Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 8:15 Doncaster: Estemaala 1pt win 9/4 Betfred Estemaala looks a well bred filly and having joined David O'Meara is likely to be ready for her first outing with Kieren Fallon in the plate. The form of her debut win reads well and there is a good chance she can improve and be better than a mark of 73.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Newmarket: Rye House: 1pt win 7/1 Paddy Power The trip may be a touch on the short side however the likely strong pace and the stiff uphill finish should play to Rye House strengths. He is a lightly raced sort and there could be more improvement to come from this four year old who comes from a line whose offspring usually develop. Sir Michael Stoute is in fine form and Richard Hughes is an excellent man to have aboard in these handicaps where judging pace is all important. 2:20 Goodwood: Jehannedarc 1pt win 9/2 Ladbrokes Jehannedarc looks interestinh here on debut for Ed Dunlop. She ran well here last Summer when trained in France and a reproduction of that effort on ground that is likely to suit should see her go close. Both Ed Dunlop and Graham Lee have been going well over the past couple of weeks. 2:55 Goodwood: Democretes 1pt win 8/1 Bet Victor & I'm So Glad 1pt win 16/1 William Hill Democretes has been on the premises off this sort of mark for his last few runs. He looks like the step up to suit to seven furlongs will suit. sometimes horses can flatter to deceive by running on late, however Democretes is in form as is his yard and he looks worth siding with. I'm So Glad was stepped up in class after a couple of nice wins last summer. She might just appreciate this drop back to handicap company and she is reunited with Charles Bishop. The trip and going look fine. 3:50 Newmarket: Garswood 1pt e/w 25/1 Bet Victor (1/4 123) Garswood did not appear to be stopping over seven furlongs in the Free Handicap. Garswood has proved his race fitness and he clearly trained on. Its not unreasonable to think there could be more to come as his last win was his first try at seven. There are proven top class performers in the field and other darker sorts that have won small races. However, Garswood pulled away nicely from a group of 100+ rated sorts last time. Richard Fahey has got off to a fine start and Garswood could go close.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:50 Newmarket: Ollie Olga 1pt win 59/1 & 1pt place 8/1 Betfair Ollie Olga was found to be in season when she ran in the Fillies Mile in September last year and trailed in last. However, prior to that run she had put up some very solid results winning the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood and beating Sky Lantern in the process. Ollie Olga also won her two previous outings. Ollie Olga would surely be much shorter in the betting if she has trained on, and particularly if the being in season was the complete explanation for that loss. At the price she looks worth chancing and could go well in a race which has thrown up a few shocks in recent times.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Salisbury: Castilo Del Diablo 1pt win 13/2 William Hill & Mysterious Man 1pt win 9/1 Ladbrokes Castilo Del Diablo looks to be a horse very much on an upward curve. The going should not be an issue as he has won nicely on a firmish surface at Newmarket. And he signed off last season with a pleasing win at Kempton. This extra distance looks likely to suit and he looks still to be on a handy mark. Similar comments can be said about Mysterious Man. He wws even considered good enough for a crack at a Group Two last back end yet lines up here off eighty four. Andrew Balding does pretty well here and with Jimmy Fortune in the plate a good run looks on the cards. 2:35 Newmarket: Dank 1pt win 6/1 Ladbrokes With Sir Michael Stoute's record in this race anything he runs has to be respected. Dank looked to be progressing well last season and if she can pick up the thread again this year, Dank should go close. Sir Michael has his yard flying at the moment and Ryan Moore jets back from America and is in the saddle. 3:50 Newmarket: Ollie Olga 1pt win 59/1 & 1pt place 8/1 Betfair Ollie Olga was found to be in season when she ran in the Fillies Mile in September last year and trailed in last. Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Ffos Las: Third of the Third 1pt win 13/2 Coral Third of the Third has joined David Pipe and like his father he seems able to improve horses transferred to him from other trainers. Third of the Third ran pretty well on his last outing for David Evans and would not need to improve much to figure. Running in the colours of course owner Dai Walters its reasonable to expect a good showing today.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Chester: Breton Rock 1pt win 6/1 Bet365 Breton Rock is out of the handicap and races on different ground to his previous two wins. However, it would be reasonable to think that he can go better on this sounder surface and with David Simcock in fine form a good run looks on the cards.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:45 Chester: Assizes 1pt win 12/1 Paddy Power & Halfsin 1pt win 16/1 Bet Victor Assizes had a fairly moderate season last time around and as a result gets a little respite from the handicapper. Also this firmer going may suit better today. With Mark Johnston going well his horses can often spring back to form and a handy draw will help Assizes cause. Halfsin has a very similar profile having had a modest season in 2012. He has been aquired by Dr Marwan Koukash who makes some shrewd purchases, so presumably Halfsin has been showing enough to convince him and his advisors he is worth the money. Could pop up at a biggish price if recapturing his old form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:45 Chester: Seanie 2pts win 10/1 & Laffan 1pt win 12/1 Bet365 Seanie looks interesting for David Marnane who has a fine record with his English raiders. Seanie looked to have nice pipe opener at Naas and he will be primed and ready to go for this. Laffan has put up some creditable performances in some decent races and reunited with Amy Ryan here looks capable of a good run. If he gets away well he might take some catching from a good draw.
