  1. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 28th of March Ling 3.0 - Waterloo Dock - win at 3/1 bog bet365 I've been on quite a long losing run and I'm not overly confident about this one given all the money is for Catalyse My selection beat catalyse last time they met, he's the only CD winner in the field, is in good nick and has a 7 lb claimer up whio's won on him before He's also a front runner in a small field and drawn next to the rail I'd be quite confident if it wasn't for my 'current form'..........:cry

  2. Re: Favourite Horse Ever.... One Flat, One Jumps - that is all!! It's remarkable what there is on youtube if you have a look round.......I was surprised to find quite a few of Njinsky's races from the early 70s (shocking quality though !) The Arazi race is on there of course..........when you watch it with the benefit of knowing what is going to happen you're struck by the fact that the commentator doesn't notice 'the move' until Arazi is almost in 2nd place

  3. Re: Favourite Horse Ever.... One Flat, One Jumps - that is all!! That Arazi Breeders Cup is certainly one of my all time favourite single races.........what a performance ! But for all time favourite horses I'm going for a couple of fairly obvious ones........ Flat - Dancing Brave. Magnificent specimen, devastating turn of foot, should have won the Derby (poor old Greville was dogged by that for the rest of his life), won pretty much everything else. Jumps - Desert Orchid - 'nuff said.

  4. Re: Flat Racing - March 27th, Monday

Jesus' date=' what a depressing horse. Absolutely useless I have to admit afterwards. Had every chance in the race but didn't find anything. Now a 25 times maiden. Well, what did I expect?! :\[/quote'] Depressing isn't it when you realise your horse never really had a chance I put one up in BBotD yesterday and even as I was typing as I was thinking to myself 'this one isn't going to win'..................:wall
  5. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Monday 26th of March Ling 4.15 - Absa Lutte - win at 6/1 bog BVictor Fillies handicap here that shouldn't take much winning - Absa lutte has a good turn of foot in these lower grade races, won last time out and has won off higher marks than this in the past. The race could be run to suit with a front runner in Amazing Win to take them along and a 'presser' in Strictly Pink to hassle ther front runner Could be set up for a late run and that's just what Absa Lutte does best

  6. Re: BBOTD Sun 25th Curr 4.30 - Patrimonium - win at 7/2 bog PP Is the only runner here that's fit from the all weather, having finished 1st and 2nd in it's two recent runs Drops down to 7 furlongs which should be ok with the official going g/s, has been running at a mile at Dundalk Stable is flying and hopefully can take advantage of it's fitness advantage

  7. Re: BBOTD Sun 25th

2:10 Rupert Bear @ Hexham - Hasn't finished any better than 6th in its 5 runs to date.Usual jockey Miss C Walton takes the ride again and claims 7lb.Comes from a small stable without a win this season but can grab a place at a very good price. 0.5pt E/W @ 100/1 Bet Victor
Hard luck there, wafer......it was finishing like the proverbial train but just failed to nick 3rd.....
  8. Re: BBOTD Saturday 24th of March Ling 1.50 - Benbecula - win at 4/1 bog Wm Hill Maiden race with quite a few unknown quantities Not my kind of race at all but I'm just going on a huge speed fig I gave this horse last time out That was a maiden race over this CD and he finished 2nd, the first 2 pulled 17 lengths clear of a 68 rated horse in 3rd Hannon team hitting the straps early this year and this one looks their first choice runner in the race, although how many times do we see the Hannon 2nd string winning (that's one of my little systems for the turf season !) Money is coming for the Gosden horse, Dark Stranger, and my one is drifting - that could be a bit off putting, but I'm not convinced the Gosden horse will be suited by 12 furlongs so I'll stick with my choice !

  9. Re: Irish flat season start - Sunday 25th I need a horse in the Park Express for a comp...........I've gone for Princess Sinead as she's the highest rated non Aidan O'brien 3 year old........ Basically I wanted a 3yo rather than an older horse And O'brien usually gets off to a slow start and his runners come on for a run ? That's the theory..............;)

  10. Re: Irish flat season start - Sunday 25th Yeah...............:nana Don't forget folks............the Stack stable invariably get off to a flyer - here's his runners for Sunday [TABLE=width: 100%]

  11. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Friday 23rd of March Ling 3.00 - Drawnfromthepast - win at 7/4 Bet365 There are currently joint favourites here with my selection and Hinton Admiral Two old rivals - my selection has won the last two times they've met over this CD and just seems to have the edge, tho' he doesn't win by much - three quarters of a length last time Jake The Snake could be a danger - best of these on OR and has a really good record coming back off long breaks, but he seems better over further than todays 6 furlongs and at 11 years of age you'd think he might find things happening a bit quick for him

  12. Re: Sectional Timing to be used in QIPCO races this year

I really don't see any advantage of knowing how fast a horse can run the last 2 furlongs without knowing how fast the previous furlongs were run. If it is a slow run race - the last 2 furlongs are likely to be fast, if it was a fast run race from the start the last 2 furlongs are likely to be slow. There is no way of knowing in advance whether it's going to be fast from the off or tactical with a sprint finish so I'll stick with my current system of using winning times.
That's pretty much my default position as well.........but if i ever was to take much notice of sectional times it would be for the last couple of furlongs when the race is 'on' But on the whole I'd rather stick to final race times
  13. Re: Sectional Timing to be used in QIPCO races this year

I'd like to see this introduced for every race meeting in the UK and also Ireland. I think as a punter you can only benefit from it. It's another additional information you can use for your analyses. Since I went into South African racing I see what a powerful tool sectional timing can be. Well' date=' in SA racing you only get the time for the last 2f (and only if you buy the computaform online racecards) but that alone is already very useful as in SA almost every races turns into a sprint. So to see how fast a horse can run the final two furlongs and to be able to compare this time with other performances/situations and to other runners in the field is very, very useful. Therefore I would really appreciate sectional timing in the UK.[/quote'] I think if we had that I would change the way I do my speed figs and just do my figures on the last 2 furlongs..........similar to what Nick Mordin does (he tries to do his own sectionals from TV coverage !) Do you happen to know if the 2 furlong sectional time is given seperately for each horse ? Or do you need to know how far behind the leader each horse was at the 2 furlong pole to try to work out a time for a horse that was 10 lengths back at the 2 furlong pole and ran on to win ?
  14. Re: FLAT RACING FRI 23RD MARCH

Prohibition is certainly tempting... Paul Hannagan booked as well... Am trying to give myself a few days off but this one keeps poking me!
Not sure about the trip though..........this is an easy track and he's dropping to 8 furlongs from 9.45 at Wolves, His only other win was a mile of heavy ground He;s usually held up at the rear - just think he might find things happening too quickly for him over this CD But he's obviously well handicapped........... I think on the whole, I'd take him on
  15. Re: Back on the Nags Yeah........I'm not too sure about horses who met trouble in running. They are often well backed next time out and you've got to be careful that you're not dealing with a professional 'trouble in running' horse - you get horses who always find trouble in running because they haven't got the speed to get out from behind horses or they just like to follow other horses. Or they have to be covered up till the last minute leaving them open to being boxed in etc. There are lots of reasons why horses meet trouble in running and in many case it's because that's the type of horse they are and they'll probably meet trouble in running next time as well The other type I'd be wary of is the running on/staying on horse who runs on from the back to finish 5th when the race is over. Again they're often well backed next time and guess what......they run on to finish 5th when the race is over. They're often running past horses that have been involved at the sharp end and are now slowing quickly, giving the impression that your horse is running fast at the finish. They're often just taking advantage of the fact that they've not been in the race and there's no guarantee that they'll deliver when they are put in the race

  16. Re: FLAT RACING FRI 23RD MARCH

LING 5.20 prohibition will be popular as he is on a good mark ......(not sure how he dropped from 56 to 52 after winning?
he was 4lb out of the handicap so his mark was 52 but he ran off 56.......he hasn't been put up for the win (it was an apprentice race)
  17. Re: Lady Jockeys Championship I think it's fair enough...........it's already there unofficially and is talked about and the stats are shown every now and then Basically it's just another sponsorship/marketing opportunity and maybe if the girls get a bit more publicity it could be good for the sport, Racing For Change is always saying how they want the star jockeys to take a more high profile public role

  18. Re: arent we lucky I think one of the best things about racing is that we have great horses every year or two......just on the flat in the last 3/4 years we've had Sea The Stars, Zarkava, Frankel There'll be another one along in a year or so...........:clap

  19. Re: Sectional Timing to be used in QIPCO races this year I don't think it'll do any harm but I'm not sure if I'll take much notice of it, even though I do my own speed figs Couple of things..............firstly information overload. Obviously I'm not going to do different speed figs for each section of each race - I'd be up all night doing it. I could maybe see the point of confining your speed rating to the last two or three furlongs (the Mordin approach) as it would be nice to know comparitively how fast each horse runs at the business end of the race. But there's no point if it's only a few dozen races The main point of course though is that it only tells you about past races - you still have to work out or take a guess on the likely angles in the race you're studying for a bet.

  20. Re: Question Of The Day Blimey...........how lucky are we in this country ? Today I've watched a marvellous hour or more long show on ATR with Hunty and Hugh Taylor going over cheltenham, picking some jumps and all weather eye catchers, dealing with viewer e-mails on the tricky subject of 'value' and general racing, betting and systems chat Afternoon basically watching RUK but flicking over to ATR for selected races. Every race in the country on live with previews, post views, interviews etc........... Then a terrific few hours in the company of Lydia and Eddie The Shoe with tonights Kempton card and in between races previews of the Winter Derby, the Lincoln, the flat season to come, the jockey title, viewers e-mails and a few laughs along the way I wonder if any other country gets racing coverage like we do ?
