Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 5.55 - Newmarket - Four Leaves @ 10/1 Bet365 Handicap debutant here for Marco Botti and i'm hoping it can be a successful one. The 3yo filly struggled on her racecourse debut in testing ground but has since ran well twice, finishing 2nd lto, 1 length behind Keene Dancer who subsequently won well on handicap debut off of 78. Four Leaves opening mark is of 76 and i don't think that will prove beyond her. Ran well over this distance lto and the firm ground will be of help, decent jockey in Atzeni onboard and hopeful of a decent run.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August H5.05 Sam Sharp 0.5pt E/W 12/1 Bet365 This horse only has 2 career wins to its name but one of those was on good ground over c&d. It's only a 1lb higher for this race but the horse won really well that day and it's last run on good ground over a mile was a good 2nd of 12 so there's nothing really wrong with its recent form. Back at the scene of one of its best races, I can see it going really well again. The trainers runners are running well and he does well at Haydock.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August *Bernie The Bolt - Ascot 1:30* One of only two course and distance winners in the field, and that should count for something on this track. Record at Ascot is 3-1-9 so goes well here. Record over 2 miles is 3-11-1. Hayley Turner is a positive booking also. Andrew Balding has been in good nick and this horse should come to life here over this trip. *1 Point WIN @ 15/2 Boylesports BOG*

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August Haydock 430 - Willbeme 7/2 Bet365 BOG Like today's selection this looks like another horse massively on the upgrade. She ran well to finish third on her seasonal debut, when away from the pack and then won really well LTO whilst also looking like there is more in tank. Up against the same class of horses here with conditions to suit. Not so keen on the jockey in all honesty but I still expect this filly to be right up there at the finish with the price looking bigger than I was expecting.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 2.05 Ascot - 1pt win Ahtoug @ 12/1 (Boyles) I think this race could be made for Godolphin's runner in here and although I'm not totally convinced by the jockey, he has a decent record over here and given this horse has run well for Ahmed Ajtebi, I'm hopeful that he's capable of running well regardless of who is on board. He's a bit of a buzzy horse but can look good when things drop right and I just think this is ideal for him. There looks plenty of pace on in the race and a strongly-run 5f on a stiff course looks sure to be right up his street. He can race keenly so pace will help him settle and he has a good finishing kick which can hopefully see him come out on top. He has plenty of good form in the book having finishing 2nd to Night Carnation on his return last year, and subsequently won impressively off just 6lbs lower at Chester. Most things went wrong that day as he was hampered at the start (carried right). He was therefore in the rear and got forced wide again taking the turn. He made up ground widest of all turning in and stormed home to get up for an unlikely victory by 3/4l. It was a performance which suggested there was plenty more to come and that makes me feel he's fairly handicapped here. His Sandown run on soft ground was a no-goer from the start next time but that can safely be disregarded and his two runs since have been good. He ran well to be 2nd in a handicap off this mark in Dubai. That was over 6f and he nearly capitalised on the leaders going off quickly before one came home even stronger to beat him (that winner having won over further so had the stamina which paid off). Last time out he was only beaten 1 1/4l at Goodwood over 6f. He travelled powerfully (if a little keen) but didn't pick up quite as hoped. It suggested a drop back to the minimum would suit to utilise his speed. It's also possible that he was on slightly worse ground right up against the rail as the first 2 or 3 home were up the centre and other winners that day on the straight course profited from that track position. He's had a 78-day break which is a positive rather than a negative as he goes well fresh. He's only run one bad race and plenty of his better efforts have come after an absence so everything looks in his favour today and I'm hopeful of a very big run at a nice price.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 4.30 Haydock WILLBEME win @ 11/4 bog (Bet365) I had written this 7 days ago: 2.50 Doncaster WILLBEME 4pts win @ 7/1 bog (Bet365 and William Hill) Very lightly raced 4yo filly trained by Neville Bycroft who ran just 3 times: 10th of 11 on his debut in 2010, won a maiden over 7f (good to firm) at Redcar 14 months ago and made a very pleasing comeback 8 days ago when 3rd of 17 over 6f at Thirsk (good to firm) just 1L behind the winner Meandmyshadow (my BBOTD that day) who is again her main rival in this race. Willbeme should come on a lot from that reappearance and is 3lb better off with Meandmyshadow and just 1lb higher than her previous mark (61 from 60). Last time out she was standing out in the parade ring and ran very well not only because she finished 3rd of 17, very close to the winner but because she did it racing on the opposite side of the track compared to the first two and was well clear of the group that ran close to the stand's rail (more than 2.25L ahead of the second on her group and the only runner in the first 5 to have run on that side of the track). She should finally be able to build on that effort and on her favourite good to firm ground (she doesn't like it soft) she has a very big chance off 61 even if the draw is a bit of a concern again this time. Her jockey is Jean-Pierre Guillambert who rode two winners from his last 8 rides in the last fortnight and has a very good record here at Doncaster with 7 winners from 32 rides (22%) in 3yo+ races during the last 5 years. Willbeme won in impressive style that day and under a 6lb penalty this very lightly raced 4yo finds another good opportunity to win again. The main danger is Sole Danser that ran well last time out over the shortest trip and will appreciate this step back up to 6f. Sole Danser has been showing his best on the AW but his current mark on grass seems very good on current form (was unlucky also on his second last start). Still Willbeme seems way more well handicapped and easily gets my vote in this race.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 12.55 Ascot: Les Ambassadeurs Casino Shergar Cup Mile (Class 2) (1m) A very competitive opening contest for the Shergar Cup and I reckon two of our most experienced jockeys can fight out the finish. Fallon is on Boom And Bust and if he can repeat his Goodwood run he must surely go close here even from a difficult draw. I like Arabian Star with Dettori on top, he looked very progressive before his poor run last time but back on fast ground he can get back to winning ways. Selection; Arabian Star EW 15/2 Bet365

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 2:20 Haydock: Rosslyn Castle 1pt win 13/2 Bodog (Bog) A very competitive race with most of the field winning last time out and capable of further improvement. Not least Rosslyn Castle who won well at Chester and looks to have as much scope as his market rivals. Looks a little overpriced as maybe more recent form is fresher in the memory. Rosslyn Castle does go well off a break and ground conditions look fine. Roger Charlton is in excellent form.

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August Falbravs BBOTD BH, posted in incorrect place. (Specsavers) COLLECTABLE 5.45 Lingfield. 1 point win. Well drawn and should be able to run to best this evening. The trip and track suit and the handicapper gives a chance with a mark of 51. Looks quite solid in context. 6/1 Boylesports BOG

Re: BBOTD Sat 11th August 20.15 Lingfield: Dr Houseman, 12/1 Betfred, 1pt win The form on offer in this maiden isn't great so I'm taking a chance on Dr Houseman who is making his racecourse debut today. He is a gelding out of Motivator, a top class middle distance horse, who's offspring have a decent all-weather record. His dam is Photogenic, a listed winner over 7f, who's sire is Midyan. Trainer Amanda Perret has a decent record on the Polytrack at Lingfield. Eddie Ahern is in the saddle.
