  1. Re: Weekly NAPS competition | Saturday 23th May Bev 3.15 - Company Asset - win at 8/1 bog bet365 2yo conditions race for fillies. The Hilary Needler - used to be a Listed race and one of the handful of big 2yo races before Royal Ascot. It's star has fallen in recent years with new Listed races coming into the programme and it's now a Class2 My selection comes from the Kevin Ryan yard who have won this 3 times in the last 8 years. She finished 3rd on debut, 3 lengths behind the horse that was the impressive winner of the York Listed race last week, Has the potential to come on a bundle for that run as she was given a typically bad 'Frank Spencer' ride, yanked to the back and only put in the race late. Ran on nicely Bad draw to overcome which is probably reflected in the odds

  2. Re: Weekly NAPS Competition Friday 22nd May Bath 4.25 - French Encore - win at 20/1 bog wm hill 2yo novice race Difficult to see beyond the favourite here. Dream Dreamer is a typical early season speed merchant who will go well until the better ones come out. The race she ran in behind Besharah at Ascot looks like it's amongst the best 2yo form seen so far and even at Evens (current price) she looks a good bet and I might well back her. But for the comp I'm going for a bigger priced one........bit of an unknown as she's had two runs in France which is maybe a pointer to how things are going. Even a relatively small yard like Stan Moore is sending their early 2yo to france for the much better prize money. The last race she ran in was the equivalent of todays race.......an early season race where previous winners could enter (ie not a maiden race) and the winners prize money was over 3 times todays prize. She won a maiden over there then finished 3rd in that conditions race behind two horses who had won 3 races between them. If it hadn't been for the NR this could have been a good EW bet but now down to 7 runners I'll go win only

  3. Re: Weekly NAPS Competition: Thursday 21st May 2.10 Good - George William - win at 33/1 bog wm hill 2yo maiden The current favourite, In Haste, has had a couple of runs but doesn't look up to much. The other one that's run, Captainthunderbolt, might be my selection if we didn't need big priced winners. At 7/1 he's tempting as Meehan's runners often improve for their debut outing However looking at the bigger priced ones I'll take a punt on Hannon's apparent 2nd string........they seem to beat the 1st string every now and then, more usually in handicaps when Hughes is on the one who's weight he can do and punters just assume it's the 1st string because he's on it

  4. Re: Weekly NAPS Comp ''Wed 20th May 2015'' 4.00 Ling - Macs superstar - win at 20/1 bog betvictor Claimer First time I put this horse up was on his first run over hurdles during the first week of the new comp.......obviously he fell at the first Has the second highest OR in the field and can go well fresh.........he has some decent form in class 3 and 4 handicaps If he puts his best foot forward he should figure here but the doubt is that he might be turning into a bit of a rogue........apart from that first flight fall on hurdles debut he also refused to go in the stalls last time at a flat meeting No doubt that's why he's 20/1

  5. Re: Weekly NAPS Competition: Tuesday 19th May 2.10 Chep - Sophistica - win at 8/1 bog bet365 2yo maiden Unraced Hannon horse making the market here - his good ones often win first time out but they would normally be running at the top tracks. Difficult to see this one as one of his better ones and his run of the mill types often need a run or two Another Boy comes out of a decent looking maiden at Newbury and must have a good chance here. The only thing putting me off is a report that he looked a bit awkward at Newbury and maybe this tricky undulating course might not suit him My selection comes from Channon's yard - his runners often come on a lot for their debut runs and this one showed some promise on debut before fading

  6. Re: Weekly NAPS competition | Monday 18th May 3.00 Sou - Whispering Wolf - win at 10/1 bog betvictor 2yo maiden - very poor race The two market leaders here are drawn against the rail. They've both had a couple of runs and are already exposed as pretty useless but this is a shocking race so one of them will likely win However I'm going for what appears to be the best of the rest with a low draw and only one run to her name. Still has a chance to come on for the run and maybe overtake the two that have run twice. Of the two market leaders I favour Rampers, the 2nd favourite, as the only colt in the field.

  7. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I get the impression that AO'B only runs his 3rd, 4th, 5th string horses in the UK trials so he can gauge how good the British contingent are likely to be His first strings either run in the Guineas or in the Derrinstown No idea who his main Derby hope will be this year.......he's still got over 20 horses in the list of runners. Maybe he'll surprise us and run a couple that no one is talking about......

  8. Re: Weekly NAPS Competition: Sunday 17th May Ripon 2.45 - Racing venture - win at 12/1 bog bet365 2yo Seller Newcomers here from Burke, Easterby and Evans. Who knows if they're any good ?......generally horses that start off in sellers tend to be poor. There's a few that have run in one or two maidens, generally down the field and are now dropping in class. My selection ran last in a Pontefract maiden but has had a month to be trained some more and grow a bit. Pontefract is a tricky course for an inexperienced horse so maybe he's better than he showed there Quite expensive compared to the rest in this field and the trainers runner's usually come on for a run

  9. Re: Weekly NAPS competition | Saturday 16th May Newb 3.45 - Yuften - win at 25/1 bog bet365 Group one mile race - the Lockinge My selection is a lightly raced 4 year old who showed a lot of promise last season Won a maiden by 7 lengths at Newmarket then finished 5th in the King James, 4L behind Kingman, and 2nd in the Jean Prat (disq) so he doesn't look far off a group one horse. He's won fto both racing seasons to date and the yard are flying Would perhaps be a surprise winner but looks better than his odds

  10. Re: Weekly Naps Comp ''Friday 15th May'' 2015 2.10 York - Silk Bow - win at 9/1 bog bet365 early Listed race for 2yo fillies there hasn't been a great deal of 2yo races for the pecking order to be established yet and it seems a bit early to be having Listed races......most of these will probably end up in class 5 nurseries with a mark too high to win from because their trainers ran them here. Silk Bow looked very green and useless on debut in the Brocklesby then improved significantly to win at Chelmsford 2nd time out. The well beaten 2nd finished 3rd in the Lily Agnes at Chester next time. She seemed to win with a bit in hand that day and still ran a bit 'fizzy' so can improve again and should be more to come.

  11. Re: Weekly Naps Comp ''Thursday 14th May'' 2015 York 4.20 - Blue Aegean - win at 7/1 bog boylesports 5F sprint for 3yo With this being a very fast, flat 5 furlongs it might just play into the hands of my selection who is an out and out speedball front runner. She improved a lot over the winter on the AW finishing off with a close 2nd in the AW Championship Has a bit to find on the figures here but is still 3rd favourite with the two in front of her more suited by six furlongs it would seem Catch me if you can !

  12. Re: Weekly Naps Comp ''Wednesday 13th May'' ~ 2015 4.50 York - Areen - win at 7/1 bog skybet 2Yo conditions race Only 4 runners declared and my selection is the outsider of the field and the only unraced horse Comes from the Kevin Ryan yard and Ryan tends to run his best ones at York. The fact that he throws this one straight into a Conditions race without running in a maiden suggests he thinks a lot of him There are two previous winners in the field - Ravenhoe is looking a bit exposed after 3 runs. He won the Brocklesby but the form of that looks patchy. He's also won a small race at Newcastle after finishing 4th at Newmarket. Has experience on his side but a 10lb penalty for the two wins looks difficult to overcome. The other winner, Black Magic, has a 5lb penalty for a decent win at Ponty but he did have the run of the race there against the inside rail and the way he bounded up the hill suggest he has plenty of stamina which this track generally doesn't favour The other runner is the likely favourite from Hannon's yard, Dheben, He finished 2nd on debut at Newmarket in what is usually a decent maiden and Hannon's horses usually come on for the run. I prefer him to the two penalised runners but he's another who looks like he already needs 6 furlongs having been outpaced at Newmarket before running on again I'll take a chance on the Ryan horse being one of his better ones and ready to run as he's running him here rather than in a small race at Thirsk or Catterick

  13. Re: Weekly NAPS competition | Tuesday 12th May Bev 2.25 - Lathom - win at 8/1 bog stan james 2yo maiden With a couple of the ones that have already run and are fancied drawn wide this could be an opportunity for a newcomer My selection looks like the first string from Fahey's yard........even if he's not the other one is drawn widest of all. He's got a sprinters pedigree and yard have had debut winners this season. Bathos should come on for his Windsor run and be suited by this stiffer track and softer going but I'm thinking he might not show his best until he gets 7 furlongs General Alexander ran 3rd in the Brocklesby but that form looks patchy and he's drawn wide The other newcomer I like is Flying Pursuit........Easterby has had a first time out winner and he does like to have winners in Yorkshire as a Professional Yorkshireman
