Yeah !........jump racing is back.......
Novice chase over around 20F
We've got an obvious favourite here, Keltus,  with Nicholls and Sam T-D travelling all the way to Hexham for one runner. You'd think it would have to be nailed on
However.......I'm really not sure if he's a natural chaser. He appears not to have a great deal of inherent stamina and he's not been a good jumper in his 4 chases to date. These fences are easy so he might get away with the jumping but the stamina worries me.......particularly with the stiff uphill finish. I'm just not sure he's going to get home
My selection, in any case, is rated higher than Keltus, is a course winner over hurdles, and has also won at Carlisle, another stiff finish. He's finished a close up 2nd in his last 2 chases, acts on the going and his usual rider gets 5lbs

To be honest I don't normally take a lot of notice of the Punchestown Festival........it comes after Cheltenham and Aintree and seems like a bit of an afterthought
But I still haven't got that interested in the Flat this year yet so think I'll watch it this year........well make sure I catch the Grade One races

I might look to this strategy a bit more often where you have two 'obvious' ones that are both odds against

Yea, first thing I did on realising this meeting was today was to look for Stack's runners.......he's only got 2, one in each of the last 2 races. I'll see how they get on

I also used to get excited about the opening 2yo maiden.......the first 2yo race of the season. Even so it has a good record of throwing up good horses who go on to run in group races. Dawn Approach won it in 2012

A few years ago when I used to concentrate on the higher end Flat races I used to get unfeasibly excited by the Park Express Stakes (group 3)........I'd make big notes on all the runners, past trends, think about how to record info about the race and the horses that ran in it..........with the intention of doing the same for all group races
That used to last two or three weeks until I realised how much time and work was involved, then I'd give up..........

Novice hurdler
With Authorised Too a NR there's only 3 here in single figures in the market so going for one of the outsiders you need fingers crossed a bit that one or two of them underperform. A couple of them have penalties, a couple haven't run for 3/4 months, and a couple have RPR form that is only a couple of pounds better than my selection.........so there's a hope ! Plus of course there's the usual chaos and bad luck to figure in
My selection won a Point very impressively on good ground last September. Has shown promise in 2 hurdle runs but probably not suited by soft ground. Reappears now that the ground had got better and hopefully can fulfill some of his promise. Does look to be a bit of a stayer so it would help if they went quickly and he could be running on past tiring horses at the finish
