Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept Word of warning on my team Wolves. We have been in great form recently and would love nothing more than to get one over on local rivals Walsall. However, Doyle and Sako may yet leave by tonight and either way are both doubts for the game. Evans, Ricketts, Cassidy and Griffiths have all been called up for their respected countries and will not play. Golbourne has a slight injury. Other than that the manager Jackett has said we will be as strong as possible as we don't play this weekend due to internationals. I expect the team to be something like: Ikeme, Doherty, Stearman, Baath, Elokobi, Ismail, McDonald, Price, Forde, Sigurdarson, Mcalinden Mixture of strength and unprovens. I am not sure on Walsall's team news yet but at first glance I think we are a bit short dropping to 6/10 and drifting further in some places. It's a no bet from me but their may be value in taking Walsall with draw insurance.

Nice warning Wolf. Such a hard competition to predict with some teams playing reserve and youth players. You def need team news before betting.
I think what makes this competition interesting is the rules around putting out weaker teams etc. I think that makes it more uncertain as sides have to put out the nucleus of a good side. Otherwise they'd all play the reserves.

Its a fair point Jase but we know that clubs will find a way if needed.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept One extra point I will mention about Wolves is they have sold quite a lot of tickets today even though half the stadium will be closed. Every fan wants us to win this as one of the most cherished memories of the older generation is when Wolves in the 80's won the Sherpa Van Trophy (renamed Johnstons Paint Trophy these days) at Wembley with the biggest crowd Wembley has ever seen for something other than an f.a cup or international. Both teams to score and over 2.5 also look far too short when you look at how we went down 1-0 to Morcambe in the league cup. Far too many tangents in this game for betting to be profitable in the long run IMO. Will look at some of the other matches.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept Whats about Burton tonight at Notts County? Notts on poor Form and poor last Results. Maybe DNB Butorn is good Choice. Risk about hard games in last days/week for Burton that they tonight not fresh enough?

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept I have not looked at all the matches yet but while scanning through the games, one particular game caught my eye. Gillingham v Leyton Orient. I don't usually like to bet much/big on cup games due to the uncertainty in these games. Way too many upsets for my liking so I usually bet small stakes and do a multi on them. Normally 2 teams or 3 max. Anything more and I feel it becomes pure gambling (if that makes sense?). Using this strategy usually the downside is small whereas the upside is big. There is value in this strategy due to the upside despite the unpredictable outcomes and upsets. So for today I am considering to choose Leyton Orient as one of the team to win. Leyton is paying 2.3 for AW at bet365 against Gillingham. Leyton has been playing well lately and have won their first 5 games in the league scoring 13 goals and conceding only 2. Gillingham who recently got promoted from Division 2 is struggling in the new division. They are yet to win in this league and have not won at home yet. I don't think this is the game they will break the streak. I think Leyton will be too strong for them in this game. Leyton does have a fully fit squad and hopefully the manager will put out a strong team to win in this game. I will check for updates on this game later but for now Leyton is my pick @2.3. Feel free to give and feedback or info. Thank you.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept Hartlepool vs Bradford. Hartlepool has been poor so far in league 2 and are yet to score a goal in the goal. They only goal they scored this season is in the carling cup match against Nottingham forest when they were already 3 nil down. They will also be without their striker Steve Howard due to injury. Bradford has performed well at home so far but their away performance has not been great. I do think however they should be able to beat Bradford. For this game I would take Bradford DNB @1.57 (bet365) just to be safe.

Difficult to know mate on this one. Both sides will probably make the maximum changes possible. Both sides have injuries to contend with so a few youngsters may get game time. Probably the most important player missing for Burton tonight would be winger Chris Hussey. I know County earlier in the season had one fit recognized central defender and Captain Dean Leacock has been struggling through injury all season, so they may choose to rest him, if they can afford it. Goals look an option with County also looking to play 19 year old German keeper, Fabian Speiss.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept Scunthorpe vs Sheffield UTD: Away Win @ 29/20 William Hill - 2/10 points Scunthorpe, although unbeaten at home, haven't got off to the greatest starts only managing to beat Mansfield in their 3 home games so far. Other results being 2 draws to Newport and Dagenham. Sheff utd have got off to a terrible start by their high standards however I think with the difference in class 29/20 represents a bit of value and I think small stakes on the away win here could be well worth a punt. I'm thinking they will try to use this match as a way to kick start their season, especially as they will be one of the favorites to lift this trophy.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept Regarding Gillingham v Leyton Orient - I have a feeling that Gillingham are playing a little bit better than their league position - having draws against Bristol City, Brentford and Swindon in their last games - all teams that are good for this division. Orient have started magnificently but have ridden their luck a little in the past few games. In the last few games, teams have had some very good spells against them and on another day, might have pinched a draw. On the other side though, only one goal conceded from open play in the league (the other being a penalty). Team news is key here, but the Orient squad will not have much room to rest many players. Personally I think Slade likes this competition, despite losing in the final last year, and played pretty strong line-ups every match. Despite Orient starting the season in a blaze of goals, I can see all of Cox, Lisbie and Mooney being rested in order to give game time to others, I do fancy the unders.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept All Gills fans knew we had a horrible start in terms of games, Wolves, Swindon, Brentford, Bristol City - all tough ones. We have signed Danny Hollands from Charlton on loan to play in midfield and he should start tonight and he has plenty of experience at this level. The strikers - Danny Kedwell, Cody Macdonald and Bayo Akinfenwa have all scored so far and I'm not really concerned at all about our league position as we have played good teams and it will level out soon enough. We have been terrible in the JPT for years so I wouldn't rush to back us, don't think I would rush to back Orient at that price either though..would wait for team line-ups personally.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept 3.09/2013 Cheltenham - Plymouth ENGLAND Johnstone's Paint Trophy Today the matches will be played Johnstone's Paint Trophy in England. We look at one of these games , which will take Cheltenham vs Plymouth. In this match, we tend to side more guests Head to heads : 17.08.13 Cheltenham - Plymouth 1:3 (0:3) 06.04.13 Plymouth - Cheltenham 2:0 (1:0) 23.10.12 Cheltenham - Plymouth 2:1 (1:1) 05.05.12 Plymouth - Cheltenham 1:2 (0:1) 29.10.11 Cheltenham - Plymouth 2:1 (0:1) 05.10.10 Cheltenham - Plymouth 0:2 (0:1) Statistics last played matches versatile. On the one hand Cheltenham won three times at Plymouth in the last 6 plus full-time battles and plays at home today, on the other hand Plymouth just over 2 weeks ago here at the same stadium, confidently won at Cheltenham in the championship match 2th League 3:1, when visited by 3 goals in the gate of the home team already after the first 45 minutes of the match. And what has changed in 2 weeks ? Really nothing ! Yes, both teams started not very good in the championship, taking 21th place (Cheltenham ) and 17th (Plymouth) and missing an average for the championship is not less than 2 goals per game. But our main argument is that to the that Cheltenham has a large staff problems. So, rolling your fingers injured one of the best strikers in the club Cureton, who last season scored 21 goals; aBrown (4 games) , Elliott (5 games) and Barrett (5 games), and also at issue in the match another defender Richards (5 games). Not surprisingly, Cheltenham has the worst defense in the league 11 conceded goals. As for the guests, then the club's only injured striker Lecointe, who has not played a single game in the league and midfielder Wotton (1 game). But today, as part of Plymouth should debut newcomers Reckord defender and midfielder Bencherif. Two weeks ago Plymouth confidently beat Cheltenham 3-1 , plus the hosts have big problems in defense. Put X2 guests.. jajaja 1.67 Bet365

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept I will be taking the largest underdogs to win outright, as I always do in this competition. Some numbers from Round 1 the past four seasons... Dogs have gone 7-7-10 in that time, but it's really oddly marked, and the opposite of what happens during league play: The biggest dogs win outright, while the lesser big dogs tend to draw. It is indeed unpredictable. Using BetExp odds for all games involving favorites of 1.99 or lower: Underdog of 3.4ish to 3.99: 2-2-2 Underdogs of 4 to 4.99: 2-3-4 Underdogs of 5 to 5.99: 3-1-4 Underdogs of 6+: 0-1-0 On totals, there's a real split during that time...matches involving underdogs of 3.4 to 4.99 have ended 5-10 O/U, while matches involving dogs of better than 5 have finished 6-3 O/U. An admittedly small sample, but it's there.

Thanks. Would the biggest underdog be AFC Wimbledon over Brentford then?

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept I wasn't here to answer, sorry...I was too busy getting my ass kicked in the JPT. Walsall's odds fell in the last hour to the point where draw would have been the appropriate play there (and would have been the only winner). Northampton was killed by the early red, though seemed in trouble anyway...Accrington looked pretty good at Crewe but couldn't turn their possession into goals.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy 3/4 Sept 4pts Bristol C to beat Bristol Rovs 4/5 Coral This match is sure to be full of passion and desire but eventually quality should come through and that should be on the side of Bristol City. Usually I wouldn’t recommend taking an odds on favourite in the early rounds of this competition but this will be as close to a normal match as you’ll get. Both sides will be desperate to win but the extra experience and quality the Robins have should see them through. This is what I dont like about this competition. No where close to what I predicted. Bradford was too busy bending themselves over for Hartlepool. Got properly screwed.
