Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Things have been very quiet now for a couple of weeks, with the weather wreaking havoc. However, back today with a runner in the heritage handicap at the Eclipse meeting: 2.35 Sandown Fingers crossed that all 17 declared runners line up, so we get 4 places paid. Class 2 race, over 1m: Pride Of Nation (15/2 Corals) - 1 of only 2 Cumani runners today at Sandown, and I think this has a super E/W chance with Spencer up top and the stable in form. This is a top class handicap IMO, but I am happy to oppose the unexposed 3yo's and go with one of the proven older horses. Trends seem to favour this horse (thanks Bowles10). The horse generally travels well in its race which is suited perfectly to this jockey. As regards recent form, has been there or thereabouts finishing 6th lto at Royal Ascot when both ground and trip were against this horse. Previous to that, finished an excellent 3rd in a Listed handicap at York on its seasonal reappearance under todays conditions - 1 mile on g/s, which is ideal for this horse. Still progressing and has lots in its favour.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Nice 4th today with Pride Of Nation, taking the early 15/2, and it went off at 5/1. Profit today and, with the weather changing, hopefully some proper bets for next week. Current situation:- Staked = 1290.00pts Returned = 1756.73pts Profit = +466.73pts Yield = +36.2% Bets = 130 Winners = 20 (15.4% s/r) Places (incl wins) = 52 (40.0% s/r)

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) And just the one today, up in the north:- 4.50 Ayr 12 runners for this Class 4 handicap over 9f. Very open event with a 3/1f, and 6's bar, so I'm looking for something E/W to take these on with: Bajan Parkes (9/1 Corals) - Drawn reasonably well in 5, and good jockey booking in Kevin Darley who has ridden this horse the last twice when appearing to be ready to strike soon. Tries 9f for the first time, but this is probably the trip it needs judged on last 2 races over a mile where it has been staying on from the back best of all. Unexposed type with only 7 career starts to date. Dropped a further 2lb from its good run in the Carlisle Bell lto, and previous to that was a fast finishing 4L 5th in a better race than this. Reopposes fav Prince Evelith here and is 5lb better off for less than 4L with extra furlong suiting Bajan Parkes more. So, off a lower mark and this an easier race, with step up in trip, looks set for a big run.

3rd at 9/1 early price:clap Finished well but too far off the pace. Not sure another step up would be in its favour, just needs to be produced earlier. Still, happy with a profit.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 2 bets to open the week, from either ends of the UK: 4.45 Bath 17 runners start this Class 6 cavalry charge handicap, over the minimum trip. I like horses with course form at Bath, and my selection is one of the 2 C&D winners in this race: Jucebabe (RPF 12/1) - A middle draw is generally an advantage here, and 12 of 17 looks to be perfect. This horse is dropped 2lb and is now back on its last winning mark, with Franny Norton on top as he was on this horses only 2 wins. Has improved race on race this term and looks ready to strike, but has had excuses all 3 runs so far - 2 at 6f (better at minimum) and poor ride at Lingfield where it had the worst of the draw. Is 2 wins & a 2nd from 6 tries at Bath, with 2 of the unplaced efforts coming at 6f. 2 wins & 4 places from 11 tries at 5f, with just 1 place from 7 tries when tried over other trips, and 2 wins / 2 places from 8 Franny Norton rides. Jockey is also 4 from 7 this season when turning out for this trainer, so all things are set for a big run. 5.00 Musselburgh Class 6 handicap over 7f, with 14 runners. Question marks over the prime contenders here so I'm delving into the double figure prices for: Pay Time (RPF 14/1) - Another horse eased 2lb in the ratings, and is now just 1lb above last winning mark. Has its conditions today, in that it races over its trip of 7f and in Class 6. C&D winner, who is drawn well today, with a win and a place for 2 races here. 13 tries over todays trip, with 3 wins and 4 places, compared with just 2 placed efforts from 26 tries over other distances. In 7 tries at this trip this season and last, has won 3 and placed 3 times. Has something to prove after some 'average' efforts so far this term but clearly capable.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 2 losers yesterday, although Jucebabe was just edged out of the places. One for tonight, in the last on the AW: 9.20 Wolverhampton With 2 N/R's, field reduced to just 10 runners in this 7f, Class 6 handicap. I think all the market leaders have questions to answer, with 3yo first time in a handicap, and a 3rd fav who needs in excess of a mile in Green Pirate. Therefore, I have found a nice little E/W offering in: Plateau (11/1 Ladbrokes) - Eddie Ahern, who rode fav Benny The Bus lto, now rides this top weight. Ignore last 4 runs as it now reverts back to the A/W, so we will look at previous races on this surface. This horse has only ever raced once at Class 6, and that was the last time it ran off tonights mark of 65. Result, it won. Trip is perfect, has a nice draw, capable jockey in Ahern, doubts over the market principles - all of which makes 11/1 a super price to me. 3 runs over C&D - won in this grade (6) and off this mark (65), 3rd @ 10/1 in Cl 5 and off 70, and unplaced in Cl 4 off 72. Indicates to me that a big run is expected tonight.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Venturing down to HQ for my one & only bet today: 4.55 Newmarket Class 3 handicap over the minimum trip, with a big field of 17 runners. Open race, but have to favour those drawn high so we'll plump for: Woodcote (RPF 12/1) - Top weight here with 10st for Clive Cox's charge here. However stepped down to Class 3 handicap for only the 3rd time in handicap company. Didn't win at that level but once was poorly drawn, running a good race in the process, and the other time was too small a field of just 8 runners. Important factors for me today are the trip of 5f (only ever won at this trip), has a plum draw in 16 of 17, which is not just an advantage on yesterdays evidence, but this horse also hangs badly to the right so having this running rail will help massively. As said earlier, dropped in class and down 2lb, which is 1lb below its last winning mark. Kevin Darley gets on well with this horse, despite not steering it to victory just yet. Form figures of -808 this term look average at best, but it may just put those right in the last race at Newmarket today.

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Last selection was unplaced:$ Apologies for the lack of selections recently, but this weather is playing havoc with the racing. Much smaller fields recently in the all age handicaps, and lots of poor ground around making betting a risky proposition. :hope for better weather and bigger fields. As I've always said, no bet is no problem:ok

Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) You're right, DT:ok Ok, so onto Sunday, and we have a bet today provided the field doesn't cut up. Currently 2 N/R's in this race, but don't really want to be seeing 2 or 3 more: 3.20 Redcar 10 now go to post for this Class 4 handicap over 6f. We have a very warm odds on fav but I'm keen to oppose Spencer on this with: Prince Namid (10/1 BetDirect) - Top weight here, but has a good chance of big run here with conditions to suit. Has a decent pull with Paris Bell on their running last Saturday, and this race should suit my selection more. Not raced off a mark this low for over a year, and first time in this grade for a year (excluding AW). Likes cut in the ground and is now better at 6f which it faces today. Ran a great race at Epsom beginning of June when 2nd over 6f in a Class 2. Since then, mark too high at Hamilton, 5f wrong trip at Newcastle and Beverley, and good run lto when 4th of 8 at York. Pace was too steady that day, and counted against Prince Namid that day. Could turn over the fav today, who won on the bridle lto, but doubts on this ground and off this mark.
