  1. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Tables ~ May 2012

BH I've just spotted a very small mistake with mine and your totals. I was wondering how many people had posted everyday and I have no idea why I was even thinking about it but I then realised there's only been 148 days so far this year but both of our totals show 149 bets. Not sure where it jumped 1 and sorry for pointing out such ridiculously trivial things!!
Have you taken the Leap Year day into account, wizz ?
  2. Re: I found this, care to elaborate?

Trotter' date=' I hope you have a high win rate or are playing with high-ish stake because if I was spending 4-5 hours on a 16 runner card, I'd be pissed if I lost! ;)[/quote'] That's my point.........I don't study those races because they would take too long I study 5/6 runner races in the main, maybe up to 8/9 if there's a couple no hopers I can discount.........:rollin If i ever have an EW bet or put one up in the comps from a 16 runner race it's a safe bet that I haven't studied the form but have picked a selection besed on whim, fancy, something that's stuck in my mind.....that kind of thing.
  3. Re: racing post trouble This has reminded me............I'm on Virgin and had a similar problem about 5 years ago where I couldn't get on a forum I was using Fortunately someone had set up an emergency other forum for when people were having problems with the main forum and via that I got in toiuch with the mods They said it was a Virgin problem to do with updating caches and to use a DNS server That was all double dutch to me but it worked..........and the problem at Virgin was sorted out in a couple of days So don't do anything rash Richard if you're basically happy with your VM servies - it might just be a once in a decade problem

  4. Re: bbotd friday 4.30 Yarm - Imaginary World - win at 8/1 bog bet365 Has a pretty poor strike rate but lots in her favour today - trip and going fine, back down to last winning mark and takes a big drop in class from her last run in a hot Newmarket handicap

  5. Re: I found this, care to elaborate? I said earlier that I tend to bet in small field races........... My argument for this revolves around the way I do things - I tend to need 15 minutes or 20 minutes per horse to study a race. An 8 runner race is going to take me 2 hours or more - a 16 runner race is going to take me 4 or 5 hours, ie all night............. That's basically it..........I certainly do make selections in big field races for various competitions for which I don't spend the same time studying as I do for bets I also think there's something in Jay's approach as it pretty much ignores the market and is 'chaotic' in that it works outside of the normal rules by focussing on things that most punters don't take into account

  6. Re: I found this, care to elaborate? Well.........the general idea is to avoid races where either there are unknown factors or too many runners Field Size - I rarely bet in races with more than about 8 or 9 runners ........obviously if there are only 7 runners you have a better chance of finding a winner than you would have if there are 28 runners and it only takes a quarter of the time to study the form. Unexposed horses - If you have a 10 runner race and 6 of them have never run or only run once or twice then you're dealing with unknowns - you don't know how good they are, you don't know what their best distance, going etc is Hunter Chases are likely to have runners who'#s form is in Point-to-Point racing and it's difficult to assess how good they are unless you really specialise in that field All the other relate to races for amateur or inexperienced jockeys - again the argument is that you don't know if the jockey is any good Basically it's about race selection - you're faced with 30-odd races on a typical day. Your big advantage is that you can pick which ones to bet in and which ones to leave alone. Whoever wrote the list is suggesting some 'rules' which you might use to decide which races to avoid

  7. Re: BBOTD Friday 18th Newb 2.10 - Gold Show - ew at 33/1 bog Wm Hill Listed race here which is an Oaks trial and some well bred, lightly raced types lining up With some making their seasonal debuts and others being unprovan on soft ground I'm going to take a chance on Mick Channon's outsider She's only had the one run but it was promising, running 4th behind decent colts in a race won by Noble Mission, who looks Derby bound. That was over a mile and she sat at the rear of the field until making late progress and staying on well in the final furlong. Back against fillies and with a couple of extra furlongs I can see her putting up an improved performance. Mick Channon has a reputation as a trainer who's horses come on a lot for their first run Main worry - 8 runners, bound to be a non runner............:@

  8. Re: Anyone a racing post member??

They gave us free heroin for a few years and now we're hooked on the stuff ' date=' we have to pay them !![/quote'] I gave up smoking 3 months ago after more than 40 years on the weed........I reckon i could give up the RP ! Something very strange has happened since I signed up to the membership subscription.....I've stopped studying form !..........:unsure I've still had the occasional bet (been doing yankees - I only ever did singles when I was studying form) and I'm still putting stuff up on BBotD but I'm selecting just from the racecard and comments (and more often than not that means selecting losers) You know that saying, the harder I work the luckier I get...............well, my form has really slumped since I stopped working on the selections I think that having all those ratings and race analysis at your fingertips has made me lazy..............I just look at that stuff instead of studying each horse in the race as I used to do As soon as i get round to figuring out an alternative for keeping my speed ratings, I'm sorely tempted to cancel my subscription and just go back to having the basic facts of form in the hope that that wil force me out of the lethargy and make me put the hours in again.................. I still prefer the Post horse form pages and I could go back to the previous set up by just not logging in............I might try that for a month and see if I really miss all those 'extras', if not I'll cancel
  9. Re: Anyone a racing post member?? I might have posted this before on a different thread but I've just noticed it again........ I'm not logged in at the RP site but just popped in there to have a look at the French Guineas fields this afternoon...............click on the racecard and up comes the page for subscribing to Membership So it seems that overseas racecards are now no longer available without subscription That just strikes me as being petty and showing a desperation to find things to charge for.

  10. Re: Anyone a racing post member?? I just joined the £13 a month membership a couple of months ago There's nothing in it that wasn't free a few years ago, it's just every few months they take something else off the free site and make it members only So the kind of things that are now Members Only that used to be free are - Racing Post ratings, Topspeed Ratings, Post Race Anaysis on race results pages, Spotlight comments on racecard, some info like Postdata, Previous Winners of the Race, The Betting Forecast available the night before, etc Things relating to Sires and Bloodstock are Members Only Personally I could manage fine without all that stuff but I've got years of my own ratings stored on the RP site and when they made My Ratings a members only thing a couple of months ago I felt forced to pay up I definitely wouldn't join the more expensive membership as I'm not interested in what they're tipping (the tipping columns are on the more expensive membership) and the video replays are all available for free on the ATR and Sporting Life sites

  11. Re: BBOTD 12th May Ling 3.10 - Goldoni - ew at 12/1 Stan James Probably not one of the sexier ones in this Derby trial but he has some decent form in the book having already won the Derby Trial at Epsom Looks a stayer so would probably have had a better chance if they'd run on soft turf but he does handle any going. Hopefully there'll be a decent pace on and it will be a test of stamina. He can front run himself if nobody takes it up Gosden and lanigan's horses are the market leaders and appear to be lightly raced types with lots of potential but I'll stick with the horse with provan form Goldoni is a gelding and therefore ineligible for the Derby - there's no worry that he's being run to bring him on for the big one. These Trials are his big ones !

  12. Re: BBOTD Friday 11th of May Ling 2.45 - Best be careful - win at 7/2 bog PP sprint handicapper had a good season last year winning 3 handicaps makes seasonal debut today and won on her seasonal debut last year yard in terrific form with 2 winners and a 2nd from 3 runners on the flat this month

  13. Re: Ascot card !? Not sure what happened there bowles but I've closed the other 2 threads...... It's a bit of a shame about the Ascot but they did lose a meeting last week so i guess they were desperate to get something on...............

  14. Re: Racing Post I suspect that over say 5 years they'll stop printing the paper and just make the whole site subscription only They've got to make money somehow to cover staff costs etc and I don't know if advertising to a small (though dedicated) readership would cover it. I mean a lot of the ads are for Sires......how many of the readers of the site are that interested in having a Sire advertised at them There must come a point with falling sales when it just doesn't make sense to print a newspaper every day

  15. Re: Racing Post I've only subscribed since the last 'upgrade'..........ie the last time they removed a pile of stuff from the free site a month or two ago I don't know if it's connected but my own form has gone to pot since I subscribed I can't seem to cope with the information overload caused by RPR, topspeed, Race Analysis, Spolight comments............yet i can't ignore all this information because it's there I'm tempted to give up my subscription as well and just go back to the basic database Only trouble is that if i did that I wouldn't be able to store my speed ratings which have been the basis of my success for the last 2/3 years.............and presumably the database itself is only on the free service temporarily until they get round to charging for it

  16. Re: BBOTD Monday 7th of May Kemp 2.15 - Dinner Date - EW at 14/1 bog bet365 Found myself drifting towards picking short price favourites lately and i want to shake myself out of it so thought I'd go for a few EW shots Dinner Date is having his 4th run back from a year off and has got nearer to winning with each run, beaten 15, 5 and 4 lengths, gradually running into form Drops in class today having competed in 3 class 5 handicaps this year and down to class 6. Hasn't run in a class 6 on polytrack for 3 years and 21 runs (he won that class 6) Down 9 lbs in the weights over his 3 runs this season including another 2 lbs since last time Likes the track with 8 wins here, probably better at a mile but has won over this 10 furlongs

  17. Re: Being an Owner: How does it pay?

If I owned todays 1000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen and i thought it had a chance I'd go for the Epsom Derby next as oposed to the Oaks . Last years Derby winner earned more than 3 times what the Oaks winner did. An extra 1/2 million £ would come in very handy for me.
I'm surprised that more fillies don't run in the colts classics Was it Salsabil won the Irish Derby ?.......that's the only one I can think of In this case Homecoming Queen is owned by Coolmore so they're not going to jeopardise a multi-million stud career for Camelot by having one of their fillies pip him for the Derby...... But in general I agree that under normal circumstances more owners could run fillies just for the prize money
