  1. Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th September Leop 4.40 - Duntle - win at 9/2 bog PP Steps up to group one company today after winning a Listed handicap at Royal Ascot and a group 3 last time out Should be better than that G3 win which was on unsuitable soft ground, todays conditions should be more to her liking Main danger is probably last years winner, Emulous, who has to come back from running a bit of a stinker at Royal Ascot Ishvana looks the main 3 year old threat having won the Jersey at Ascot but she seems better at 7 furlongs

  2. Re: BBOTD Thursday 6th of September Sals 4.20 - Chiberta King - win at 5/6 bog bet365 Short price but looks an outstanding bet in 3 horse race Pretty decent stayer who drops in class, can front run, and has won over the trip Lily in Pink has been on a run but last time won a hcap off 88 by a neck and she's up against two rivals rated 20 lbs better than that Songcraft has been disappointing this season, isn't certain to get the trip and looks better covered up in bigger fields I hope Joe Fanning on my horse just does the obvious..........get to the front and go fast enough to expose any stamina doubt in Songcraft and any class doubt in Lily

  3. Re: A little help understanding racing terms

Another quick related question. Say there is a horse carrying 9-6 but the jockey is an apprentice and claiming 5 pound. Would the 9-6 on the card be the figure without the weight allowance or is this including the allowance?
The 9-6 would be the alloted weight before any jockey claims So in your case the actual weight carried would be 9-1.
  4. Re: Pricing up a race I've used a couple of short cuts.......... Firstly instead of pricing up just spend time putting the horses in order from most likely to win to least likely to win Then from then until race time you can check your list against the available prices So say that the horse you have 2nd is 5th in the betting then you know it's probably good value And if the horse you have 7th is Favourite then it's probably a good lay The second short cut follows on from that, if you want actual prices First put your horses in order Then take a betting forecast from the Life or Post and recalculate the prices down to a 100% and just allocate the price of the first horse in the forecast to your first horse on your list, the price of the 2nd horse in the forecast to your 2nd on your list etc..........you'll automatically have a 100% book

  5. Re: Reckless Abandon bought by Darley I wonder if they're buying them outright or just buying 'an option' to buy them in the future...........in other words buying the right to have first bagsie Seems a bit dicky to buy Reckless Abandon now for stud duties after his 3yo season - I reckon he's the best 2yo in Europe at the moment but it's quite likely he'll be 'just a sprinter' and will struggle against older horses as a 3yo I'd say it's 50-50 that he'll have relatively no stud value after his 3yo season

  6. Re: BBOTD Sunday 2nd of September Baden-Baden 4.00 - Pastorius - win at 7/2 Ladbrokes Top race in Europe this weekend is the group one at Baden-baden The best middle distance horse in Europe runs here, the Arc and King George winner - Danedream But I'm going to take her on because although she's won here and won with cut in the ground and in small fields I don't think these are her ideal conditions. I think she's probably better going right-handed, better on good ground and better in big fields where she can be covered and unleash her devastating late run Two cracking german 3yo colts take her on today. Pastorius and Novellist both look like top group one horses but I'm going with Pastorius because he's won twice in G1 company and Novellist hasn't...............and Pastorius narrowly beat his rival when they met earlier in the seasonm That was the first indication that Pastorius was a serious racehorse and he's since won a group one by 8 lengths powering away impressively Should be a cracking race today

  7. Re: bbotd wednesday 30th Carl 4.30 - Oddysey - win at 11/8 stan james Only 5 runners in the fillies handicap and the Favourite is Oddysey She's in form with two wins and two seconds in last 4 runs, she's won at the trip, she's won on good ground and soft, currently soft at carlisle but drying out Sh'e up 8lbs for her last win but appears to be progressing and won a handicap by 3 lengths last time, readily running away from the field and the second and third had both won their previous races

  8. Re: Best flat jockey at the moment? I guess i don't pay much attention to jockeys.........it's not something that factors highly in my selections process But I've gone for Hughsie because my impression (not based on any research) is that he wins on horses that usually finish 4th or 5th when other people ride them..........I notice particularly with his spare rides at the AW meetings...........ie, his non Hannon rides

  9. Re: bbotd tuesday Sou 6.20 - Cape safari - win at 10/1 bog Boyles Quite a few CD winners and usual suspects here today in the 14F handicap but I'm going with onr of the less exposed ones, one of the two three year olds Cape safari has run here 3 times and won twice and finished 2nd. Gets the 3YO weight allowance and is 2lbs higher than last winning mark He hasn't won over this trip but has won over 12 furlongs here and on soft ground at Leicester Last two runs at Wolves have produced decent speed figs and he looks to have as much stamina as the CD winners here so hopefully he'll get the trip

  10. Re: BBOTD SundaY 26th of August Yarm 4.15 - Imaginary Diva - win at 7/4 bog bet365 A few non runners have left a field of 5 for the fillies sprint handicap Imaginary Diva is the onlyb CD winner in the field, will act on the changed going and is in good recent form with a win and a close up 2nd in her last two outings Although there's only 5 runners a couple of them appear to be front runners who might well take each other on and set it up for a late runner, which is my selection's usual race style. A lot of sprinters want a fast pace race with a big field and plenty of cover but my selection is not one of them..........6 or her 7 bwins have come in single figure fields, the last 2 in fields of 4 and 6 runners Mark is OK - she won off this mark this time last year

  11. Anyone else having problems on the Post site this morning ? I can't log in as no log in box appears when I click on the log in link I just get a black page And without logging in the racecards have no latest odds showing and the filters to arrange horses by RPR or TS are not working............. Just me ?..................or everyone ?

  12. Re: BBOTD Saturday 25th August Windsor 6.15 - Goldoni - win at 9/2 bog wm hill Taking a bit of a punt on the weather here...............if the rains come before race time Goldoni will look a decent bet at these odds he won the epsom derby trial earlier this year on heavy ground and finished a close up 2nd last time out in a Listed race on 'soft' The other two main contenders would appear less well suited by any deterioration of the ground My horse doesn't mind leading and could well make this a test of stamina from the front

  13. Re: How much do you read into the weights? It would seem logical that it is harder to carry bigger weights in soft ground.......... But quite often in racing it helps to think outside the box a bit and look for angles that appear illogical So............soft ground races are run more slowly and it's easier to carry weight if you're not running as fast Conversely on firm ground the horses are running faster and it's harder to carry weight The suitcase analogy............you can walk along carrying your suitcase, you can even stride out a bit if you're running late for the train...........but try running carrying the suitcase and you'll soon grind to a halt

  14. Re: BBOTD Friday 24th August York 3.05 - Dubai Prince - win at 5/1 bog bet365 This horse was a Derby favourite after an impressive 2yo campaign but had a set back and missed most of his 3yo season He's been a bit in and out ever since, obviously not lived up to expectations Got pretty much his ideal conditions today - 2/2 over todays trip, the overnight rain has taken any firm out of the ground which he doesn't handle, he's a CD winner and Godolphin usually send one to this race with a good chance

  15. Re: BBOTD - Sunday 19th August Ponty 3.45 - Haamaat - EW at 25/1 bog bet365 This race usually goes to one of the older horses - no 3YO has won in the last 10 years and 3YO generally have a poor record in pattern sprints against their elders Haamaat finished 4th in a Listed race 2 runs ago over 6F at haydock, running on late Then didn't quite seem to get 7f last time, though that was against colts, so the jury is still out However this stiff 6F should be ideal as hopefully she'll be running on when others are tiring. Has a bit to find on the ratings with the other older fillies but is lightly raced with just 7 career runs and took my interest earlier this year with some wins on the AW Looks big at 25/1 with the 3yo fillies at the head of the market

  16. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread So........there were 30 non runners at Newmarket last night Someone on another forum has posted that owners were entering horses because it was so much cheaper than buying tickets to see Jessie J..........they were turning up, getting their badges, then declaring their horse a non runner............that's why so many horses were pulled out late even though there was no change in the going If this is true this is a ridiculous state of affairs..................:unsure

  17. Re: BBOTD Friday 17th of August 8.55 Kemp - Oblitereight - win at 11/8 bog PP Won a similar race to this over CD last time out and has run well here before - has recorded a couple of good speed figs The second reopposes on better terms but my selection appeared to win with plenty in hand and the penalty shoudn't stop him The other main danger comes from winning a class 6 maiden and might need more experience before taking on solid class 4 handicappers
