  1. Re: BBOTD Friday 13th of April Aintree 2.30 - Silviniaco Conti - win at 7/4 bluesquare Bypassed cheltenham to be fresh for this His second to grand crus in the Feltham is probably the best bit of 3 mile form on offer, the ground should be no problem and sharpish flat tracks seem to suit him Main rivals all ran at cheltenham - Join Together looks an out and out stayer and this might be too sharp for him, Champion Court hasn't appeared to get 3 miles when he's tried it before, Solix seems best fresh and is an iffy jumper and Yes Tom looks outclassed

That's weird, I'd prefer Spotlight but my screen defaults to Diomed so I have to reselect Spotlight each time! I'm sure that prior to a recent site upgrade I had it set up so that Spotlight always appeared.
Oh blimey....what a circus !.............:lol Maybe it was just a glitch 'cos I've got Diomed back as default this morning...
  3. Re: Question for you form guys

I was asked a question the other day about handicapping, but as all of my horse selection methods are purely stat based I wasnt quite sure on the correct answer so thought I'd ask.(usually the best option when unsure) Q; When horse X is said to be giving weight to horse Y does it mean :- a) horse X is giving weight because its heavier than horse Y b) Horse X is giving weight because its lighter than horse Y I opted for a) but as I said wasn't sure, :ok
It's got nothing to do with the weight of the horse ! It's the weight that they are carrying in the race........... Horse A carries 9-7 Horse B carries 9-0 The terminology is 'horse A is giving weight to horse B, 7 lbs..........and horse B is getting weight from horse A, 7lbs
  4. Re: RP E-mail

Same here The individual comment button on each horse apears to be set to Diomed Another thing I've noticed is that the Verdict below the racecard appears to be the same for both Diomed and Spotlight, the only difference being that the authors name appears on Spotlight.....
Just going back to this, something minor is bugging me..... I'd prefer to have the Diomed comments on the racecard and I've duly selected 'Diomed' in the option box..............but every time I open a new card it resets to Spotlight It means I have to go back and reselect Diomed every time Is there any way to have Diomed as my default ?
  5. Re: Flat Racing 11th April (Lingfield, Kempton, Catterick & Nottingham)

Ling 5.20 - Moresweets n'Lace - win at 11/4 bluesquare CD winner who's had a pipeopener over a longer trip and should be cherry ripe now back down at her winning distance All the other runners are making their seasonal debuts. Most of them have never won in handicaps so there's always the possiblity of being rated too high on their 2yo form. The current fave, Cala santanyi, finished last on her handicap debut A bigger danger could be Entrance who won last year after a 4 month break, comes here off a 4 month break, is around the same mark as her last win and had Hannigan booked....but she doesn't win often, 1 from 20, and her win was a surprise at 40/1

  7. Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Have a crack at Southwell today Shortie banker 4.05 - Red Orator - 11/4 - Johnston maiden winner making handicap debut and could improve a lot, looks a real galloper and no surprise if he were to set off in front and grind them into the dust Take On A Fave 2.30 - Pearls from Sydney 11/2 - taking on Kingscombe, the Eddery trained favourite who has shown nothing in 3 previous runs. I can't see how he's favourite apart from the fact that a lot of Eddery's get well back, but they don't all win. My horse finished 2nd here last time and has the best recent form and acts on the trackl Make my Day 4.35 - Jeu de Vivre - 7/1 - taking on a few course specialists here with another Johnston/Fanning horse stepping up in trip. No course form but acts on soft and Johnston knows a Southwell horse when he sees one. This one ran a couple of days ago and has a good record when turned out quick, has won with 7.6 and 3 day breaks between races

  8. Re: BBOTD 10th April Sou 2.30 - Pearls from Sydney - win at This horse came 2nd in a maiden here last time and should be suited by the extra furlong today A couple of these have been backed today without having shown much on the track - my selection has the best recent form and course experience One of the less exposed might just be different class in which case fair enough, but if they are they've kept it well hidden up to now Adverse comes from one of the bigger yards and has been well backed - Kingscombe from the Eddery yard has shown nothing on the track in 3 runs but has been backed down to favourite They're the two that I'm probably taking on - two well backed ones with no worthwhile form against mine with some OK recent form but going off at nearly twice the odds of the overnight forecast ? See what happens......tho' the form I'm in I can guess what's gonna happen........mine's gonna finish 3rd.................:wall

Anyone else having problems viewing the spotlight comments on the RP cards' date=' the only way I can see them is by checking the 'comments' box at the top. When I open the individual comments it just shows me the diomed comment and I can't see the spotlight verdict at all only the diomed one.[/quote'] Same here The individual comment button on each horse apears to be set to Diomed Another thing I've noticed is that the Verdict below the racecard appears to be the same for both Diomed and Spotlight, the only difference being that the authors name appears on Spotlight.....
  10. Anyone know of any classic racing bloopers to give us a bit of a laugh ? I though of this when reading Nick Mordin's latest column and was surprised to see the following sentence............... Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget became very temperamental and that's why they gelded him :unsure:loon:loon I think some words might have got lost along the way...............:D

  11. Re: Henrythenavigator's first runner Anyone noticed that a week into the season Mick Channon has already run about 4 two year olds by first season sire, Sixties Icon He never ran at 2 and won the St Leger at 3 so he's not an obvious sire for getting precocious speedy two year olds ! What's Mick up to ? Could be running them now to get well beat and secure a decent handicap mark when they go over longer trips ? He also seems pretty keen to get them in sellers after a disappointing maiden run Maybe they're just useless and he wants to get rid.............

  12. Re: Flat Racing 7th April (Kempton & Musselburgh) Muss 2.45 - Shoshoni Wind - win at 12/1 bog Laddies One of the outsiders in this conditions sprint but has a few things in his favour. He goes well fresh (won fto last season) - he's lightly raced, acts on good to soft, comes from the Ryan yard which is in good form and he's a front runner who might get an easy lead He's got a bit to find on the ratings with the market leaders. However the current two favourites both come from the Easterby yard which has had a quiet period and neither of them have ever won first time out in their careers and they're both 7YO Borderlescott has to have a chance as he's well in at the weights and has had a run, but he's now 10 and hasn't won for a couple of years. I suspect he might overtake the Easterby pair and go off as favourite Mister Mannaman was my first choice until I noticed that he doesn't seem as effectrive with cut in the ground so I'm hoping it doesn't dry out before race time (currently good to soft) Bear Behind was a useful 2yo last year but he still only managed to win a maiden ps.....I tried removing the 'indent' - see how it turns out !

  14. Re: Henrythenavigator's first runner

Its brilliant seeing all these sires coming through' date=' they were all winning there classics etc. in my first year of really taking an interest in racing and I will never forget Ravens Pass beating Henry in Queen Elizabeth II Stakes landed a nice bet that day.[/quote'] Well...........it was my first year back after a long break of about 12 years.......or probably the second year because i remember these horses as 2 year olds as well...........Henry won the Coventry I think
