On to the next match then and Humphries throws first. With that in mind I'll take him to win the first set and get the most 180's in the set at 2.62 with 365.

What could have been a 2-0 lead to Cross if not for poor doubling has turned into a procession for Littler. It's difficult to argue with it though - ahead in every metric that counts. 100s, 140s, 180s, checkout %, high checkout and average. You wouldn't have thought it was possible but playing like this Littler just might win the whole thing.

Cross to win and get most 100+ checkouts is up at 6.00 now. I'll have some of that as well.

I actually think cross will win with a few spare once he takes hold of the match
May well do @Fader but also it might look more like the Dobey match. Littler could get off to a fast start and then get reeled in by the more experienced player. As you suggested the other day, Littler's not been tested and he is 16. This has the potential to be a long match and that's where he's not been tested yet.

Completely agree about Cross being undervalued and so I'm on him to win the first set and hit the most 180's in the first set at 6.00 and also for him to win the match 6-5 at 8.50. In the later match, Humphries really should come through and it'll be just typical if the one time I think he should win he fails to do so after I've been against him in all the other matches that he's won. As @daveg alluded to there's not much to go at as the prices on him are skinny, so I'll just back him to win 6-4 at 8.00. If Williams keeps up the high outshots that'll put Humphries under pressure and could keep things relatively close.
-
Bye bye Chisnall. You can't score like that and expect to get anywhere.

Humphries for me.
Guarantees someone will be happy

I'll also try Chisnall to win and hit most 180's at 6.00 with 365.
-
That ratchets the pressure right up on Humphries. I give Chisnall a better chance of winning now so I'm backing him to win on the exchanges at 3.15.

Got to give Williams all the credit there. Thoroughly deserved. Outscored and outdoubled MVG there.

I think Dolan to win and most 100+ checkout is definitely worth a bet
18/1
Watch that sail in now I've left it

Nice to start with a winner. Next I'll back Littler to hit Over 11.5 180's at 2.87. In this longer format and as I think Dolan can push him - he's beaten Price and Anderson already after all - I can see at least 7 sets and maybe more and that should give plenty of opportunity for a few 180's to be scored. I'm also severely tempted to back Dolan to win with the high checkout and also to win with the most 100+ checkouts, but the odds of 12.00 and 21.00 are where they are for a reason so I'll pass.

I wouldn’t call him rubbish on hard or clay but surely grass... Thiem should have the edge here
I can't give Thiem the edge against anyone these days. He was poor in the last round and if Nadal comes back in any shape at all I reckon he wins.

Good luck everyone for the new season
Most fascinating clash for me this first week is Ruse v Raducanu (WTA Auckland)
Was hoping for odds against on the Romanian, but missed the opening 2.1, now she is generally odds on
Any thoughts on the match?
Impossible to know how Raducanu will look and Ruse isn't the most reliable player either. At odds against Ruse might be worth backing - not so sure if she's odds on but really with all the other matches going on I'd be looking to bet elsewhere.

You don't go out there to gradually get better but you do see it alot in tournaments where a player gradually improves to win a tournament.
Absolutely. Can't argue with that at all. All I'm saying is you hear talk like a slow start is good and building your level up is good like that's a virtue and it clearly isn't. If Humphries could have chosen to get through the early rounds the way he has or the way MVG has I'm pretty sure he'd be wanting to do it like MVG did.
-
Nor do I believe in the idea you want to improve as a tournament goes along. Any player would want to be on it from the start and play the best they can all the time. That's very difficult to do and so a narrative is spun whereby it's desirable to be at a lower level earlier in a tournament and that has to be nonsense.

MVG hasn't been tested because he's scored and doubled well. He's comfortable here. I don't go in for the line you always hear about you want to be tested and if you haven't been it's a negative.

If this was any event but the worlds then I would say Humpries wins it.
That's pretty much my thought process in a sentence. As you say things have been missing from his game and there has to be a reason for that and most likely it's the occasion getting to him. He'd be better off treating it like a minor tournament that isn't important.

this is the thing. You see him do some silly stuff sometimes but when it really matters he gets the job done. He has that champion quality when it matters. He beats Chizzy for me.
He probably will be beat Chizzy but for me that's not saying much. He often goes AWOL doesn't he. A little more composure from either Pikachu or Cullen and Humphries would be out. I'll stick to my guns and say Humphries isn't winning this tournament. You can only go to the well of turning defeat into victory so many times.

Credit to Humphries but he's had some help these last two rounds. Talking of near misses, Cullen went ahead in the final set with the first 100+ checkout of the match. At that point, I thought I might hit the 10/1 for the win and most 100+ checkouts but it wasn't to be.

lol, no, he's 7/2. I personaly can't see him beating MVG in a big final. If he got to the final.
bottom line, if he can produce 105 every round then he wins the title. However, can he do that in a final against MVG? at 16? if he does, that's just non-human level of bottle
Not to mention that MVG is quite capable of 105 or more himself.
