RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Back after 2 weeks away with one on the AW tonight: 8.55 Wolverhampton 13 runners are lining up for this Class 6 handicap over 1m1f, and it looks to be a quite competitive event so we are trying a double figured price animal: Soldier Field (12/1 Bet365) - Several of the horses in this race are in decent form but are all upped in handicap mark. However, this horse is dropped a further 2lb and has a 6lb advantage being a 3yo in this contest. Furthermore, the excellent William Buick takes the ride for the first time. Finishes its races well but has been stopped on 2 of its last 3 tries on the AW. Ignore lto as raced on turf and 3 runs ago when trip was too far. Still a maiden but I think it has several positives tonight - right trip, right surface, decent draw, excellent jockey, good racing weight and some poorly handicapped rivals. Can't ignore the 12/1 being offered.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Last 2 have been losers so need to get back to winning ways today. 3.55 York 11 runners line up for this Class 2 handicap over 6f. 4/1 the field so looks relatively open but I feel that many of these are too high in the weights and will struggle to win off their current marks. The big danger to my selection is Wyatt Earp but I cannot back it as the fav, so I'm going for an old favourite: Fayr Jag (15/2 Betfred) - Down another 1lb so certainly capable of winning off this mark. I backed this in the Great St Wilfrid but I think the difference today could be the firmer ground and the jockey, with David Allan back on top. Has won a G1 in its heyday so clearly the best of these on old form. Ran well in the Stewards Cup 3 starts ago, ignore the Ripon run as DA was not up top. Lto at Beverley, it ran a good race finishing well over inadequate 5f after being hampered early doors. Over 4 years since it raced of a mark below 100 as it does today so should be well there today. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Well, it's been a hat trick of poor selections. Sorry guys:$ Bet for Wednesday runs at the seaside, let's hope it's not a donkey: 5.35 Yarmouth 7f handicap with 17 runners so hopefully no drop outs and 4 places paid. Pretty low grade, a Class 6 handicap with 3 lto winners in the field. However, I'm sticking to the top weights and having an EW punt on: Lincolneurocruiser (RPF 8/1) - This horse has won off 71 but today races off a mark of 60, its lowest ever. However, contrary to belief, I do not think this horse is on the downgrade. Has its trip today of 7f and a very eyecatching jockey booking in Richard Hills. Ridden in its last 2 outings by amateur Stephane Breux who took the horse to race alone in both its outings which almost certainly affected its placings. If the horse had keep with the main group in both those runs, I'm sure that the form figures would look a whole lot better and we may have been looking at the favourite! Those 2 efforts suggest to me that the horse is ready to strike, as well as the fact it reappears only 10 days after those runs and, most importantly, races for the first time in this grade, Grade 6. Poor event really and, if the visor continues to work, I think this horse is in with a great shout. Suggest taking 17/2 or 9/1 if you can get it early doors:ok

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Under the floodlights for 2nd and final bet for the day: 8.50 Kempton With 1 NR, 13 go to post for this 7f Class 5 handicap. Some decent types in here but, at the prices, I'll go for: Tender The Great (12/1 Betfred) - Consistent sort who has yet to strike on the AW but has some decent placed efforts to its name. In the frame on 11 of its 24 career starts. Drop down in trip tonight which I don't foresee being a problem as this horse has won over 7f and should get a good pace. Has inside draw so may need luck in running but is going the shortest way round. Excellent jockey in Richard Quinn and dropped 2lb in handicap despite a never nearer 4th lto. Dropped into Class 5 for tonights race and has won its last 2 in this grade, one of those over tonights trip. 10 starts this term, winning 2 and placed on 4 more occasions. Of the 4 unplaced efforts, was 4th on 3 of those starts with the other being at HQ on soft ground. Very consistent, can win off this mark and drop in class makes 12/1 a very tempting bet. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Just the one bet for Thursday and then nothing until at least Monday as I am away for the weekend with the family. Back to the seaside for: 5.10 Yarmouth Big field of 17 line up for this Class 6 handicap over 6f. A few in form runners near the top of the handicap and I'm going for: Norcroft (RPF 7/1) - One of 3 runners in the race for its trainer and this is the most fancied of the 3. Ridden by the promising Kirsty Milczarek, this horse has a fine chance. Down to its lowest ever mark despite the consistency of recent efforts and this horse has won off marks much higher than todays. Trip / going are likely to be fine, and AW / Turf comes all the same to this horse. Admittedly, struggles to win often enough but always thereabouts and seems to have its conditions today. Loves the course with a win and 2 places from 5 tries, jockey has won on the horse once with 5 placed efforts too from only 8 starts, and has a great record in this grade with 2 wins and 7 places from just the 10 tries. Too much in its favour to ignore and advice is to get on early at anything around 7's.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Onto Monday and just the one bet from the East Midlands track: 5.30 Leicester 12 runners expected to line up for this Class 5 handicap over 1m. Open race and difficult to rule many out so I'll be chancing a double figure priced horse in: Rubenstar (RPF 10/1) - Mark Tompkins' only runner today and has a good chance here. Races off a mark of 73 today, having won off both 74 & 75 in the past. Looks to be coming to hand with 2 decent runs on its last 2 starts, despite not being drawn ideal. 1m trip suits, despite having only won up to 7f. Now dropped in grade to Class 5 which could be a significant point, as is the jockey booking of Jimmy Quinn. Is drawn much better today too and has its ground also. Goes well at this time of year and looks an eyecatching EW bet at the price.

Pleased with this bet, and ran as I expected. Could maybe have done with a stronger pace. Disappointed a little at SP but still a profit. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Over to Yorkshire for Thursday's bet, with a wide open big field sprint: 3.20 Pontefract Big field of 17 currently expected to start this Class 5 handicap over the minimum trip of 5f. Some in form horses here but not a race to be taking any short prices about so I'm going EW on: Back In The Red (RPF 12/1) - 1 of 5 3yo's taking on their elders today, but this one looks to be the horse most likely of taking this for the younger brigade. Low draw usually helps here so stall 6 looks to be ideal for a horse that normally breaks well and races up with the pace. Has risen up the handicap in the light of back to back wins but mark has steadied following 2 runs of 4th on last 2 starts. Lto was in Class 4 but dropped to Class 5 today off same mark. Previous to that, looked all over the winner 1f out but evidently didn't get the 6th furlong. Conditions sure to suit today - all 3 wins coming over minimum trip which it faces today, is 2 from 6 on todays going of G-F and all 3 of its wins at this time of year. Never won before August. The drop in class could be key here and I'm expecting a big run at double figure odds.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Last one unplaced, sorry guys. Onto today and staying away from the big meeting and going up to Scotland for the last race on the card: 5.45 Musselburgh 14 runners going to post for this Class 5 handicap over the round 7f. 2 lto winners head the market but both are raised in mark so looking for something at bigger odds for an EW bet: King Harson (10/1 SportingBet) - Front runner who loves it here. Could go very well today if getting to the front from its middle draw of 7. Won twice here last term, 1 of the same mark as today and the other off 6lb higher. On old form, is the best in the race having won off 82 in the past. Goes well for todays jockey and races over best trip of 7f. This is Bethell's only runner at Musselburgh today and I'm very hopeful of him coming away with a winner. Looked like signs of a return to form when 6th of 17 lto when dropped into this grade. Ran well that day from a poor draw in a much more competitive heat than this. This track suits more and has several other thing in its favour....trip, jockey and class to name 3. Both jockey & trainer have good records at this track with older horses so 10's looks a huge price if it build on lto's promising run.
