BBOTD Friday 28th of October

Recommended Posts

Phidippides - Wetherby 3:20 I think this animal could be a top animal and could have a big year. It is running in a handicap for the first time tomorrow and i was really impressed when it won a Class 2 Novices Hurdle at Kempton in February 2010, it had Quanitativeasing and The Betchworth Kid behind and they are very useful. Will love the trip and the ground and the Evan Williams stable have come into form. Lightly raced and has plenty of ability, looks a nice price. WIN @ 10/1 Bet365 BOG

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October Wolverhampton 8.40 - Qeethaara - 16/1 Bet365 E/W Down to effectively a mark of 60 having won on turf over the summer off 66. Went off the boil slightly but showed a lot more lto, take away the Botti 3 year old and she's only been beaten about 2 lengths having travelled strongly. Shows she acts at the track, trip not a problem and with Ryan Clark claiming 3lbs is 5lbs lower from her run lto. Brisbourne and Clark's only runner at the track with the apprentice having a strong record riding for this stable. Not much pace on here so i hope Clark gets this one prominent from a good draw. Saver on Sahari the danger.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October Trainer Mr M.Channon's 2yr old filly was due to race about 3 or 4 weeks ago and did make it to post, however she got spooked in her stall and ended up on her back and was W/D not under orders. She was my BBOTD bet that day and am more than happy to post her up a 2nd time, if she gets on this time better with the stalls and gets to race she should run a competitive race. She was a very expensive purchase for owners Mr M Al-Qatami & Mr K M Al-Mudhaf, and am sure they would like some fun with her, if they don't get it today at HQ am sure its only a matter of time before she picks up the racing game. She is also well thought after in the her yard. Newmarket 1:20 - MUAAMARA. 1pt win bet @ SP

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 3.20 Wetherby Quartz De Thaix e/w 10/1 William Hill QDT won well first time up last season and has a good record fresh. This could be the right time to catch him. He may well prefer slower ground but he is capable on good ground. The stable are not in the best of form but they haven't had that many fancied runners running recently. Persian Gates looks the main danger and has race fitness on his side but I like the look of QDT on his first run of the season.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 5.20 Newmarket Trovare looks overpriced in the closer. He does have a poor attitude at times and isn't the easiest ride but Ryan Moore is booked to ride today and I can see this 20/1 getting smashed into in the morning. He loves Newmarket, July or Rowley, and seems to run his race here more times than not. Wasn't suited by soft ground recently on the flat but since went hurdling and won to show 2m poses no problems. He could pig this and if he turns up in body but not mind then maybe 14/1 or so would be fairer. Can see him going off about 10/1 though given Ryan has been booked to ride. The yard had a winner today and their runners are generally running well. 20/1 Bet 365, 1 pt win

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 15:10 Uttoxeter EBONY DIAMOND has big claims off a mark of 93 if the ground isn’t as quick as currently advertised (going stick and the rain they’ve had in that area suggest it won’t be). He’s been pulled out twice recently before the race when being well-backed, on account of the fast ground and I’m prepared to back him until he runs, especially when there’s a price of 16/1 available, which looks huge if the likely ground conditions materialise. He was a bumper winner in Ireland before showing definite promise on at least two hurdling starts, both when finishing 4th. One of these was this year in April at Wincanton when he travelled well, and although beaten 14 lengths, he wasn’t knocked about and looked a definite winner when facing Handicap Company. His handicap debut (his last start) was a complete no-show, after being backed into favouritism he ran no race whatsoever, but the ground that day at Huntingdon was lightning quick and he obviously didn’t enjoy it (trained confirmed this after the race) and I’m willing to give another chance off this mark, especially as there’s been plenty of rain about the Uttoxeter area. It’s obvious that they think he has ability, especially as they keep backing him and although that doesn’t mean a great deal sometimes, Charlie Mann definitely knows the time of day and Ebony Diamond looks the type to run well off a mark in the 100’s, so this rating of 93 should be well within reach. If the ground doesn’t come out right, I’ll expect they’ll pull him out again (as they have the last twice). He’s currently 16/1 and although he might take up another engagement later in the week, he’s definitely worth a bet now. Noel Fehily taking the ride is no bad thing, either. EBONY DIAMOND; EW @ 16/1 Bet365 (bog)

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October Sonsie Lass - Wol 7.10 (0.5ew 12-1 BET365 BOG) Started career with four runs for Mark Johnston, and this is only her second run for Keith Dalgleish (last time out was runner-up over CD in a claimer at 40-1!). Hard to believe that this fine young trainer won't be able to make use of a lowly 53 mark, especially since she has shown early speed on all her starts and this is only her second run over the minimum trip.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 3:00 Newmarket - Artistic Jewel - 1pt @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Hardly the most exciting Listed race we've ever seen and with doubts to be had over pretty much ever one of the runners, it's hard to be overly confident about anything. The one I fancy to run a big race is Ed McMahon's Artistic Jewel, as she's ultra-consistent, lightly-raced (like them all I suppose) and capable of improving significantly with much more being in her favour today compared to some of her career outings so far. Artistic Jewel was an impressive first-time-out winner (July 25th) when scoring by nearly 3 lengths in a modest Windsor maiden over the minimum trip. She was then sent off as the 3/1 favourite for a Listed contest over the same trip at Newbury when lining out a couple of weeks later. Things didn't go to plan as she received a bump just after the off and then couldn't quicken when brought into contention in the closing stages. She ended up getting beat by just over 3 lengths, finishing 5th of the 12 runners. She was also 2½ lengths behind today's 4/1 favourite - Bryan Smart's thrice Listed-placed Excelette. A step up in trip looked like a good move for Artistic Jewel when connections brought her to Doncaster for a 5-runner conditions race a few weeks later. However, the race turned out to be a sprint within a sprint and she had to settle for a half-length 3rd behind Richard Hannon's very useful colt Eureka - a horse who dictated a slow tempo early on and gradually wound it up a couple of furlongs from home. This didn't suit Ed McMahon's filly at all and she did very well to finish so close given how reliant on a strong gallop that I feel she is. She was also a bit unlucky mid-race and could of finished even closer if not for being on the receiving end of a few bumps when the race started to get interesting. All-in-all it was a good run and probably represented a step up on anything she had done before. Artistic Jewel got back to winning ways when scoring at Salisbury in another conditions race (4 runners) when last seen a month ago to the day. It was another unsatisfactory race for McMahon's filly, as she didn't look one bit happy on the soft ground but still managed to win a shade cosily in the end. It wasn't a great race by any means and one that she was entitled to win but she was never better than at the closing stages of the race and seemed to relish the stiff track. Today's track is quite testing too and Artistic Jewel has got plenty to suit, including much better ground to run on. There should be a solid end-to-end gallop and that's something she will also relish. The only worries I have here are how McMahon and Graham Gibbons get on at the track, as the trainer is 1 from 25 at Newmarket whilst Gibbons is 2 from 42. I know that statistics aren't the most important things in the world but I'd much prefer them to be more favourable than that. Regardless, the pair have a horse that is open to a lot more improvement, suited by conditions and nicely priced at 11/2. Small/medium win bet again, as it's very tough to be overly confident but this one should run a big race with plenty being in her favour. Previous selection Besito is worth having a little bit on too at a fancy price of 16/1.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 420 Utt: Gulf Punch 1pt (9/2 SJ) Backed this one last time at Carlisle when second to a well backed O'Neill horse, she stayed on well that day and although there has to be slight concerns about this trip, if she going to get three miles then this is the place to last out being quite sharp. The McCain yard isnt setting the world alight at the moment but cant ignore this one on a very reasonable mark.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 7.40 Wolverhampton If What And Maybe needed an uncontested lead at Yarmouth earlier in the week to get his head in front, dangerous is getting a soft lead again although not likely in this field and was falling in a heap at the line so had a hard race and 6lb penalty all make this look a massive ask but should be a good back to lay in runnin proposition for those interested in that. Pinotage 2/1? No thankyou she has horrendous attitude in a finish swishing her tail and look as if she had plenty left but only just went past Felisha in a finish at Lingfield earlier in month, ran off same mark over CD a week ago again showing poor attitude finishing well after taking a lot of persuasion and again swishing her tail, not sure this her trip although is still 5lb well in here so a chance but not for me. Bedibyes showed first piece of form last time out at Brighton that was on the back of a break so could possibly build on that but on all other form he has showed that isnt likely and shown nothing in 6 starts on the AW. Eastward Ho looks a massive contender having on what he has shown on his last 2 starts, a 2nd in a 5 runner claimer perhaps not worth much but did beat some reasonable sorts and again built on that in a competitive classified event last time out the form in front of him in that race not worked out but he was 3rd that day and beaten less than a length and 4th has since won well off a mark of 54 and he runs of 54 today with De Sousa in the saddle he looks a solid proposition having clearly trained on after break. Love Your Looks is also of interest having shown some promise in maidens especially his 3rd on 2nd start over Kempton on polytrack, 2nd last time out in a classified event looks good form again with the winner impressive and looked a class above that field and he was staying on well so the step up in trip likely to suit and makes handicap debut off a reasonable mark. 1pt win Eastward Ho 5/1 vc

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October MISTER WISEMAN 4.55 Uttoxeter. 0.5 points each way. Likes to lead and should be able to dominate today. Has a weight that's 5lb higher than his last win, but still a fair mark in context and should be able to put most under pressure if jumping well. Every chance. 7/1 Betfred BOG

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October Newm 4.45 - Parc de launy - win at 11/4 bog VC One of those rare end of season sprints where the 2 year olds take on older horses and in this case the two year olds usually win with the big WFA allowance Parc de launy is the top rated of the 2yo in the field. He won his first two starts then was well beaten in a group race and a big sales race Had nearly two months off and came back with a decent effort in a fairly hot York nursery, beaten a couple of lengths after getting squeezed for room in a big field Spencer should be able to hold him up here and have plenty of room to make a run

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 5:30 Uttoxeter - Castletown Bridge - Back Looked a good type when winning bumper lto. That was his first start for thus stable and the improvement was noticeable. He looked to win that with a fair bit in hand and you would like to think he'd be capable of following up here 1pt win @ 8/11 Hills BOG

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 6.30 Dundalk - 1pt win Gordon Lord Byron @ 10/1 (Hills) Glor Na Mara has to be taken on at such a short price given the 13 race maiden tag, and even though my selection is reasonably exposed also, he has given the impression that the drop to 6f will help a lot as he's been making good ground up with furlong or so to race, but lacking that finishing kick inside the last. He should have more in the locker at the business end tonight and in a weakish looking maiden, can get his head in front.

Re: BBOTD Friday 28th of October 7.55 Dundalk - Eastern Rules 1pt win 6/4 Ladbrokes Eastern Rules absolutely bolted up last Friday over course and distance and its difficult to see the penalty stopping him going in again. This was his first time on the all-weather and it looked to have brought out the best in him. His US breeding would certainly back this up. Previously he was running on heavy ground and tight tracks which didn't appear to suit. Short price and probably going against all my better judgment (as Dundalk is a really difficult track) but it was a taking performance and Johnny Murtagh is on board and will be doing his best with the champion jockey title in the balance.
