  1. Re: Nap of the Day - Wednesday 18th March 2015 4.45 Warw - Flaming chamer - win at 11/10 bog bet365 Handicap chase over around 2 and a half miles on heavy going My selection won nicely last time after returning from a break. The trainer was called in to explain the improvement in form and said that the horse had been treated for ulcers during his absence (nice to find these things out after the event !) Has won twice on heavy ground, has won here over hurdles and this looks a relatively easy task with only 4 runners Last shot appears not to get this trip if the conditions are testing and he might struggle in the latter stages Morning Reggie is another who might struggle with this trip as he weakened out of it the only time he's gone over 2 miles and his damsire's progeny average winning trip is under 7 furlongs.......in other words he's sprint bred on the dam side

  2. Re: Nap of the day 17th March 2015 Exeter 3.55 - Carraig Mor - win at 5/4 bog wm hill What a fascinating little novice chase ! Only 4 runners over 2 miles 3 and a half furlongs but it's a tricky little puzzle to try and unravel I'm discounting the big 50/1 outsider leaving 3 to concentrate on Two of them, my selection and Leo Luna, are front runners dropping back in trip so they're bound to go hell for leather to try and make it a test of stamina against the speedier Dunraven Storm Normally I'd go for the speedier one here on the basis that the two stayers will go off to fast taking each other on and if the speedier horse can stay in touch he should cruise past when they tire But Dunraven Storm had a really hard race last week trying to keep tabs on Un Des Sceaux until grinding to a halt and pulling up. I'm sure he's going to need more than 7 days to recover from that ! Of the two front runners my selection has the higher rating and yet gets 6lbs under the race conditions. He's also run here before and finished 2nd so the track should be Ok for him

  3. Re: Five Furlong Races at Southwell Just resurrecting this thread as I've had an EW punt on Amber Crystal at 28/1 in the 3.45 Only 6 runners so a quarter odds 1,2 Drawn in stall 1, front runner, no course form but best on soft ground on turf, 2 lbs above last winning mark and has won over 5.5 furlongs so hopefully will run all the way to the line. Big odds because it's not run for 6 months and finished down the field in it's last couple of outings last year 28/1 was too tempting........:lol I'm hoping it had just had enough racing and needed a break which it's now had. Bit of a worry that the first 3 home in the first race on the card, 5F handicap, all came from high draws........6, 8, 9 in a 9 runner race. I've not really been keeping my eye on these races recently so I don't know if this is a one off or if the draw bias has swapped around !

  4. Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th March 2015 3.20 Taun - Martin cash - win at 5/2 bog bet365 handicap chase over 2 miles My selection won at around this time last year coming back from a similar break of 3 months and has ideal conditions today, two miles on a sharp track on decent ground. He usually runs in better races than this and drops to a class 5 today The likely favourite is Ballyegan who looks like an admirable horse who always gives his best.He won over Cd last time but was a bit lucky with the likely winner making a bad blunder at the last fence. He's really a 3 miler and might get done for toe in this small field ......again he was lucky last time in that a few of them took each other on and his stamina came into play

  5. Re: Nap of the Day Competition - Sunday 15th March 2015 4.15 Navan - Fine Article - win at Evens bog betvictor Novice hurdle My selection has the best form in the race having finished in and around horses that ran OK at Cheltenham. Last time out he was 2nd to Roi des Francs who was placed in the Martin Pipe off a mark of 139. My horse is rated 133 which seems realistic and al his rivals today are rated in the 120s The Mullins horse might be a danger although obviously no stable star as he took 7 rules runs to get off the mark

  6. Re: Nap of the day 14th March 2015 4.05 Kemp - Port Melon - win at 9/4 bog wm hill Novice hurdle over 21 furlongs The two market leaders come from the Henderson and Nicholls yards and both of them look like real staying types The favourite is Henderson's Sugar Baron, unbeaten and quite impressive winner of his novice hurdle debut at Newbury. As it turned out though he didn't beat much and as both his runs to date have been on soft or heavy ground it remains to be seen how he handles faster ground. Has to carry a 6lb penalty for that Newbury win My selection won a couple of points then all 4 of his hurdles runs have ben been in Grade races, three grade 2s and a grade 1 In a couple of them he's only been beaten by 5/6 lengths so should be capable of winning in this lower grade. I suppose the main worry is the possible lack of pace.......a slow run race and a sprint finish wouldn't suit either of the market leaders, both of who look like stamina is their strong pint. If the race is a crawl the Irish horse, Brod Na Heireann looks like he might be a speedy type with a decent sprint finish

  7. Re: Nap of the Day - Friday March 13th Fak 2.20 - Jonnie Skull - win at 13/8 sportingbet Selling hurdle A couple of these are miles clear on the ratings and one of them should win The favourite, Flying Phoenix, is probably the better of the two and gets weight being a mare, but she hasn't run for 15 months, so you're taking a chance on her race readiness. My selection is race fit from the AW and has won over hurdles a few years ago although he's by no means a regular over the sticks. This track and ground should be in his favour as a confirmed front runner and he'll probably get his own way up front. Hopefully he can run the legs off the favourite if she's a bit rusty

  8. Re: Nap of the Day - Thursday 12th March 2015 Towc 1.55 - Leaderofthedance - win at 15/8 bog wm hill Mares novice hurdle over 21 furlongs A couple of these are clear in the market and my horse is currently 2nd favourite The favourite is Presenting Lisa who has won a bumper here but folded tamely over this trip at Huntingdon last time and is not sure to get home on this stiffer track.......although the better ground might help My selection is also a bumper winner and similarly there is some doubt as to whether she will relish tis longer trip on a stiff track However she has the slighter better form on RPR and her last run was much better than the favourite's.......finishing 5th in quite a decent looking maiden at Taunton, The 3rd has since won and the 6th has been placed. That form looks OK

  9. Re: Nap of the day 11th March 5.40 Sou - Spowarticus - win at 11/10 bog wm hill This looks a bit easier than the last race he ran in and he won the time before that Confirmed front runner who should get his own way out front in this small field. No worthwhile Southwell form but his trainer has plenty of runners and winners here so I'm trusting he knows the horse will handle it Main rival Hab Reeh ran well here a week ago after a break, finishing 2nd. He might come on for that and be dangerous but his record suggests he might better these days when the pace collapses in front of him on soft ground or a stiff finish to bring the leaders back Can't see that happening today - I think my horse will slow it down and kick from the front.

  10. Re: Nap of the day 10th March 1.45 Sedge - Fiddlers Flight - win at 6/1 bog coral Novices handicap hurdle My selection put up his first worthwhile form last time up over this CD. He finished well to take 2nd in a similar race to today. The 4th and 5th both won next time out Although he's 9 years old he's only had 8 career runs so he's fairly inexperienced and if that last run was a sign that he's getting his act together he could go one better today Storm of Swords appears to be well though of as he keeps going off favourite in better races than this but he's mainly disappointed........it's difficult to figure what his trip might be. He usually runs over further but tends to weaken over any trip he runs at.

  11. Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 9th March 2015 2.40 Sou - Rear admiral - win at 11/8 bog stan james novices handicap chase over 17.5 furlongs My selection has improved with each run back from a two year absence and finished 2nd last time, beaten under 2 lengths. He would probably have won if not lugging left at the last fence so a change to a LH track should suit There's a couple of front riunners here who should make a solid pace so the fact that my selection stays a bit further shouldn't harm him Obversely I'm a bit worried that the main danger in the market, Midnight Chorister, might be not be suited by a fast pace as he looks an iffy stayer........sprint bred on the dam's side and wandered around a bit when getting off the mark in a poor race at Fakenham. On the plus side the yard is in great form and my yesterdays NAP winner, from this yard, had a similar profile and just lasted home.

  12. Re: Nap of the day Sunday 8th March 3.05 MR - Ultimatum du Roy - win at 7/2 bog bet365 3 mile plus handicap chase I'm not overly keen on the favourite here - Trafficker. He's a CD winner in a poor race last time and he's facing much better horses today. He's lightly raced and could be an improver but I'll take him on this time My selection is stepping up in trip and there is some concern about him getting it......he's won over 2 furlongs shorter here on heavy ground and there might not be much pace on today with no obvious front runner.......so I'm banking on him getting the trip. If he does then he's a course winner who often runs in better races. Ran into a hotpot last time when 2nd and won the time before with the 2nd and 3rd both running well to frank the form next time.

  13. Re: Nap of the day 7th March 2015 Sand 4.20 - Traffic Fluide - win at 6/4 bog betvictor 2 mile novices handicap Improving young chaser. faced an impossible task on his british debut against the likes of Pitt Zigg, Josses Hill and Dunraven Storm but ran OK over a trip possible too long for him Next time he went off favourite for a hot handicap and just appeared to not stay the 2 mile 3 furlongs at Ascot. Dropped in trip next time he easily accounted for today's rival Seventh Sky in a handicap. That one reopposes on much better terms but my selection looks to be improving and seventh Sky looks a bit exposed now.

  14. Re: Nap of the day Friday 6th March 2015 4.25 Leic - Kerryhead Storm - win at 13/8 bog bet365 2 mile handicap chase with 2 in form horses and 2 out of form horses Not surprisingly the 2 in form ones are joint favourites and I'm expecting one of them to win Ignoring the usual vicissitudes of chaos that encompass our unpredictable sport and therefore assuming each of the horses puts in a performance it's an interesting little puzzle We have a two mile specialist (Kerryhead Storm) who's wins have been on flat or sharp tracks against a horse that has won over 3 miles at Towcester (Bravo Riquet) and appears to be a stayer. He did win over 17F at Plumpton recently on heavy ground but even then the Post remarked that he really needs further and the heavy ground helped him beat a poor field Leicester is a pretty stiff track with possibly the last half mile at least being uphill and the going is soft So will the flat track two miler get home or will the stayer rattle past him as he tires in the finish ? Or, more likely, will one of the two outsiders win......:lol I think my selection is better handicapped, usually runs in better races and is much less exposed ......normally I'm tempted by the stayer in matches like this but today I'm going for the speedier horse. (Bit worrying that the racecourse guide that I use says "The course is prone to becoming soft or heavy in the winter months, so stamina is much preferred to pace")

  15. Re: Nap of the day 5th March 2015 Sou 4.25 - Oriental relation - win at 7/4 bog bet365 In cracking form at the moment, CD winner, plum draw, front runner who stays 6F........everything you want here on the 5F track at Southwell Taking advantage of the timing as he's due to go up 8lbs in the handicap for his recent form but can run here off just 2lbs higher than his last win and 4lbs lower than his last run when he carried a penalty Sleepy Blue Ocean looks better in big fields where he can weave through late on and the leadrs are coming back to him after taking each other on It Must Be Faith looks OK but has no course form and has also started slowly in his last two races

  16. Re: Nap of the day 4th March 7.15 Kemp - Gunner Moyne - ew at 40/1 bog skybet Maiden race Going with one of the outsiders having his second run after showing some promise on debut. Held up in last then ran on late to go 5th. Apparently has no chance with tonight's favourite who was 2nd in that same race, but his odds are massive compared to the odds on favourite Andrew Balding introduces a newcomer who might be an EW shot but his debutants tend to need a run so he might be of more interest next time This looks a weak race otherwise and I can see my selection running into the places

  17. Re: Nap of the day 3rd March 2015 Newc 3.20 - Ha'penny Woods - EW at 16/1 bog bet365 Novice hurdle The odds on favourite here escapes a penalty for winning last time as it was a Conditionals race, but he's only rated 112 so doesn't set a very high standard for the lightly raced types to aim at My EW selection is currently 4th favourite and is having his second outing over sticks having finished 4th last time. He was about 12 lengths behind a 128 rated horse which would put him in the same ballpark on form as the odds on favourite.
