  1. Re: Flat Racing - Sunday 22nd July 2012 Been having a look around todays group races in Europe Germany - Hoppegarten 4.00 - Meandre - win at 4/5 Betfred - looks a class above the German domestic runners, Doesn't act on soft ground so hopefully the stated 'good to soft' is not too soft ! France - M-L 1.30 - Penny's Picnic - win at 11/4 Laddies - with a couple of high profile British raiders you're getting goods here on the outstanding early season French 2yo. Reckless Abandon won the Norfolk and sir Prancelot was 4th in the Coventry so this is a good test of the relative merits on both sides of the channel France - M-L 2.40 - Loi - win at 10/1 PP - good odds here on the outsider of the 5 runner field. Went off fave for the premier French Derby trial, the Hocquart, but has struggled in the trials on soft ground. Won a small race on heavy last time but presumably outclassed his rivals. Bit like Meandre above this looks a good bet if the stated 'good to soft' is not too soft Ireland - Curragh 2.10 - Tannery - win at 8/1 Skybet - probably not the classiest filly in this field but she's big, tough, stays and handles heavy ground Ireland - Curragh 2.45 - the obvious winner is now a non runner so I'm leaving this one alone Ireland - Curragh 3.20 - Great Heavens - win at 13/8 Laddies - Princess Highway is probably the best filly in the race but the ground has gone against her, so going with the recent Haydock group 2 winner who's been supplemented here and looks a group one filly in the making. Handles the ground

  2. Re: best bet of the day friday 20 july Newm 7.50 - Rash judgement - ew at 11/1 bog betvictor After my 40/1 EW shot yesterday inevitably finished 4th I'm going for a slighty better chance EW shot in the hope of snatching 3rd.......:unsure Rash Judgement is a CD winner, has been been getting a bit closer with every run this season and was only beaten a length last time in a similar grade to this Acts on soft ground Yard has had 2 winners and 2 placed from 5 runners this week Hasn't won for a couple of years but his falling mark reflects that

  3. Re: BBOTD Thursday 19th July 6.50 Donny - Lady Marmello - EW at 40/1 Stan James Been on a poor run lately picking first or second favourites and they usually finish 2nd So I'm having a bit of a fling on an outsider Second run for mick channon's filly and his 2yo runners usually improve a lot for their first outing. This one ran in a Newbury maiden and was beaten 9 lengths. The 2nd from that race is tonights short priced favourite The winner of the Newbury race is group one entered and Newbury maidens are usually pretty good I'm hoping for significant improvement and running into a place at big odds !

  4. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 17th July Bev 4.00 - Mojolika - win at 5/2 bog bet365 Won this race last year and comes here in good nick after finishing 2nd last time out Stable flying at the moment The second favorite is a Johnston 3yo stepping up in trip which is usually a sign of something worth backing but he's been weakening over 12f Rest look pretty exposed usual suspects

  5. Re: BBOTD Sunday 15th of July Fair 3.05 - Arctic - win at 11/4 bog bet365 Nice little Listed sprint here with 8 runners - it's tempting tom go EW on one of the bigger priced ones but the only realistic EW option is Sante Padre and he looks better at 5F and might not 6f on soft going Arctic was agood 2yo - beat Sole Power by 5 lengths in a Listed race and won a group 3 Had a spell in the doldrums as a 3 and 4 year old but appears to be on the way back now. Won a handicap off 96 ans placed second in a valuble handicap off 10 stone last time. Had Gordon Lord Byron just behind him and they meet again on the same terms but I think my horse maybe improving having found form again

  6. Re: The worst tipsters

I not suggesting any foul play went on ' date=' just a light hearted statement. If jockeys can't pick winners what chance do we have ![/quote'] At the moment I've got about as much chance of picking one as i have of riding one...........:p
  7. Re: BBOTD sat 14th July Longchamp 6.50 - Top Trip - win at 12/1 bog bet365 group one action on a Saturday evening in the 'real' French Derby Most of tonights runners ran in the 'Jockey Club' which was a rough race with too many runners, many forced wide, many hampered and with a winner who avoided all the trouble. About 10 horses finished in a bunch behind him including the ones running tonight Any of them could probably win but I like the fact that Top trip has been supplemented which shows some confidence. Plus the fact that he was running on strongly at the finish at Chantilly and should be suited by the full 'Derby' trip Imperial Monarch finished behind him and is 6/4 so 12/1 looks decent odds

  8. Re: BBOTD fri 13th july Newb 4.35 - Troopingthecolour - win at 11/4 bog bet365 Drops back to 10f now after being well beaten over 12f last time Previously had todays favourite, Little Rocky, 2 lengths behind him over todays trip and he can confirm the form even tho' he's 3lbs worse off Willie Twiston-Davies takes the ride and takes 7lbs off He handles soft ground and the yard are hitting form with a 2nd and a winner with their last two runners Goes particularly well in small fields with three of his six career wins coming in races with 6 or fewer runners

Hi Richard..........think I must have missed something along the way as I'm not sure what your new ratings - 16. 15. 13. 11 - refer to ? is it possible to refer me to a post which explains ? cheers
  10. I've been looking at the 3.30 at Ayr tomorrow and the favourite is The Nifty Fox who won last time out after a long losing spell of 37 races over 3 years The Spotlight comment in the Post says .........'doesn´t find it easy to get his head in front but remains well handicapped on old form, stays 6f and perhaps that win has given his confidence a boost' There's not a great deal of evidence that he does stay 6 furlongs but the thing that got my attention was not that but the bit about his confidence being given a boost by winning LTO Is that just a load of old codswallop ? Do horses have 'confidence issues' ?............do they know that they've won a race ? Any horsey people want to try and persuade me that horses gain confidence from winning a race ? I suspect it's a load of old tosh

  11. Re: bbotd monday 3.30 Ayr - Chookie Royale - win at 4/1 bog betvictor Like Skylark I'm looking to take on the favourite here for the same reason - 8 years old and never won at the trip. I agree that Distant Sun has the best recent form but he also looks best at 5 furlongs these days - his last 4 wins have been at the minimum and he hasn't won over 6f for well over 4 years All the others look a bit out of form but I think Chookie Royale has an excuse for his last run (first try at 8F, didn't appear to get it) He's lightly raced, he's back on his last winning mark and he acts on soft ground. He also drops back to class 5 having been running in class 4 races this season They don't appear to have found a trip for him - he'll probably end up best at 7 furlongs. But for today on soft ground at 6 furlongs I'd rather be on the 7 furlong horse than the 5 furlong one !

  12. Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July Ayr 3.30 - Silvery Moon - win at 5/2 bog bet365 Drops in class today after running in a few decent handicaps this season. Last time out was beaten under a length in the fiercely competitive Carlisle Bell. He's a CD winner and acts on soft Of the other market leaders Prophesy is a lightly raced 3 year old who ran well last time but he has gone up 3lb for finishing 2nd and appeared to get outstayed on his first attempt at today's trip. He looks the main danger and given the form I'm in he's probably going to win with my horse a neck 2nd Le Chat D'or has been in good form in lesser company and looks like a battler so he's dangerous

  13. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Horseracebase. There's a stickied link to a free trial on the front of this part of the forum
Cheers jay but I'm not looking to pay......:unsure....it's only to C&P a couple of races a week onto another forum for a competition The Life was great before it incorporated links and colours...but it appears that it was the last of the 'copy and paste friendly' websites............:loon
  14. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Knockout Cup 1st Round ~ Deadline Saturday 7th July 2pm Here we go then............ Sand 3.10 - Arsaadi - ew at 6/1 bog PP Sand 4.20 - Thimaar - ew at 11/2 bog bet365 Sand 4.55 - Dreams of Fire - ew at 7/1 bog bet365 res Sand 2.05 - Elnawin - ew at 7/1 bog PP Sand 2.40 - Con Artist - ew at 18/1 bog betvictor Sand 1.30 - Dutch Old master - ew at 7/1 bog PP Good luck steve and everyone else !

  15. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Does anyone know of any sites that have straightforward text racecards without colours, links, betting odds links etc What I'm looking for is something that's easy to copy and paste...............like the Life used to be before the 'improvements'..............

  16. Re: Bbotd - fri 6th July Sand 4.35 - Chain of Events - EW at 14/1 Skybet Should be in the shake up here - has won his last 2, both over this CD Appears to act on any ground and his last win was in a similar class of race to today, although not as competitive with only 5 runners Up 8lbs but did win by over 4 lengths so that should be fair enough

  17. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Doncaster has now called a noon inspection for this afternoons card If you're looking for a bet or to pick for the comps it might be best to stick to Sandown which appears to be the only meeting guaranteed to go ahead and apparently most of the rain has slid around the racecourse so conditions are still good.

  18. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Could be a bit of a nightmare today on the 'changing conditions' front Warwick already abandonned, afternoon inspections at Haydock and Beverley for this evening The sites are still showing Sandown as good to firm, good in places but it's been raining steadily in the London area............so that's a bit of a lottery until racing gets underway (and there's bound to be loads of non runners) If you fancy a day off I think today wold be a good one.............:unsure

  19. Re: BBOTD - Wed 4th July 2012 Catt 3.50 - Bijoun Dan - win at 10/3 bog betvictor Hasn't won for a few years and is now in the veteran stage but has a good chance today 8 lbs below last winning mark but looks capable of winning now as he finished a close up 2nd off this mark last time on his 2nd run back from a break. At 11 years old he's entitled to need a couple of runs to get the old bones moving CD winner, acts with cut in ground and beat a couple of these (including today's favourite) last time out The suggestion in the Post is that Mohawk Ridge will turn the tables but I'm not sure - I think my horse could outstay him on softish ground and Mohawk Ridge has been weakening towards the finish in all his recent runs

  20. Re: Who is Benji ?????????? He's a regular viewer from, I think, the Brighton area ?.........who sends in his selections for every Kempton meeting which is presented from the studio Whoever's 'on duty' tends to read them out because they've got time between races to fill - they keep asking for e-mails to give them something to talk about I didn't know that Benji sent in his tips for the turf meetings or if he did that they read them out

  21. Re: Opinions I think you can look at too many things I look at course, distance, going, class of race, official rating run off and recent form That's plenty..............:p If I've made a selection I might look at trainerform and days since last run but they would have to be huge negative signposts for me to take them into account
