  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Gah, 13:30 Fakenham had a fair bet on Benny the Swinger. About 15lengths infront and rather than run over the finish line Brendan Powell decides to take the jump and go around again.
Saw that at lunchtime on ATR...........it was a shocker and he's got two weeks for it Very similar to Sam Whalley-Cohen a few months ago The onus is on the jockey to know the course but given that these incidents appear to be purely human error surely they could be avoided fairly easily. When the horses have past on the first circuit just run a tape out across the track to make it clear that next time round they go to the left of the rail...............it would take a few seconds.
  2. Re: BBOTD Sunday 18th Nov Chelt 3.25 - Fox Run - win at 7/2 bog betvictor The favourite here is Hobb's runner who finished 2nd to a hotpot at the meeting here a few weeks ago Think I'll take him on because thew Hobbs yard just seem to be getting a lot of placed horses but not many winners and he's not a certain stayer, looked to be outstayed over this CD last time Paul Nicholl's runner is unbeaten having won a PTP and a maiden hurdle.............didn't beat much but looked very impressive and Nicholls knows the strength of every novice division, so he probably knows where all his horses stand and you wopuldn't think he'd send one to this meeting without a chance of winning

  3. Re: bbotd thurs Been sticking with the jumpers this month but I'been busy today and have run out of races...........so I#m going to slip in an AW shortie and hope it obliges.......... Kemp 6.55 - Tarbawi - win at 10/11 BOG Favourite for the nursery over 6 furlongs tonight.....he's run well on the AW last twice and scored decent speed figs, the two best figures of any of tonights runners Buick gets the ride for Godolphin which I've noted a few times recently He just got headed on the post over 7f last time and might not have quite got home even though he should get a mile really. Gets the first time visor tonight Just gone odds on while I've been typing..................:wall

  4. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 13th November Ling 3.30 Captain Tidds - win at 13/8 bog wm hill Poor quartet here - I'm going for my selection because he's run OK at the track before, acts on the ground and has had a bit of a break. He was running OK earlier in the summer with a 2nd and a 4th Pocket Aces is the other fancied one and is plummeting down the weights but has been pretty well beaten most recent runs

  5. Re: BBOTD Monday 12th Carl 1.55 - The magic Bishop - win at 5/2 bog bet365 only 4 runners and there's not much between them in the market with the outsider currently 4/1 my horse has won at the track and has won over further so be getting up the hill at the finish acts on the going and is 3 lbs higher than last winning mark The other horse with a similar profile is Rossini's dancer but he's 10lbs higher than last winning mark What's Up Woody is a CD winner but has been well beaten in his last few outings The current fave is Papa caruso who makes his seasonal debut having won FTO last season. He's lightly raced and might be better than he's shown so far. But this is a test and will expose any lack of peak fitness Odds on my horse have shortened while I've been typing..................:loon

  6. Re: BBOTD Sunday 11th November Navan 2.50 - Big Zeb - win at 11/2 bog PP Cracking little Grade 2 race here pitting one of the top 2 milers of the last few years against some promising younger horses coming out of their novice season Flemenstar looks like he's going to be the best of best over the season but he's reportedly a very big horse who'll need a run to get him fit. This theory accords with his record of being beaten on all his seasonal appearances Realt Dubh looks good but probably wants further than the minimum trip and he ran 7 days ago in the grade one at Down Royal so he's not had much recovery time. I rate him the main danger Big Zeb has won this race for the last 3 years and this is the time to catch him on his seasonal debut. He's getting on now at 11 years of age so there's a chance that he's gone over the top but I'll risk one last hurrah to put the youngsters in their place

  7. Re: BBOTD > Saturday 10th November Winc 2.50 - Local hero - win at 8/1 bog bet365 With the market leaders and class horses here making their seasonal reappearance it might be a good idea to side with a fit and in form hurdler The two nicholls horses at the head of the market both look like staying types who might not be suited by this easy track at the minimum trip whereas my horse has been mopping up the Listed handicaps at Market Rasen over the summer - a similar track to this Nicholls says Zarkandar might need the run and to be fair he's not run until February in the last couple of seasons so he's starting a lot earlier this year. He's unbeaten when coming back from a break and i think he's the main danger

  8. Re: BBOTD - Friday the 9th of November Font 2.40 - Venetian Lad - win at Eve bog WM Hill 4 times course winner who's on a roll winning his last 3 outings This looks no harder than the races he's been winning and he acts on any going Up 5lbs for last win but although he only won by a couple of lengths the first two were well clear

  9. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 7th november Chep 3.40 - For The Staff - win at 10/3 bog stan james I'm going to take on the Pipe trained favourite Royal Mile - although he won fairly impressively over CD last time out he's up in the weights in a better race and hasn't run on heavy ground before. He was held up severley to get this trip last time and that might not work in a better race on heavy ground For the staff is still young and fairly lightly raced 0 he was a decent novice hurdler and last time he ran in a handicap chase he finished 4th in a very competitive and much higher grade race at punchestown. that was in May last year. He had a poor season after that running over too short trips and he's now down a stone in the weights Had a wind op and been sent pointing where he won a couple last winter Potentially much better class than these and the conditions should be ok - won on heavy and won at the trip

  10. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 6th Exe 2.50 Cue card - win at Evs bluesquare Terrific little race with 3 of the top few in the betting for the champion Chase Cur Card goes well fresh and beat 2nd fave Menorah last time they met. Several Hobbs runners have disappointed in early season big races (Planet of Sound on saturday) and it looks like they might bew needing a run Edgardo de Sol is an up and comer but hasn't reached the heights of the first two yet and he tends to jump left so might be better on a LH track

  11. Re: BBOTD Monday 5th Kemp 3.10 - Ghizao - win at Evens bog PP Only 4 runners for this Chase Paul Nichols and Ruby Walsh team up with the favourite and he looks to have a solid favourites chance He was a top novice a couple of years ago but disappointed last season being well beat in 3 runs in handicaps On the last run the jockey reported that the horse had breathing problems so I'm assuming he's had a wind op as Nicholls usually gives them a wind op wether they need one or not and he seems to have needed one If he's anywhere near his novice form he should win this pretty easily Kumbeshwar is a cracking horse but is liable to jumping errors over fences and you can't do that here at Kempton which has stiff fences that are unforgiving of errors

  12. Re: BBOTD Sunday 4th November Cork 3.20 - Baily Green - win at 11/8 bog betvictor Only 3 runners for this Grade 3 novice chase and we have two joint favourites at the moment ! The third horse has been beaten recently by my selection and is a bit of an iffy jumper The other joint favourite with mine was a decent hurdler who won his first start over jumps but he lacks experience My horse has won his last 6 races including five chases and has risen up the ranks and his last two wins have been grade races He's a pretty bold front runner and might just put the jumping of the inexperienced Tofino Bay under pressure if he tries to go with him

  13. Re: BBOTD Saturday 3rd of November Weth 2.50 - Restless Harry - win at 8/1 bog bet365 Won this race last year by 20L and tends to run best first time out He keeps banging his head against Big Bucks in the grade one races so i expect this is probably his seasonal objective and anything else will be a bonus He's fairly exposed and there's an up and coming type in Smad Place who's the favourite today He's obviously got a good chance and i can't really find a good reason to oppose him apart from the price. I note that since his juvenile days his only wins have been on right-hand tracks but maybe that's just coincidence as he's run OK left handed without winning. At the prices I think RH is a bit over-priced to win this again !

  14. Re: BBOTD Friday 2nd November Uttox 2.55 - Wild Rhubarb - win at 5/2 bog Stan James On paper this should go to one of the first 2 in the market Kindly Note (current fave) beat my selection by around 7 lengths a couple of weeks ago but the extra half mile should play into my horses hands (hooves ?) as she's already won over 3 miles at this CD whereas the fave looks like a 20F type and might not last home.

  15. Re: Breeders Cup Discussion Don't forget that all the 2yo races at the Breeders Cup this year are are to be run Lasix free..........most of the US juveniles will have raced with Lasix prior to today so it's a bit of a lottery how they'll run without it (and the cynic might say without the other drugs that Lasix masks............:eek) My nap of the day would be Ridasiyna in the Fillies and Mares. The group of fillies she's been running against in France have plundered the F&M group ones in the UK, plus the Arc...........she herself won the group one 10F race on Arc day. Currently 4/1 with Wm Hill and Laddies

  16. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Tables ~ November 2012

Rule change; Please make note of the change in Bookies offering BOG prices from this month. Coral and Stan James have been added and Ladbrokes are only offering BOG from midday now.
Cheers for that info BH. I didn't realise SJ had re-instated BOG even though it's my only online account. Hopefully they realised that they had lost business by scrapping it and have learned their lesson.........
  17. Re: BBOTD - Thursday 1st Nov 2012 Hereford 4.00 - Unwanted gift - win at 11/4 bog betvictor Very poor field here and I'm going for the topweight as he's won over CD and is relatively young and lightly raced compared to most of the others The race he won was another poor affair and featured two of todays rival who both fell at the 2nd last leaving him clear by 70 lengths Hereford is a course with stiff fences so you don't want to be on an iffy jumper particularly in low grade affairs..............my horse has never fallen in his 20 races so I'll take him to get round whereas some of then other probably won't

  18. Re: BBOTD Saturday 27th Newb 2.45 - Harris Tweed - win at 11/2 bog bet365 Cd winner, best on soft and has won in group 3 company Is a front runner and looks like he's running into form with a good 2nd in a Listed race last time There is another fancied front runner, Hawaafez, in the race but I don't think they'll take each on. They both know that would be suicidal so I expect them to lob along together .........if that happens I reckon my horse can see off the filly in the finish !

  19. Re: How to know when a hurdler will make a good chaser. Advice please I haven't followed the jumps much for 4 or 5 years since i decided to specialise in the AW with my speed ratings But I've never really got going on the AW and Flat since about February and I haven't got any enthusiasm for this winters's AW though I'm continuing to compile speed figs in case I take it up again I'm seriously thinking about having a crack at the Jumps this winter just for something different and to try and get me going again...............to 'whip up' a bit of interest, different scenery, different problems to solve, new things to learn At the moment I can't see how I could do ratings for the jumps............I'm like you Saint, I like my ratings. I like the whole process of doing some kind of rating which I think (even if it's ridiculous !!) gives me an edge............. I could do speed ratings based on standard times but I'm not sure how useful they would be, I suspect not very useful Form ratings ?...............I've never really got involved in that so I suppose I could have a think about it, but BH's post above points out some of the problems which I don't want to be wrestling with on a daily basis. The alternative is not to bother doing any ratings at all and that appeals to me to save time !..........it does take quite a lot of time to rate every race every day I think I have a pretty good knowledge of the Jumps courses as I studied them in depth in the 80s and 90s but I've learned a hell of a lot about handicapping whilst doing the AW and would hope to be able to bring that knowledge to the Jumps game, whereas in previous jumps betting I tended to concentrate on course form and racing style Don't know wether to specialise in hurdles or chases, or some other sub category, or just take it as it comes........concentrate on the better races ?. Anyone got any thoughts on wether it's worth specialising in any particular aspect of the Jumps game ? Come on Saint..........give it a go ! I think it might do the trick for me ................if not and i sneak back to the AW then at least I hope I'll have learnt stuff along the way !.......:p

  20. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I like Rishi, he's good fun I don't watch C4 racing but will all those people be on the show together ? What are they all going to do ?............... Does this mean that Cunningham won't be on RUK any mnore or presumably he'll be freelance and will do both ? I've got no idea what Emma Spencer is for..............I've seen her on The Morning Line. She doesn't appear to have any expertise or contribution to make. She's not even pretty............so she can't be there for decoration No problem with Clare and Nick - I think they're perfectly good presenters The new line up is not going to encourage me to watch C4 Racing, but then I've got ATR and RUK so there's no reason to watch it.................

  21. Re: How to know when a hurdler will make a good chaser. Advice please I suppose there'll always be exceptions to the rule but my thought would be that Flat horses and Flat-bred horses don't usually make good chasers because they're bred for speed, even the middle-distance ones The hurdlers that come from Jumping stock will often run in bumpers, then novice hurdles then go straight to novice chases Flat horses can't run in bumpers so that's a decent clue.............if your horse has run in a bumper it's likely to be Jumps bred and 'a chasing type'
