Norrie losing yesterday was somewhat of a surprise, after being 2 sets up. His famed fitness was not evident in the 5th set where he got crushed,

    1 bet with 4 legs

Avanesyan  v Zhu  1.37   . Avanesyan is solid, and her ability to solve in game problems is very good. Comfortable here, probably covers the 4.5 game handicap as well.

Kasatkina Frech  win in 2 sets  1.72   . This is the slightly risky leg of the bet, but Kasatkina definitely has the pedigree.

Zheng v Cornet  2 sets   1.33  . Cornet is done. Just another leg of the farewell tour. This will be a 1 sided beating.

Badosa v Boulter 1.28  .  Straight win for Badosa here. Seems to be getting over the injuries, and has too much clay court ability here.

    probably gives 2.2 to 1

Norrie wasn't two sets up. He lost from 2-1 ahead so losing from that position is obviously less surprising although of course he was supposed to win. I agree about Avanesyan and Boulter, but I'm less convinced about Cornet. I wouldn't be in normal circumstances because as you suggest Cornet has looked shot the last few months, but there will be a raucous and partisan crowd cheering her on and I don't think Qinwen will enjoy an environment like that - think Simon almost being carried to victory by the crowd against Carreno Busta when he was playing his last French. As for Kasatkina, it's risky enough just to back her to win regardless of the odds.

Seems like the tournament is continuing. Scheffler has got himself back in the mix at four back, which is a pretty big number but not for him if he gets his scoring boots on. He's marginal second favourite at 2.47 on the exchanges and that's where my money's going. He's the best golfer in the world right now so chasing down Riley shouldn't be beyond him.

I'm writing this off already. Scheffler three over through ten holes. I'm not watching so not sure what the issue is, but that's a remarkable score.

Actually,Djokovic was very disappointed with his game yesterday. I read the Serbian newspaper this morning (obviosly i'm from Serbia) with an interview with Novak where he stated that he doesn't even know how he won the second set.
Also,he said that is very hard to focus on tennis with other things on his mind.

He's definitely not satisfied with his game or with his form entering in RG. So,i wouldn't say that Novak tanked the match yesterday.

That's interesting @DrO Perhaps it's fairer to say he wasn't that bothered about winning. I've read in a few different places that it was a good decision for him to play a few more matches ahead of the FO, but I'm not convinced. If anything there are now even more question marks about him than there were already and that includes Djokovic questioning himself as you alluded to.

This comment is relevant to both the French Open and the still ongoing Geneva tournament. Ruud's semi vs Cobolli has been delayed til tomorrow morning and as of now he is scheduled to play his first round match in Paris on Sunday morning. Am just wondering is he really going to fancy it. 🤔

We saw Djokovic giving a very poor effort in the third set today after blitzing Machac in the second set. I'd say it's highly likely he strategically decided not to play his best in that final set so as to be somewhat fresh for Roland Garros. If Ruud wins tomorrow morning I think he would have to play the final later that day, if I'm not mistaken? Considering he's a contender for French Open, I would be somewhat surprised if he fancys playing two matches one after the other pretty much, just before Roland Garros. With that in mind, a small speculative bet on Cobolli might be worth a go, and perhaps a couple of quid on Machac for the title, as he'll be have had significantly more rest time than his opponent.

Can't argue with that thought process at all. Djokovic tanked without a shadow of a doubt - being broken from 40-0 at the end confirmed it for me - whether Ruud will or not I'm not so sure, but it's got to be possible. The only thing I would say is that Ruud has been in the routine the last couple of years of winning in the week before the French, and so he might want to try to continue with that despite the possible time constraints.

Yes, you're 100% right on this - I just checked my Betfair Exchange account.

They paid out on Finau Top 20 at a price of 2.7 (equivalent of 13/8 and 7/4) when the orignal price was 7/2.

That's interesting @philipwalsh19 I'll need to aftertime so apologies, but I had five players in the top 20 on the exchanges and the prices I took were the prices I was paid out on.

Fair enough either way, you'd be more than welcome given your ability to be selective. By "fun" I meant not tilting at a huge win, though we're still trying to be selective. For those who are active GHers it's about choosing which bet is strong enough for that thread, for me it's a way of keeping my hand in with the picking the occasional value shortie.

    There's no time pressure involved.

I think that's the key - being selective. It's difficult to know who is able to do that and who isn't, which makes a collaborative approach problematic.

  8. I like the idea in principle @harry_rag but for me you've got no chance if you're thinking in terms of fun - you end up putting something up that you wouldn't do if there was a lot of your own money behind it.

It's extremely hard to roll over short odds bets - something which this thread is ample proof of - and that's one of the reasons I've stuck with using this thread, warts and all, rather than washing away the sins of the losers with a new thread after each loser. Anybody that looks at this thread from the start can see just how hard it is and how often 'banker' bets lose.

Schauffele looking good and I'll be on him with a round to go. He's 2.02 on the exchanges - once commission is accounted for - and that looks good to me with a one shot lead. I don't think there's a thread for the Myrtle Beach tournament - apologies if I've missed it - so I'll put my pick here and that's Gotterup. Four shots clear and available at 1.73 - again that's on the exchanges and the price quoted is what it would be if there were no commission to pay. Win or lose, yes please - that's a value price.

Schauffele was looking good two shots clear at -13 under, then McIlroy turned on the burners and ran away with it. Gotterup was a comfortable enough winner after a slow start.

Went with Schauffele and hovland for me, took hovland over cantlay.

1st round leaders hoge and young.

Took a few small lucky dips, actually ended up half decent bets. Speith, Fleetwood, burns and Bradley.

Dad has went clark and harman.
