  1. Re: Nap of the Day - Thursday 16th April 2015 Chelt 3.50 - Lamb or cod - win at 7/2 bog stan james Handicap chase - 3 miles 2 furlongs, good ground My selection has been falling down the weights over the winter running on unsuitable soft ground and is now 12lbs lower than at the beginning of the season This gives him a real chance now that the ground has turned. He's a CD winner on good ground, won the Novice event on this card last year, comes from the Hobbs yards and has Dickie Johnson up

  2. Re: Nap of the Day - Wednesday 15th April 2015 2.30 Bev - Thee and Me - ew at 22/1 bog wm hill 2yo auction maiden My selection is a big price which probably suggests he's not ready for a yard that has got off to a poor start with it's 2yo - 0 from 7 so far However he is an expensive horse for this yard, which usually deals in bargain basement types. He was also the most expensive in the field and up against the ceiling for this race. I like the fact that his sales value increased the second time he went through the ring which suggest he had grown nicely from a foal to a yearling More importantly.......he's the first runner representing the magnificent Canford Cliifs as a sire.!

  3. Re: Nap of the Day - Tuesday 14th April 2015 3.45 Carl - Smoothie Press On - ew at 25/1 bog wm hill Novice hurdle Bit of a lop sided early market here with 2 short priced ones and everything else at 20/1 and above Looking for one of the outsiders to finish 3rd with a chance of winning if the two favourites slip up (one has a penalty and the other makes hurdles debut ) My selection ran well for a long way on his first start for 9 months last time out. The Post noted that he travelled well but 'blew up'. Hope fully he will come on for the run. Today's extra distance and stiffer track should suit as he's an Irish point winner.........that win on g/s ground so that should suit him today as well.

  4. Re: NAP of the day | Monday 13th April Kelso 2.00 - Mac N Cheese - ew at 25/1 bog wm hill Novice hurdle over 2 miles 2 furlongs. Going - good We have a favourite here carrying a double penalty and dropping back in trip which seems unlikely to suit as he's won over 3 miles. The second favourite is a 10 race maiden beaten over 70 lengths on both his last 2 outings and the 3rd favourite is a stablemate of my selection and making his hurdles debut My selection has had one run over hurdles and wasn't too impressive - beaten 77 lengths. However the winner that day won the grade 2 at Aintree last week and the 2nd is rated 130 This looks the kind of race where an outsider or two might be in the mix up and I'll take a chance that my selection comes on a lot for his debut run

  5. Re: Nap of the Day - Sunday 12th April 2015 Ffos 2.00 - Canicallyouback - ew at 20/1 ladbrokes Maiden hurdle over 2M 4F My selection ran well on his rules debut in a bumper, shaping with promise, beaten 7 lengths, and looking like 2 miles was a bit sharp for him. That race has thrown up winners up to grade 2 level Went off favourite in his next bumper but slipped up on the bend......ran on again but his race was over I suspect that maiden and novice hurdles at this time of year might be a bit 'after you Claude' type races because anything that wins effectively only has a couple of weeks as a Novice before the new season and they have to run against experienced horses. Do they really want to win ?.......or would they rather have another year in the Novice ranks My horse is a 7 year old and is a tall type who might be ready to go chasing sooner rather than later so maybe they're not that bothered about losing his novice status over hurdles ? Just a thought .......:rollin

  6. Re: Nap of the day 11th April Aintree 4.15 - Alvarado - EW at 25/1 bog bet365 Grand national Quite a few I fancy here ........not surprisingly ! My selection finished 4th last year and has only run once since, hopefully that was just an outing to keep him interested as he didn't do much. Stays very well and has won in grade 3 handicap company, acts on good ground and soft, has won in double figure fields.........indeed a big field might suit him Yard in good nick with 2 wins, a 2nd and a 3rd from last 5 runners and the jockey, Paul Moloney, has ridden a place in the last 6 Nationals

  7. Re: Nap of the Day - Friday 10th April 2015

Font 4.50 - Very Noble - win at 4/1 bog bet365 Handicap chase Only 2 of these look like contenders The favourite, Crazy Jack, won at MR 4 days ago and might be worth taking on. He has a penalty and has always appeared better on RH tracks (today is a figure of eight). Moreover he was driven out to win on Monday and hasn't had much time to recover. My selection won here over hurdles a couple of runs ago. He was lucky that day as the leader wasn't ridden out because the jockey thought there was another circuit to go. Should be better suited by today's ground and has come down in the handicap since his last attempt over fences last summer.
I think I might get this in the Stewards room.........:unsure

  9. Re: Dosage method It's one of the methods of assessing what a horse's optimum trip might be by allotting figures to the main sires through the generations.......some get a speed rating, some have a stamina rating and the value of the ratings goes down each generation back The idea is that you look through the horse's pedigree and see whether he has mainly speed or stamina influences and tot up the values I've never used it Is it readily available for anyone who wants to look at a particular horse ?

  10. Re: Nap of the Day - Thursday 9th April 2015 Aintree 2.50 - Silviniaco Conti - win at 3/1 bog bet365 Best chaser in the country on a flat track at 3 miles (well he was until Coneygree appeared on the scene !) Most of these except the outsiders and Menorah ran at Cheltenham and they've had 4 weeks to recover this year. My horse came here and won this last year after running in the Gold Cup Holywell comes here as favourite and should go Ok but hasn't quite been in the sparkling form this year as he was at this time last year when he won at Cheltenham then came here and won the Novice's grade one.

  11. Re: Nap of the day wednesday 8th april 2015 3.50 Catt - Cara's Request - win at 13/2 bog bet365 7F Claimer With the likely favourite now a non runner this looks more wide open than the betting suggests. Only 5 left and 2 of them look like no hopers My selection is 3rd in the betting but there are doubts about the two market leaders Mon Brav is now an 8yo and all his wins have been at 5f and 6f. He is the highest rated on OR but I don't like backing horses to start doing new things at 8yo........he often starts slowly and gets behind, I'm not sure he's going to be suited by a small filed race which might be tactical. I think he's better off in big fields with a strong pace where he can run on late against fading front runners Trixie Malone had a good early season last year racking up 3 handicap wins. Had the summer off and then disappointed when brought back for a couple of late season races, finishing 5th both times when sent off favourite. Seasonal debut. If she's fighting fit she's the most likely winner but she might need a run and also has a big weight for a filly up against geldings My selection has a bit to find on the ratings but is a 7f specialist, a CD winner on good and on soft, ran pretty well last time at Southwell and is a front runner who get an easy lead on a track that suits front runners

  12. Re: Nap of the Day - Tuesday 7th April 2015 3.40 Ling - Rennie Mackintosh - win at 10/1 bog bet365 6f handicap for 3yo Only 5 runners here and 3 of them making their seasonal debuts and one of the other two , current favourite Hills and Dales being a disappointing type, I'm taking a chance on the outsider of the field From the Johnston yard he won on seasonal/handicap debut in February. Was put up 10lbs for that and then the trainer ran him in a Classified Stakes. That's not really a good sign as it suggests he thought the revised mark was too much for him to run in a handicap. He did however run quite well in that race to finish 3rd Also get the 3lb claimer on today to reduce the weight a bit Hoping his race fitness will tell..........certainly think he's too big a price and I'd be surprised if he finished in the position that his odds suggest he should, ie last.

  13. Re: NAP of the day - Monday 6th April 2015 2.35 MR - Un Noble - win at 11/4 bog bet365 3 mile handicap hurdle My selection took it easy (!) in his novice races so looked well handicapped when making his debut in that sphere last time at Newcastle. Duly romped home Has been hit by the assessor with a 13lb rise but he looked a big scopey sort who might have plenty more in the tank The morning favourite, Phare Isle, is an old timer who won last time out but has a poor strike rate and wouldn't look an obvious type to win 2 in a row even though he won pretty easily last week

  14. Re: Nap of the day sunday 5th april 2015 Muss 2.55 - Silver Duke - win at 9/4 bog betvictor 9 furlong class 4 handicap My selection is still a maiden on the flat but has improved a lot over sticks this winter, culminating in an 8 length victory in a class 3 at this track last time. This looks a very winnable race with mostly exposed types coming back from long breaks. Nothing here has any particular record of going well first time out The only other one being backed is Fahey's horse, Bahamian C. He doesn't look to be well handicapped being 10lb higher than for his last win which was only by a neck.

  15. Re: Nap of the day 4th April 2015 3.00 NA - Brick Red - win at 9/2 bog wm hill Handicap chase I've put the favourite (Going Concern) up in the Cup competition but on looking at the race a bit more deeply I've changed my mind. The favourite has gone up a lot in the weights and this is a much higher class of race than he usually runs in. His last win is working out well with the 2nd and 3rd winning next time which is why he's favourite but I'll tke a chance on the grade finding him out today My selection didn't trouble the scorers at the Festival but prior to that had won a Sandown class 2 handicap and is just 4lbs higher today. In both his runs before that he had finished 2nd to Mr Mole who went off 4th favourite in the Champion Chase. Appears to handle any going on the soft of good and seems particularly suited to sharp tracks
