MCLARKE
I always like to review my P+L at the end of each year 9th year in a row of profits Mostly driven by Price boosts £2,000, Lucky 15s £1,000 and Free Bets £1,000 In effect all my profit is driven by bookmaker offers, my "system" bets have shown a loss avongirl, In Play Race Reader, White Feather and 3 others
Trotter
Well done McLarke ! ......... 👍 I haven't got any separate figures for racing as I bet so infrequently on it ..... I do know my last bet lost ! Mainly bet on football these days and lost about 49 quid during 2023 which is my worst year for a very long time (and most of those losses have come in the last month) My main benchmark is 2008 when I opened my online account (and joined PL!) ....... since then I'm about £240 down which works out at about £17 a year losses on average ....... the first 10/12 years of that was all on horses Since I moved to mainly football I do lots of small bets whereas on the horses I'd usually only do one bet a day for bigger stakes but now I'm retired I want more action through the day so multiple small bets suits me better Maybe I should go back to the horses but just do more bets but for smaller stakes than I used to do ........ I'm obviously glad I made a profit but a bit disappointed that it is due to using bookies bonuses and that I have lost money when using my "skill" on the horses I made an excellent start with profits in 8 out of the 1st 9 months before big losses in October and November followed by a big profit in December, mostly thanks to a £5 160/1 football acca which was nore down to luck than skill I have made almost as much on football as I have done on racing this year despite not being very knowledgeable about football Zico10 and harry_rag
harry_rag
Just over 2800 points profit this year, almost 80% of it from spread betting. Let's say it's going to be difficult to replicate that next year given recent changes in the spread betting landscape. Spread profits would have been just over 3 times as much if it weren't for stake limitations. Spread betting is the closest thing you'll find to a long-term can't lose betting proposition provided you're willing to accept big potential short term losses. Imagine a market where the bookies think something is a coin toss but they routinely price one side of it at 5/4 because "everyone" wants to bet on the other side. You can't lose in the long term blindly taking that sort of value. The only question is how much the firms will allow you to win before limitations and/or closure kicks in. Fixed odds bets weighed in with a modest profit. Individual bet types that showed a 100+ point profit were anytime system bets and anytime "studied" bets, first goalscorer bets and bet builders. Given the reliance on goalscorers there it's either a nice reward for specialising or I'm a one trick pony! Bookings and rugby league were the worst losing categories but I pretty much called time on both part way through the year. Football "specials" were the only other category to cost me a 3 figure loss. 365 were my most profitable fixed odds bookie by a long way, with only the exchange coming close. Sky Bet were easily the worst (I lost more than I won with 365 and more than my overall fixed odds profit amount). Could just be random or they could have the best odds compilers! calva decoy, MCLARKE and Zico10
MCLARKE
I still have spread betting on my to do list. Given my recent conversion to football betting what would you suggest is the best market to bet on (remember I'm not very knowledgeable in this area). I made a small profit with Sky, I'm still allowed the TV money back specials and £6 weekly free racing bet (although I can't place it on anything above 3/1). harry_rag

calva decoy
I'm a small stakes fun punter rather than big time types on here & my online accounts showed a small profit over 12 months ( excluding around 12 ante post football bets & £70 free unused Sky bets ) I staked £4.966.04 with 5.020.50 returns So a profit of £54.46 . I only went racing live 4 times last year in which if I remember correctly didn't win anything but I always use ' free bets ' that I accumulate . I also through this site won around £50 in my PayPal ( many thanks ) but I actually enjoy the competitiveness more than anything . Good luck to all in 2024 , I won't be betting on any racing on Saturday's this year , just a couple of quid on the football instead . I thought someone might express that view. I'll have a think about a thread for such bets as it might appeal to those not betting on singles. I do bet singles quite a bit as well ..... but I'd like to be able to post them all in the same place, and to be able to read what everyone else is backing on the day in one place...... I don't know how feasible that would be ....... I guess it depends on how many posts there are each day but a Daily Thread like we have on the Racing section would be ideal ? harry_rag

Never bet on football in the 1st month of a new season when most teams have new players to fit in & gel together or any transfer window . Never bet on football at Xmas or Easter when teams will rest players similar too all cup games up until semi final stage , you can't predict how strong or weak teams will be . In @avongirl comp I think I'm 15 weeks without a win although I haven't bet on anything I've tipped up their .
