  1. Re: Ascot 10/05/08

3.55 Got a short list of 4 - Dazed and Amazed, Jimmy Styles, Southandwest, Rainbow Mirage The only one of them that has won a handicap before is Jimmy Styles, but he got shoved up 11 lbs for that and was well beaten off his new mark. Only down 1 lb today, so will need a career best first time out this season. Dazed and Amazed is getting to be well handicapped, but he seems like an in and out performer. Probably over-rated by virtue of an AW Listed win after which his rating went up into the 100s. Gradually falling, could just about be on a fair mark now, but you'd want to see him put in a good run. Hope it's not today !! Southandwest started in handicaps off 88 and was narrowly beaten, so 85 seems fair. Been up and down between 5, 6 and 7 furlongs but 6F seems his best trip. Had a run this season. Good EW chance Rainbow Mirage similarly started in the high 80s and has come down to 84. He probably still needs to improve a little bit to win off 84 but has conditions to suit, is lightly raced and has had a run this season. Another good EW shot. Two EW selections - Southandwest and Rainbow Mirage.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I was doing really well with my sprint handicap form study, but the last 4 selections have all gone down...........:eek It's my longest losing run.................:loon Gonna stick with it though................:)

  3. Re: Goodwood: 8 May 2008

Had some small value bets at Goodwood this afternoon. 3.00 Had a little E/W on North South Divide (50 win/9 place betfair) as I think his maiden form is under rated. Mark could be lower but overpriced on what he has done. First time at 6f here, by Namid but it remainds to be seen if it'll suit. A fractious type so the cheekpieces may help. Very much a speculative bet but could resist at the prices, small stakes.
I keep looking at China Cherub in the same race............for an each way flutter. He's been running off marks in the 80s without success and back now to 77, which seems fair. He's won off 76 and has often run to around this mark in defeat. My doubt is that he hasn't run for 4 months and has no particular record of going well fresh, but currently showing at about 25/1, might be worth an interest.

Sporting Life - Racing | Racecard, Salisbury 04-05-2008 Bet Totepool At Totesport.com Handicap 3YO handicap tomorrow......... Click on 'Restless Genius' and you'll see that his win at Brighton 21 days ago is missing from his race record. Done a bit of research and the whole card from Brighton on the 13th April is missing from the Life database and none of the runs that day show on the horses' race records......... It's a shocker !!.............:loon
My e-mail did the trick..........the results from brighton 13/04 have been input..........:clap
  5. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - 7th May 2008... 3.15 Chester - Green Park - Win Running off 88 here, has won handicaps off 88 and 90.........since then has been up into the 90's and coming back down again.........back to a winning mark Well drawn, trainer in OK form. He's run here before and finished a neck second, so should handle the tight track.

  6. Re: Mistake on 'Life' site

I used SL in the past' date=' think before racingpost.co.uk was around. I used to read the SL too before it was retired.[/quote'] Yeah.......I stuck with the 'Sporting Life' until it went under......I always thought the Post was for the Sun readers.........:lol...........it must have been the tabloid format.......... But in truth, the Post was a much better racing paper than the Life when they were both around.......a lot more features and stories. I just couldn't get used to their form layout after years reading the Life......... I used to get the Weekender for the weekend form.......the Raceform update didn't have any form in it. But i also got the Update because I preferred their pull-out Results section. I don't buy any of them now...........
  7. Re: Mistake on 'Life' site I've started looking at my next race, the sprint handicap at chester on Wednesday and I've made my notes from the Post site........don't trust the Life any more...........:loon Whilst i was having a look round I thought the 'Horse Race history' pages from the At The Races site were pretty good......... All 3 sites have features which the others dont......... Life - highlight runs after 60 day plus breaks, sort a horses race history by course or going......... ATR - show only 'unplaced' races, also days since last run on the race history page Post - quotes, chart, RP ratings. I supose if you're going into a race in depth, ya just look at 'em all........:lol

  8. Re: Racing post standard times... By coincidence I was looking for them a week or two ago when I decided to get stuck into sprint handicaps..........but I couldn't find them, nor could i find any complete listing in one place on the Life site or any other............:unsure Fortunately I still have an old pull-out from the Weekender from 15 years ago with a list of 'average' times.........and I've used that to compile a list of sprint distance course times, but it doesn't include the recent AW tracks.

  9. Re: Newmarket - Sunday 04/05/08

She did all the work for him. All he had to do was put her infront. That is the only way a Frech jock would win it. ;) If he had to tuck in or come from behind it would've been carnage. Good finish. Although Channon's would've taken it I think.
Well.......he had to get right across to grab the rail, once he got to the front he had to slow her down to conserve her energy and gradually speed up as the others came to challenge....... It's a fine judgment.......and you could say that nahoodh was only boxed in because he went the right pace to have four or five others bunched up behind and outside him.........if he;d have gone faster there would have been gaps..........
  10. Re: Newmarket - Sunday 04/05/08

Ouqba actually missed the break and ran on well to finish 3rd. But you've probably already taken the bet.
No, I haven't had a bet.........:unsure Not keen on these horses that miss the break........let's see if he does it again..........:unsure I've based my opinion on him 'not missing the break' but if he does.........mine should win even more easily !...........:tongue2:lol
  11. Re: Salisbury - Sunday 04/05/08 3.05 April Pride to win 7 runner conditions race for 2YO, four with previous runs, 3 newcomers. None of the newcomers are being backed so it appears safe to concentrate on the ones with form. Hannon has won the last 2 runnings and 4 of the last 6.......it's obviously a race he targets with his better early season 2YO fillies and he has a big team to pick from. That's good enough for me............:clap

  12. Re: Newmarket - Sunday 04/05/08 Newmarket 4.30 - Heliodor - Win 7 runner maiden event which usually throws up a couple of Royal Ascot 2yos........only 2 of the 7 have run before. Looking at the current odds it seems like only one of the newcomers is at all fancied, showing as third favourite........so it looks safe to stick with the two with previous runs. The likely favourite, Ouqba, ran in the conditions race at newmarket won by Art Connoisseur. The winner looks smart, but a couple of the beaten horses have failed to win ordinary maidens since and it just might be that Art Connoisseur didn't beat much. By contrast the selection ran a good race on his debut to finish second to the race fit and promising filly Miss Chamanda. He had to be switched twice to get a run, by which time the winner had gone and he was pushed out without much exertion to get second place. With the benefit of that run behind him I can see him slaughtering this lot today............:clap

  14. Re: Mistake on 'Life' site I did send an e-mail through the 'contact us' link...........but I got 3 replies saying that various individuals weren't available..........:unsure I have noticed several errors...........one that I posted on here a few weeks ago was a 2YO who had 3000 odds days against it's name for the 'not run since' date.........and on the horses form page it gave the form of a horse from 10 years ago with the same/similar name, I think it was called 'Grand Plan' Shame really because on the whole I prefer the layout of the Life's horse race record pages...........but you know, if you're gonna be putting money down, you've got to be confident that you're basing your selection on reliable information............ Looks like I'll have to try and get used to the Post layout which always looks too cluttered to me............

  16. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Saturday 3rd 4.15 Goodwood Lord Of The Reins - Win This one is an improving type at the bottom of the handicap, running off 73 today. Is on a good season, having won off 62. 64 and 67 and still on the upgrade. Slight concern that he's mainly run on the AW and there might be a chance he's an AW horse pure and simple, but he looked like he had plenty in hand last time and at current odds of 15/2 is worth a chance.

  17. Re: Goodwood 03/05/08 3.05 Mujood - Win CD winner, won this race last year off 84, running off 83 today. Has had a couple of prep runs and should be ready to do the business. 4.15 Lord Of The Reins - Win This one is an improving type at the bottom of the handicap, running off 73 today. 18. Re: BTP's Selections - Flat 2008

3.25 Newmarket (Heritage Class2) A fantastic 25 runner sprint handicap, this is what punting is all about. My initial shortlist here is Hogmaneigh, Genki, Damika, Tajneed, Northern Dare, Baby Strange.
I've spent ages on this race and my shortlist was 7.........:lol Hogmaneigh, Genki, Kings Apostle, Damiki, Mutamared, Tajneed, Bonus, Our Faye I'm shattered.............:lol Think I'll stick to races with fewer runners in future
  19. Re: Newmarket ~ Sat 3rd Newm - 4.00 - Damiki EW Improving type who is rising up the handicap, has won or placed in half his career runs, has won in big fields, has won at newmarket. Head 2nd to Turnkey at Ponte last time, came to win the race in the last 50 yds, but pipped on the outside Gets 7 furlongs - this could be ran at a furious pace with 25 runners, stamina might come in to play at the finish. Drawn 14 - the received wisdom is that high draws are best and most of the fancied ones are high, so he should be able to tuck in behind that group if (when) the field splits.

  20. Re: Sectional times I've always thought they were a bit over-rated.........handy for reviewing past races, but not much use for assessing the next race. For example........if you see a front runner has made all and won going away, it's handy to see if the reason is that he had an uncontested lead early and slowed the pace down, then sprinted away at the end of the race. Obviously you'd have to be wary because he might not get those conditions in the next race I guess you can also use them to suss out dubious stayers.......ie did a horse only get 12 furlongs because they crawled along for the first mile........would he get 12 furlongs in a true run race ?.......then again.........will his next race be truely run or a crawl-sprint.?.........sectional times can't tell you that in advance !!
