  1. Re: BBOTD - Mon 2nd July 2012

Was a seller, mate! Delighted at getting the winner, but backed at 8's with Bet365 and not 11's with sportingbet. Still a good return as sp was 6/1! Just wish I had more money on! Stats don't lie ;)
well done jay............ I'm having a miserable time recently, confidence shot to pieces, can't be bothered studying form, just going for favourites and hoping..............of course, they're all getting turned over. As soon as i press 'submit' I regret my selection............ so...........good of you to rub it in............:p
  2. Re: BBOTD - Mon 2nd July 2012 Wind 7.10 - Scarlet Rocks - win at 7/4 bog betvictor 6 furlong claimer Has a good track record here, CD winner and finished in first 2 six times from 11 visits, and ran well in a claimer here two runs ago, a half length 2nd to a 77 rated rival There's nothing that good in tonights race Disappointed in a Newbury handicap last time out but never got in to the race, slowly away (that rings a bell !), hampered, switched, never got going Got to forget that run and she's got a good chance tonight

  3. Re: Irish and UK grading of races - similar or differences? The grades are the same for group and listed races which are organised at the European pattern level Under that each country has it's own domestic gradings Ireland doesn't have a grading system, the races are just listed by what they are - maidens, handicaps etc. I notice though that they do designate their top handicaps as 'premier handicaps' If I'm looking at an Irish race I just use the prize money as a guide to roughly what level previous races run in were...........

  4. Re: Flat Racing - Sunday 1st July 2012 I hope the German Derby wil be shown live on the racing channels.......... Novellist looks a very interesting horse Mordin reckons he's the joint best 3yo in Europe along with Camelot But I have noticed that Mordin tends to over-rate German horses, so I want top see Novellist with my own eyes...................:rollin

  5. Re: bbotd sun 1st july Curragh 5.25 - Father of Science - win at 4/1 bog PP Going for promise and potential against provan achievement with this one Only had two runs, ran green and beaten when favourite for a Navan maiden, then sluiced up in a soft ground maiden at Chesters May Meeting. Beatifully bred by Galileo out of a Darshan mare, he's a half brother to High Chapparel Has run green both starts to date and hopefully a few months off and missing the Derby trials has given him time to grow up a bit He comes from the O'Brien yard and would probably be their obvious St Leger candidate if it wasn't for a certain Camelot. Looks certain to be a group class stayer. The favourite is a grand mare, Midnight Soprano, who's won her last 5 races. But since stepping up in trip she's found herself in slow run affairs that she's won with a turn of foot at the finish. There's a couple of front runners here today who should make this a test of stamina and I'm not sure that wil suit her The top rated ones today are around 103/104.........if Father of Science is a potential group class stayer he should have the beating of them

  6. Re: BBOTD - Sat 30th June 2012 Windsor 4.00 - Coup de Ville - win at 5/4 bog betvictor Richard Hannon's 3 year old comes here after running in the English and French 2000 gns, beaten 2 to 4 lengths in those classics This represents a big drop in class and gets all the weight allowances

  7. Re: BBOTD Thursday 28th June Ham 8.50 - Northern Bolt - win at 2/1 bog bet365 Looks second best on ratings in the seller but I'm not sure the top rated and current fave, Fol Hollow, is entirely suited by this track It's a difficult track for front runners because the first half is downhill and the second half is uphill - front runners can go too fast downhill and not get home uphill, particularly on soft ground. Fol Hollow also has another front runner to cope with Northern Bolt has won over CD, acts on soft and is only a few pounds worse off than the fave....last time the two of them met in a seller here Northern Bolt won by 3 lengths with Fol Hollow 2nd !

  8. Re: BBOTD - Tues 26th June 2012 NA 7.35 - Sublime Talent - win at 7/4 bog PP Has won his last two chases and looks to have taken well to the bigger obstacles. Acts on soft ground and his wins have been at todays trip of two miles The other two fancied ones both look like they need further and the soft ground could expose their jumping, neither of them look fluent My horse showed a good turn of speed to win last time and this could well come down to a sprint finish as they probably won't be going very quick on the ground

  9. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

I much prefer the new Sporting Life site. Old one was terrible imo. People always hate change, especially when you are used to it and how it works etc. The old shows like Form Factor are going to be incorporated into the rolling news show but not actually boxed off for 45 minutes/an hour. It really should be a lot better
Obviously, Rat, I'm playing victor meldrew these days since i reached 60 a few weeks ago........... The main gripe on other sites regarding ATR is that the Racing Replay has been cut to 45 minutes which they've worked out is not enough time to show all the races if there are a few NH meetings That doesn't bother me personally as i never watch the replay show anyway I'll probably be OK with the programme changes once it settles down As regards the websites my problem is particular - i neeed to have the screen magnified to 200% to read it comfortably - both here on PL since the upgrade and on the new life site I can't see the whole page even with scrolling side to side. I have to reduce the magnification to a point where i have difficulty reading it As an example - on the Life if looking at a racecard now I can't get to the links on the left hand side of the page without reducing magnification On Pl i can't see the right hand third of the league tables on the comps (it's better now with the google docs as you can open them in a seperate window !) So for me personally (though I readily accept that not for every one else) these 'upgrades' invariably make things worse
  10. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

New look At The Races starting Wednesday
I don't know much about it but I hear that all our regular programmes like Irish Angle, Form Factor, Sunday Forum etc have got the boot to be repplaced by a sort of 'rolling news desk'........... I'm probably not going to like it I tried to be upbeat but I don't like the 'new' PL I don't like the new Sporting Life as from today People just seem determined to mess around with things that aren't broken...........
  11. Re: BBOTD Monday June 25th Chep 4.30 - Rocky Reef - win at 8/11 bog PP Only a handful of runners here and my selection appears to be the only one who is guaranteed to act on the ground, having finished a close 2nd on soft going last time at salisbury That was over this 7f trip and both his career best runs have come at 7f He's still a maiden and to be honest looks a bit like a born loser, should have won last time but didn't So not really one that you ought to be backing at odds on - don't think I'll risk any cash ! But if he's ever going to win a race, this should be it

  12. Re: Flat season - Too difficult to profit? Cheers for the info Chris.........this 48 hour thing happened while I was on an extended break from the sport so i wasn't aware of the arguments around it Having come back and found it in place I liked it at first because I could look ahead a couple of days giving extra time to pick and study any races of interest But I'm going off it because of the non runner thing !

  13. Re: Flat season - Too difficult to profit? Good point BH.......I've just put my BBotD up for Ponty tomorrow. My horse will probably run because he acts on heavy but it wouldn't be a surprise if there were half a dozen non runners and it becomes a totally different race and with R4 my horse will be half the odds it is now and odds at which i wouldn't have bothered with it Non runners are a real pain................. Personally 48 hour decs are meaningless to me as i study the next days races in the evening, so 24 hours would be fine What is the argument for 48 hours ?..........is it just to assist the papers, websites etc to get info up and printed or online ?..........can't really think of any other reason !

  14. Re: BBOTD - Sunday 24th June Ponte 2.40 - Wisemans diamond - win at 8/1 bog bet365 Two times CD winner who's the only one in the field with a course win to his name Last 2 wins have come on soft and heavy so the prospect of more rain won't worry (unless of course the meeting is abandoned !) At the age of 7 he needs a career best to win off 66 but he has won off 64 and 65 in the past and his last win was by over 2 lengths off 62 Although he always runs in class 5 events recently this is a poor one and is effectively a drop in grade from his last few runs

  15. Re: bbotd wednesday Worc 5.40 - Mavalenta - win at 7/4 skybet Won nicely at Ffos las a couple of runs ago before floundering on heavy ground last time. Back on better ground and a left hand flat track I'm hoping he'll resume his progress Got top weight here but has won under 11-12 in the past so looks like he can carry the weight Wilde Ruby has taken a big hike in the weights and has a penalty so ends up 19lbs higher than her winning mark LTO. That win was over half a mile further on soft ground and she might get outpaced here Cresswell bramble is up half a mile which might suit but is also up 10 lbs for a narrow win in a lower grade last time
