Re: The Jockey Thread

Did anyone see Fanning's ride on Santefisio in the 2.55 today? Somehow managed to meet trouble in a 5 horse race. Shocker.
To be honest I thought he was unlucky. The horse was travelling well and a gap was opening on the inside before a quickly weakening Silverware shut it closed. It would have been mad to start moving wide when it looked as if there was going to be a clear passage through into the home straight.

Re: The Jockey Thread Fanning did nothing wrong in my mind. Was patient and trying to preserve as much horse as possible for the finish. Just got unlucky, when the gap closed coming around the home turn. He would have given a good deal of ground away if would have taken the outside route, also making plenty use of the horse beneath him for such a move, by no means it would have ensured that the horse would have won. It's just one of those things that can happen in racing.

Re: The Jockey Thread Interview with Kieren Fallon, who is based in California these days of course. Seems things are not getting quite as smooth as he hoped over there, in terms of riding success at least. But one has to respect for Fallon to being brave and making such a brave decision to go over, considering his age. Re: The Jockey Thread Stumbled across this great piece from the New York times about jockey Russell Baze, who has ridden in over 50.000 races throughout his career - and how is still going strongly at the age of 55! It's fantastic article, interactive with some wonderful video footage in it. Well worth to look through if you got some spare minutes on your hands... Fallon's wows are worth nothing. Hard to take him serious these days. Not long ago he said those things in the article above, and less than a month later he's announcing effectively his return to the UK: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/mar/08/kieren-fallon-surprise-return-race-riding-britain "Kieren Fallon is preparing to have another go at Flat racing in Britain this season despite harbouring hopes that he might become a fixture of the sport in California. while he indicated he would enjoy extending his stay on the west coast of the US, he also pointed out that the number of high-profile jockeys already resident there would make it hard to get permanently established."

Hurdles debut for Joseph O'Brien today 3.30 Limerick - Egyption Warrior http://www.racingpost.com/news/live.sd?event_id=7248224&category=0 Should be interesting!! :lol
This was always going to happen due to his weight issues. It could be a common sight, a tad interesting it's a McManus horse too, a sign of things to come maybe?

Re: The Jockey Thread If Moore is going to be riding more of O'Brien's top horses where does this leave the Moore/Stoute relationship? It makes sense that a top trainer (O'Brien) would want a top jockey (Moore) but I thought he was Stoute's first choice jockey? Wonder if Stoute is ready to call it a day, hasn't he had health issues? On another note I was talking to a neighbour the other day who knows someone that works for Sue Smith. He said McCoy has been there riding some horses out and is looking to take out a trainers licence. I can't see it personally and think it might be duff info.

How many top class horses does Stoute have these days? I don't think he is anywhere near the force he once was myself. Apparently, Joseph is just off for a short time to get his weight back down, but I think Ryan would snap Aidan's hand off if he was offered the chance to be No. 1 jock, it would be foolish not to grasp it, well for the UK rides anyways at the very least.

He doesn't seem to get that many decent ones these days but still has support from Cheveley Park, Highclere, Ballymaccoll Stud and a few others. I've thought for a while that surely it's just a matter of time before Moore goes to O'Brien as No 1 jockey, money talks and he gets to ride the best horses in the best races. I remember when you could rely on Stoute to have a decent classic horse and would like to see him given some firepower to take on the likes of O'Brien, Godolphin, Qatar Racing etc.
