests he is building up to his peak fitness.
    Chapada @ 11/2 with Bet365
Gallic Chieftain e/w @ 12/1 with William Hill
    Randwick R3 (4.20am)
Just the one in Sydney and I like Criaderas here. He found himself way too far back last time and flew home to finish 3rd which was backed up by the sectionals. He clearly has a great turn of foot and although he is up in grade I think he is up to it. With a smaller field he shouldn't find himself quite so far back this time.
Criaderas @ 6/5 with William Hill

I understand that last point, but I am pretty certain he would want everyone to carry on as normal. He clearly loved this place and when the rest of us had a conference call earlier I think it properly dawned on us how much he actually did. He was keen for the place to continue to thrive after Paul left us and he would want the same now. He may be gone, but he certainly won't be forgotten. Certainly in the short term I will try and replace him in the horse section so if anyone has any questions etc then don't be afraid to ask.

Graham had been on this forum for so long none of us could find out when he started. As people have said although Paul was the owner of Punters Lounge, Graham was for most the face of it given the amount of things he did on this forum. He told me recently that he was planning to move to the Scottish Highlands for a quieter life and it is a great shame that has been taken away from him.
Naturally his shoes are going to take some filling and we aren't quite sure how we are going to do that just yet especially as it has been such a big shock.
