Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July

Recommended Posts

5.20 Newmarket 'Kerrys Requiem' Very, very unlucky last time out. With a clear run and better 'pilotship' should go very close. Admittedly on running does not seem to be crying out for a drop to 5fl, I can however see Tony Culhane having the horse closer to the pace and kicking with a burst at the furlong pole, making up for his mistakes last time.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July Newbury 14:20 - Icelandic 1pt win (for BBOTD purposes) Think the ground is key to this horses chances today and he should like the soft ground, steps back up to 6f where he is a previous winner, he stayed on well over 5f behind Nota Bene LTO, this race is a bit of step up from that but he showed some class when winning the Wentworth Stakes towards the end of last year, is capable of going well here.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 2:05 @ Market Raisen - Cootehill. 1pt win. Looks like a competitive little race and there's one or two with chances, but I'm opting for the lowly weighted Cootehill today. This lovely Gelding absolutely romped home at Stratford the other day, the winning lenghs something like 7, 40-odd, 80-odd lengths to the next horses. Its due to go up in the weights for this, but takes bottom weight as this is a step up in class. Acts on the ground which is officially good to soft but I expect to see it go softer after this race. Also a proven winner over this trip and further, so no stamina worries for me. Fav is an obvious danger with the pilot also but I have doubts about this ground, add to the fact that its done all its winning in class 4's and is unplaced in anything higher this looks to be a step up. The topweight also has some nice quotes in the RP, trainer seems confident of a nice run, but I'm going to swerve as its carrying a lot of weight for a re-appearence, despite being proven to act in this company.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 4.35 Ripon Nevada Desert - I think the pace is likely to come from the high numbers with Fesko and Celtic Step here, so am on Nevada Desert who is drawn next door. He's done little this year but acts on heavy ground and his mark has dropped down nicely, 3 lbs below his last win. Providing Fesko and Celtic Step line up, he looks to have a chance. EW.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 6.40 Haydock Lady Luachmhar 1pt win She's running for the first time for her new trainer today. R Fahey is currently in good form having 6 winners from his last 20 runners, he has a strike rate 23.8% (25 winners from 105) in 3YO handicaps this year. On Lady Luachmhar, she won last time out at Ripon in a 1M 1F maiden on good/soft going. The going today is soft and the distance is 1F further, she should be capable of staying the extra furlong and should handle the going.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 240 Market Rasen : Rupestrian 2pts Win 98 Rupestrian, 91 Pure Crystal, 88 True Brittania Rupestrian has won three of these 3yo hurdles, what he has beat is open to question and last time did look a touch temperamental so the question is do you take a short price carrying the double penalty although the conditions of this race do favour the fav as the penalties are combined so not carrying the full amount and also the jockey takes 7lbs off, has been odds on in the last couple of races so this represents better vaule. Of the others that have ran over hurdles Pure Crystal looks the one to improve but the debutant Tropical Bachelor was the best of these on the flat so must be feared and also Royal Max from the Evan Williams yard.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July Newbury 15.25 With the going being soft as it is today i'm oposing the FAV's in this super sprint( :loon ). Only two horses have run on anything like todays going being Stike Shot and Eternal Instinct. I think Eternal Instincts win LTO on good/soft wasn't as clear cut as it seemed, a four runner race in which she had a 5lb claim on board. I think Strike Shot has a good chance on the the going his only win came over 5f in a Haydock maiden against some fancied horses, the step up in trip LTO didnt suit and I believe the trip & going can bring him into contention for a big run.:ok 0.5pts E/W available around 50/1 with hills

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July Hayd 3.25 - Red Avalanche - EW Looked like a good prospect early season but lost his way running on firm ground. Only win was on good to soft so hopefully will handle conditions today. It's probably going to be a slow run race on the ground and this one can front run - hopefuly they'll be going slow enough that he can run all the way to the line. On firm ground he's appeared not to last home, presumably because the pace is a lot quicker.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 3.35 Newmarket Raggle Taggle win Raggle Taggle won a conditions race over todays course and distance on good to soft last month. She beat Pretty Bonnie into second by a head that day and despite the rise in the weights can repeat that performance again today. Jack Mitchell claiming the 3 lbs will be significant.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 3.25 Newbury Monsieur Chevalier he lost his unbeaten record last time out at royal ascot but had won his previous four starts before this. I hope he can bounce back to this form today and with the good form Richard Hannon's horses are showing at the moment i make this my bbotd.:hope 2pts supernap

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July lady rangali 330 rip. 0.5 pts ew. not certain to stay, espcially on this softish ground, but i think she can have the race run to suit and can then go well. drops to a mark of 81 and does handle the ground with cut in it, so with seb sanders a good jockey choice and with being around 14/1, i think she is worth a bet.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 2:20 Newbury - High Standing - Back Has racked up a hat-trick in good races, including a good win in a really competitive race at Royal Ascot lto. Form of that race looks rock solid. Won 4 of last 6 races in which he has never been outside the front 2. Looks to have a monster chance here, woth War Artist being the main danger 1pt win

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July CAPABLE GUEST 4.30 Newbury. 0.5 points each way. Has yet to win a race, but still looks capable of doing so and with being dropped to a mark of 78 and with running into a bit of form lately, I think he can go close. The trip and ground wouldn't be a concern and so if running his race, he should be in the fight for the line.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July GALA CASINO STAR 4.35 Ripon. 1 point win. Can be a frustrating horse, but fitted with a visor today and if that works then he should be able to go very close. Stays on an attractive mark of 84 and the trip and ground holds no fears, so let's hope the visor works and then we should be tough to beat.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July Crime Scene 3.55 Newbury (EW - SUPER NAP) Won at Newbury on 27th October 2008 off a rating of 107 and that was on soft ground and in a Group 3 race when beating Ivy Creek. It has placed 2nd over 10f on gd-fm early in its career but seems to need cut in the ground these days. Recent poor form has coincided with gd-fm ground and in its last 3 races on gd-fm it was 6th of 6, 11th of 12 and 12th of 12. Its last win was on gd-sft at Nad Al Sheba and it was 1/4 length 2nd there in February on good ground. On good-sft at NAS over 12f it beat Age Of Reason by over 4 lengths, next time out on the same track and over the same distance but on gd-fm saw it beaten 21 length by that same horse. Dettori normally rides but is on the stables 1st choice today which is a short price fav, Ahmed Ajtebi takes the ride on this one. It seems better over 12f than this 10f and is above its career and last time out winning marks but seems over priced due to the stable having 3 selections in this race and this seemingly being 2nd or 3rd string. Effective on its day on softer ground and given a chance today at 16-1.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 16.35 Ripon - Gala Casino Star Dropped down in grade to class 4 today and been fitted with visors for the first time. Stable and jockey has been in great form all season. Its almost back down to a winning mark, last won off 83 at York last summer in a class 4 race. Going off just 1lb higher here today so I can't see that troubling the horse too much. Has had a few close calls this season off of 84 with its form being 236 in its last three races.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July 3.55 Newm MUTAJARED Loves soft ground, and I feel that is a big worry for some of the other runners. Willie Haggas's horses are running well (already had a few places today) and Ryan Moore is a very interesting jockey booking. This is a weak listed race, and there are ground concerns for many. Mutajared ran a lifetime best on soft ground, so wont be inconvenienced. WIN

Me bets a non-runner :( So ...... 4.30 Newmarket 'Gala Casino Star' Running fairly well on last few runs, seems to be out every week so I think they want a win, trainer/jockey in form, hopefully the visor does the trick.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day Sat 18th July Haydock 7:10. Capacity. 1 point LAY This is a weak 2-y-o maiden race, which won't take much winning. The selection will start favourite on the basis that he from the Mark Johnston stable and he put in a decent performance first time out. However, on that same basis he was backed down to favourite second time out, and ran poorly. I think it's risky to go for short-priced favourites in these races when the form is so sketchy (4th and 5th) particularly when no-one knows how he will run on expected soft going. There are a few improving horses up against him, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see at least one beat him.
