  1. Re: Best bet of the day 12th April 3.50 Windsor - The Jobber - EW at 22/1 BOG with Victor Chandler Getting on a bit now, the old fellow is 9 years old, but won a class 4 handicap last summer off 82 and runs off 77 today. OK, he's in decline over the long term but might still win races on his way down the handicap The drying ground has come in his favour and he ran a good race on his reappearance this year behind Lord Of The Reins on the all weather At his age he probably would need a run to bring him on Well drawn against the rail - my main worry being that he'll get boxed in by early speedsters coming across, but take a chance on that !

  2. Re: AP McCoy for Sports Personality of the year

It's interesting what are the rules of voting for the award?
The BBC come out with a short list of about 10 people, then the public vote for them Of course........the Beeb tend to promote sportspeople who's events are shown on BBC.........so they have clips of them to show ! In the olden days when we only had a couple of TV channels the 'Sports Review of The Year' at which the 'Personality Of The Year' is announced - well, it used to be a really big show with a full round of the whole of sport over the previous year. It seems to have gone downhill now and they stick loads of silly gimmicks and pointless interviews in to make up for the fact that the Beeb hardly covers any sport at all now......... I stopped watching it several years ago...............:)
  3. Re: AP McCoy for Sports Personality of the year I don't think he's got a cat in hell's chance to be honest You might argue that minority sports have won it in the past like Chris Hoy last year - but although Cycling is a minority sport (tho' one that I follow avidly !) The Olympics is BIG........and he won 3 (?) Gold Medals a couple of months before the voting. As the Olympics always falls in a non World Cup year, you can almost guarantee that an Olympian will win SPOTY. Given that britain excel in minority Olympic sports - cycling, rowing, sailing - then usually it'll be a minority sportsperson who wins in an Olympic Year. In a normal year with no Olympics then it's very hard for a minority sportsman to win it unless they're vaguely related to the Queen

  4. Re: Lay Of The Day - Sunday 11th April 4.15 Curragh - Fame and Glory - win lay This one was reported as looking very backward at the public gallops a couple of weeks ago Under normal circumstances he'd pick these up and carry them over the line, but if he ain't fit he's unlikely to give his best I'd be a lot more confident if there was some depth in the race but I'm probably depending on two horses, Gan Amhras and She's our mark to be fit and fully tuned up and for one of them to run a cracker. You'd think Fame and Glory would be heading for the Ganay in a couple of weeks time, I'm sure they won't want him to have a hard race today if he's not fully fit I hope Alfred Nobel wins the earlier race or F&G might drift in the beting if it's perceived that O'briens runners are stil not ready

  5. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Sunday 11th April 2.45 Curragh - Alfred Nobel - win at 11/4 BOG with Corals Group One winning two year old, acts on heavy ground, gets 7 furlongs and has a terrific turn of foot Because of O'brien's usual slow start to the season he's going off at bigger odds than he probably should, and he's drifting so might get bigger still (make sure you take a BOG price !) I'm encouraged by the public gallop a couple of weeks ago where the watchers reported this one as being quite forward and running well in the gallop, cruising along and going past his race companions quite easily until eased. Looks like this might be one of O'brien's that's ready to run !

  6. Re: Impressed by BBC coverage ! I listened to the build up to the race ( 2 or 3 hours of it !) on 5 live on the beeb radio............. I don't like the beeb coverage on telly or radio, but recognise that it's not aimed at me (us) but at a general sports audience for whom the Grand National is the only horse race they have any interest in I din't watch any of the Beeb tv coverage this year but in past years I've been really annoyed about their habit oof trying to find a 'human interest story' for every horse - bit like the X factor style. But I guess that's what the general audience want and it's only once a year !

  7. Re: Lingfield 10th April (AW) 2.45 Ling - Topolski - EW at 20/1 with Blue Square Partly based on 'hunch' this one This horse goes well fresh, winning his first two races last season before tailing off. He's lightly raced with just 10 career runs so is open to being an improving horse My 'hunch' is based on the trainer. The horse was with Johnston last year but has now joined the yard of AM Balding. Balding is in good form, 2 wins, 2 seconds from his last 4 runners. His two winners on the all weather have been coming back from breaks of 161 days and 253 days. Topolski comes back today after a break of 234 days. Balding obviously has his string ready first time out and add that to the horses record of winning 'fresh'.............

  9. Re: Best bet of the day 9th April

6.45 Wolv - Beat The Bell - EW at 11/1 with Coral Ran well last time to win a lingfield hcap quite impressively and comes here a fairly fresh horse after only having a couple of runs since a break Has a plum draw in stall one for a prominent runner Stable in pretty good form
Sorry, meant to claim my BOG on that one, particularly as the price is drifting................

  11. Re: best bet of the day - 8th april 8.20 Wolves - Bahamian Lad - EW at 9/1 BOG with Laddies Usually goes well here and has his second run back after a break with the stable in pretty good form Has the plum inside draw and good speed figs over this CD Got doubts about the faves - Viking Spirit is generally on the downgrade, tho' ran well last - he looks a bit inconsistant and has never run here before, which puts me off a bit Anne of Kiev - all her best form is at 5 furlongs Fathsta ran poorly last tme out but drops in class and could be a danger Wet A Surprise is in good nick and looks the main danger. I'd have him as favourite but he is climbing the handicap for getting placed.

  12. Re: Lay Of The Day - Thursday 8th April 2010 3.10 Chelt - Imperial Commander - place lay Much the same reasoning as barni - this might be too soon after the Gold Cup, he's not run well on tight tracks before (Kempton), his record suggests he's best fresh I reckon he's either going to win and confirm his superiority or he's going to bomb out. And if he bombs out then there's only 2 places up for grabs, so might as well go for the big one and do a place lay

  13. Re: Get cramming in your study now lads Cheers BH .......... Must admit that i like to use this 'Betting Site'..........but the main problem is that they often don't put tomorrow's cards up until around midnight, especially if there's evening racing. Not much use for people who have to go to bed early ! On the plus side if 'todays cards' are still there in the evening you can get the 'Race Analysis' that you have to pay for on the main site !

  14. Re: Get cramming in your study now lads The site has shut down now.........but the Racing Post 'Betting Site' is still open You'll need a seperate link to get to it.........I've got it bookmarked seperately from the RP site....... http://thebettingsite.racingpost.co.uk/ Not sure if that link will work as it's a link to my account,( tho' not logged in.) If you haven't used it before you get all the same stuff as on the RP main site........and even more because you get some stuff that's Member Only on the main site, like betting forecasts, Diomed and spotlight etc..........plus the last 6 RP ratings if you hover over a horses name. I'd be interested to know if the link works for anyne who isn't me !.........

  15. Re: Lay Of The Day - Tuesday 6th April 2010 Sou 3.10 - Tiger Hawk - lay Probably gonna regret this but it's early in the month and i can claw it back if it shoots in as expected..............:eek As low as 1/3 in places in a four runner race, but I've got a feeling that Lords Seat is going to win this. Tiger hawk will go to the front and try and make all............my only chance is that he goes too slow and might be done for speed in the finish by Lords Seat, who has some decent 7 furlong speed figs to his name. If Tiger Hawk stretches out he'll probably win

  16. Re: Best bet of the day April 5th Southwell 3.10 - Lords Seat - win at 14/1 with Betfred Only 4 runners here and an odds on favourite to take on My selection has some decent course form over 7 furlongs and has recorded some good speed figs There is a doubt wether he'll stay 8 furlongs as well as Tiger hawk, but it's a small field and I'll take the chance at the respective odds To be fair, he's had a go at 8 furlongs here a couple of times and been well beaten, so the jury is out, but I have him as definitely second best and he's the outsider of the field in the odds

  17. Re: Anita's 2yr olds thread 2010

Although' date=' it is interesting, to me, that the RP have rated Beach Patrol's debut effort as superior to Scarlet Rocks' - both on the all weather. I may have a look to see if Ladbrokes have a match bet between these two tomorrow, with hopefully an odds-against quote about Scarlet Rocks.[/quote'] On my AW speed ratings I have Scarlett Rocks - 12 Beach patrol - 2 Ivan's A star - 0 for their debut efforts................so Scarlett Rocks was about 3 lengths better !
