Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship

bowles10 please give us another JELLE KLAASEN :loon :loon
glad you remember it!! There was a few on it at the time! form normally counts here so need to look at the recents BDO results to have a chance there is someone called Joey ten berge from Holland making his debut & he is the highest ranked dutch player in the tourney? 80/1 with skybet. Might be worth an e/w shout. 1st round tie with Atkins is closer than it looks with Atkins as big as 33/1 himself.

No he hasn't mate. He's in this. Strong rumour is he's moving over in the New Year though. There's a couple of big priced players I've noticed which I'll look into in more detail after the darts tonight :ok.

His form is pretty good Ted. Had a decent Grand Slam last month. Strong rumour that he's going to join the PDC this year though and I don't know how players who reach the SF's and final stand because I understand they have to sign a contract saying they'll stay with the BDO if they get that far or something like that. Saying that, it didn't stop Mervyn King :lol but might be something to bear in mind. I'm sure Gaz will clear up that situation :ok

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship i'll go for Martin Webster again Kev, he was different gravy last year. I saw him play live when i was there & he was excellent an e/w opn Joey Ten berge at a massive 80/1 skybet is my other bet at this stage. Later in the tourney may play the total sets played markets & correct scores.

Edwin Max is the top Dutch player Bowlesy, he's seeded 8. Right I'm taking 3 outrights to begin with at decent prices and I'll have them for their quarters too. 1pt ew R.Wagner to win BDO World Championship 50/1 Stan James 1pt R.Wagner to win 1st Quarter 7/1 Stan James Robert Wagner made the semi finals in the Winmau World Masters before Scott Waites took him out. He's a player who has had experience on the Lakeside stage and has had some results on it too, he's made the 2nd round on all 3 occasions he's been here beating players such as Gary Robson and Co Stompe before losing to the likes of Ted Hankey and John Walton. He's got a tricky 1st round game against Gary Anderson but he beat him on the way to the semi finals of the Winmau so that won't phase him. The draw would open up big style if he were to beat Anderson who has never really performed on this stage like he can so at 50/1 I'll take the Norwegian each way here. 1pt ew S.Bunting to win BDO World Championship 125/1 Bet365 1pt S.Bunting to win 3rd Quarter 25/1 Bet365 A few years ago when I played youth darts for Buckinghamshire this guy was highly talked about. He eventually became the British Teenage Champion, a tournament which was previously won by James Wade and Kirk Shepherd and we know where they are now. However since then he's not really had too many big results. On the occasions he's qualified for Lakeside he's looked really nervous and barely performed but the word on the grapevine is that he's confident this year and is playing good darts. If he can perform on the stage like he's capable of then he could well take out a few players. He's got Gary Robson in the 1st round and he's never the most reliable in the world especially if Bunting can become his best buddy before they play ;):lol and if he can get past that one then again the draw might open up. On his potential 125/1 is a big price and in a tournament which I think is wide open I'll have a small ew bet on the Cheshire player. 1pt ew K.Ratajski to win BDO World Championship 150/1 Bet365 1pt K.Ratajski to win 1st Quarter 28/1 Bet365 Krzysztof Ratajski is the 1st Polish player to qualify for this tournament and on the face of it you wouldn't think anything of that but he's already won a tournament on the BDO circuit this year. He won the Denmark Open in August. I understand from contacts I have who follow the BDO scene closer than I do that he doesn't play all of the tournaments but in qualifying for this event he beat Mike Veitch who has been around the BDO scene and had good results here in the past, and also Robbie Green who made it on the TV in some PDC events so neither of those are mugs. He's another one who if he can go on stage and play his normal game could well come through a couple of rounds and with the 1st quarter having the potential to open right up if Anderson loses to Wagner then 150/1 outright and 28/1 for the quarter are bets well worth taking.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship I will post selections up later tonight but once again the quarter bets are all messed up for the second year on the trot. It looks like the bookies have made an error by putting Montgomery/Phillips/Robson/Bunting in the wrong quarters. Montgomery being the 10 seed should be in quarter 3 and not quarter 4 as the bookies have him in and Robson being seed 6 should be in quarter 4 and not quarter 3 or at least to my understanding.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship 2pt E/W Dave Chisnall to win BDO World Championship 200/1 SkyBet 2pt E/W Dave Chisnall to win 4th Quarter 33/1 Boylesport Unknown to most this lad has been playing some cracking darts this year, culminating in his first win in the Isle Of Man Open, which is one of the hardest tournys to win due to the number of entries. He came through the qualifiers to get here and was never under any pressure at all.A slow thrower who will manipulate games by slowing the pace right down, scores heavily and is quite accurate on his doubles. First up he's got Adams, and his debut on the stage, which seems to be the hardest match on that side of the draw and if he can get through that one his confidence will be sky high.Unfazed by any player and a little bit arrogant to boot this young fella has every chance.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship I've heard a bit about him when I looked around doing some research Sharpey. Might well back him against Wolfie on Monday. I won't be having too many bets in the 1st round, I'll wait and see how everyone is playing before I get really stuck in. Hopefully my outrights will get through the 1st round. I see Bobby George has mentioned the Polish guy I've put up as his dark horse.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship Complete cock up once again. As I said earlier there is a mix up in quarters 3 and 4 and 4 players are in the wrong quarters. Therefore I dont quite know how someone can have someone like Bunting to win quarter 3 considering he is playing in quarter 4, mind you he probably has just as much chance of winning quarter 3 as he does of winning quarter 4. It concerns me though as ideally I want to place quarter bets in both of those quarters yet I cant. Anyway just two outrights. Montgomery 20/1 var 2.5 pts e.w It says a fair bit of how far Montgomery has come this year that he is now only 20/1 for this event. A couple of years ago he was 100/1+. However this year in particular he has shown some very impressive form. He has won 3 events this year and reached another final with the international open for which the final stages were televised and for which Montgomery looked good in. He has beaten some big names this year two including Anderson a couple of times and Webster recently at the World Masters where he was a q/f having come through the hard way. Looking at his draw, he faces veteran Welshman Phillips who will test Montgomery but who Montgomery near his best should beat. Hankey/Woods are not the most reliable opponents in a poential last 16 game, and Webster shouldnt scare him in the q/fs given Montgomery's recent win over him. The man from scotland could well have a good world championships, indeed an all scottish final between Montgomery and Anderson wouldnt surpise me. Atkins 33/1 var 2.5 pts e.w Atkins is a player who has always impressed me on the BDO scene and he has achieved decent results both on the floor and on the stage. His form this years seems respectable. He recently reached the last 16 of the masters only to just lose a cracker to eventual champion adams with a 100 average, he also reached the semi of the british open to only just lose to Anderson, the semis of the swiss open and the q/f of the welsh open. Looking at his draw he faces the dutch youngster ten berge in round one who has the potential to cause trouble although he is not the most consistent like so many of the dutch players. Robson/Bunting similarly I think Atkins at his best would be too consistent for. It would then get much tougher with Adams potentially awaiting and a player who Atkins has very nearly beaten on a big stage at the masters this year and in a great game at the worlds a few years back, only to lose in final set matches. However Atkins is a good enough player to go quite well in the worlds this year and certainly the q/fs at least look a good possibility.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship Just one match bet for me on the first day. Have to confess that i do not know an awful lot about some of the players nor my actual selection for the opening day but will give it ago. Ratajski 15/8 boy 10 pts The polish qualifier will be the first pole at the lakeside and whilst I have never seen him play, nor know that much about him, judging by some of his results he might not be a mug as perhaps one at first glance might be inclined to think. The pole reached the semi of the czech open this season and also has had a tournament success when winning the denmark open beating some good players on route, kantelle and roosenbrand. Perhaps his most impressive achievement though was qualifying for this and its never easy to do that. He beat on route the well known Scot Veitch and also the scouser Robbie Green who is fairly well known from both the PDC and the BDO where he has played well early on this season. So judging by that he cant be a mug and if he can translate those results to the stage, he might cause trouble for Max. Max has been on the scene for the last couple of years and has never greatly impressed me. He may well have improved this year because he has done enough to be the no.8 seed and has reached a few q/fs this season but last year at the worlds he lost 3-0 to Whitlock with an unspectacular mid 80s average and there will be a lot of pressure on him here in a match he is expected by most to win, that may well benefit the Pole.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship I'm going to go with my outright bets for tomorrow and also throw in a handicap. Stakes are staying small in this 1st round though. 2pts R.Wagner to beat G.Anderson 9/4 Totesport I've pretty much said all I need to in my outright write up about Robert Wagner but he's a big price to win this match given that Gary Anderson has a poor record here by his standards and given that Wagner beat Anderson at the World Masters last month. With all the uncertainty surrounding Gary Anderson and a switch to the PDC his motivation for this event could be even lower than normal. Wagner's highly capable and should be confident of winning this match after doing the Scot at the Winmau so he's worth a bet in this match. 2pts D.Larsson +1.5 sets to beat T.O'Shea 15/8 Betfred I don't know a huge amount about Daniel Larsson but Wikipedia says he reached the semi finals of the Europe Cup in 2006 beating O'Shea and Phillips along the way which shows he has some talent. He came through the qualifiers here and beat Paul Gibbs and Stephen Bunting along the way. He also beat Steve Farmer who took O'Shea to a deciding set in this round last year. Tony O'Shea is a good player and showed his form in reaching the semi finals in the World Masters but he's been known to have a struggle or two in the early rounds here and he's another whose motivation would be under question with PDC switches around the corner. It's Larsson's 1st appearance here but if he gets stuck in then O'Shea is someone you can take on with a handicap and I'll go for the Swede to grab a couple of sets here. 2pts K.Ratajski to beat E.Max 15/8 Boylesports I've also said all I need to about the Pole in my outright write up here he takes on a player who's never really done much on the big stage. Ratajski could be anything really but of the 8 seeds in this event if he had to play one in round one he's definitely got the best one to play. Max was soundly beaten by Whitlock here last year and while I don't expect the Polish guy to be that good the word is he's good enough to win this so I'll have a small bet on him to win this match.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship @kev Do you really think, Anderson will lose against Wagner back to back? I can´t believe it. No bet for me. Personally I hope Gary whitewashes him. Wagner is a former Austrian and I played against him twice in 1997 (Softtip- European championships & national Championships). I lost both games, that wasn´t an upset... But I still hate him for his arragance:@

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship These are the results from 2006, 2007 & 2008 from R1. 2006 16 matches 3-0 = 7 times (43.75%) 3-1 = 6 times (37.5%) 3-2 = 3 times (18.75%) 2007 15 matches (1 bye) 3-0 = 8 times (53.33%) 3-1 = 4 times (26.66%) 3-2 = 3 times (20%) 2008 16 matches so far 3-0 = 5 times (31.25%) 3-1 = 7 times (43.75%) 3-2 = 4 times (25%) Overall totals over 3 years from 47 matches 3-0 20 times 42.55% 3-1 17 times 36.17% 3-2 10 times 21.27% personally i think these stats will only help me if for example 3-0 doesnt come up for a few rounds & then i will back blindly 3-0.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship Does anyone else like Wagner to hit the first 180 of the match? (13/8 @ skybet). In every game i've seen Anderson play he has started slow and taken a few legs to get warmed up, with questions about his commitment to the BDO now and him not always living up to the hype at the Lakeside, i'd have thought this line should have been a pick 'em, I'd take that price on Wagner anyday.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship 2 for me tomorrow. 3pts S.Waites to beat R.Smith 3-0 11/8 Coral Scott Waites is on fire at the minute. He's made the final of the last 3 televised BDO/WDF tournaments. One of those was the World Masters where he came so close to winning the event, eventually losing to Martin Adams in a deciding set. From what I've seen of Waites this year he's looking really good and the 19 year old Smith is in for a tough task here. I've had a look at the recent events on the circuit and I can't find any decent results for Smith and looking through his qualifying section I don't recognise the names of anyone he's beaten either. So far the qualifiers have been outclassed in this event with the exception of the Polish chap but I think Waites will be way too strong for the Kent player and will win this 3-0. 3pts A.Norris to beat S.West 7/4 Boylesports Alan Norris is a Swedish player who's done ok on the circuit recently. In the Zuiderduin Masters he made the quarter finals having came through a group which included Martin Adams, the Winmau champion the week before. He also went well in his home event the Swedish Open making the semi finals there. Steve West, like his brother Tony is never the most realiable and can be fantastic or pathetic. Norris is meant to be a consistent sort which should be what is needed to beat the erratic West. I don't think I could be backing Steve West at odds against, especially this short so I'll have a small bet on the Swede to take him out.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship I will add another one. It's probably a bit immoral but we're here to make cash at the end of the day I guess. 10pts J.Walton to beat S.Greatbatch 1/2 VC Shaun Greatbatch is hoping to make his comeback on the Lakeside stage having been out since the British Open receiving treatment for bone marrow cancer. Apparently this treatment has made him 4 inches smaller and 2 stones lighter :eek. If that's true, and it's on the BDO website so I guess it is then I can't see how Greatbatch can compete here. John Walton is a solid campaigner and having been a champion here in the past he knows his way around this stage. I'm sure it will be tough for John Boy against a fellow England international who I expect will struggle but at the end of the day this is the world championship and he'll know he has a job to do. I wish Greatbatch all the best in his recovery but really and truly this should be buying money if such a thing exists and I'll reluctantly get involved and take the Yorkshireman in this one.

Re: Darts: 2009 BDO World Championship Two tomorrow: Walton 1/2 vc 10 pts Would consider handicaps or correct scores if offered on this game due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the match. Unfortunately as has been well documented, Greatbatch is suffering with cancer and darts clearly isnt his top priority atm. I wish him the best in his recovery. For Walton this might not be that easy a game given the circumstances but being a former world champion, he should be professional enough to do a job here. Even if Greatbatch was 100% I would favour Walton here and I expect him to win. Robson -1.5 sets 5/4 cor 10 pts Robson has been around for a while and is a fair player. He once won a major when winning the WDT and has been a former q/f in this event. Granted he isnt the most consistent player of all time but he is capable of throwing good darts in patches in spells. In contrast Bunting is never a player who has convicned me. Granted he is young and may well have matured and become a better player of late, indeed his recent results arent as bad considering he won the North Ire event. not to long ago. However on TV in the past he has really struggled both in the uk and in holland. He did win a match once here and against a good player in Voort but it was an awful match and an 81 average was good enough for Bunting in that game although it wasnt in his next game though when he lost to Hankey. Robson might well have too much class for Bunting and may well win this game with a bit to spare.
