  1. Re: Best bet of the day 5th April 3.45 Redcar - Transmission - EW at 9/1 with Skybet Had an in and out season on the all weather, but his best runs have come at todays trip, 7F, at Southwell Look at his last run over 7 furlongs.......penultimate start. It was a class 3 handicap and he ran off 81. Beaten about 5 lengths, hampered in the final furlong Drops down two classes and 15 lbs in the weights today, must have a great chance Ran poorly last time over a mile, but he tends to do that, his win over 8F at southwell was a slow run race which turned into a sprint finish. Should be a decent lick on today in a big field and in those conditions, 7F is his trip.

  2. Re: LOTD - Easter Sunday 4th April 2.50 Muss - Haigh Hall - win lay The Fahey-Hannagan team are responsible for this fairly short price favourite in a 12 runner handicap They are a bit all conquering at the moment but I think that means this one is going off at a false price She hasn't run for 2 years after winning a maiden and finishing 5th in the 'Hilary Needler' early in her 2 year old career. Obviously had a problem to be off the track for so long No form on soft ground and stoutly bred on the dam side - this 5 furlongs might be a tad sharp for her now even if she acts on the ground

  3. Re: Musselburgh 4th April 2.50 Muss - Luscivious - win at 15/2 BOG with Wm Hill This one is seen more as an AW performer these days but has everything in his favour for a successful turf outing Wants cut in the ground, he's won twice over this CD and the stable are in good form He gets to run here off 73 compared to his AW mark of 87, so a full stone better off than he would be at Southwell Ignore his last run at Wolves, he doesn't really act on the poly. Look at his previous run - 3rd in a class 3 at Southwell. The thing to bear in mind is that it was a big field and he had the 'death draw' up against the near rail on the straight track. I reckon he'd have won that day if he'd been in the middle of the track.

  5. Re: LOTD - Saturday 3rd April 4.55 Kemp - Cold Turkey - win lay Favourite on the basis of a win in a CD handicap last time out That was a class 6 and up to class 4 today off a higher mark This horse has run 5 times in the last year, all on the all weather, and has never recorded better than class 6 speed figs accoring to my ratings. He's 10 years old and although well in on old form, difficult to see that he might be improving at that age.

  6. Re: The Morning Cackle I don't usually watch it because I work on Saturday mornings, but caught it today with it being a holiday weekend. First surprise was how the ATR/RUK crew have taken it over.........what happened to the Greatest Jockey, Jim from Timeform, Thommo, Lesley Graham.........I think of them as the Channel 4 team Today was Lydia and Nick from RUK and the Catt from ATR Given that I have ATR/RUK I never actually watch racing on C4 or the Beeb, so I don't know if C4 have got rid of the old guard or not....... I also didn't see the point of Emma..........what does she do ? She's not even 'totty'..............:loon All in all, it's not a patch on 'Mark your Card' on RUK.........

  7. Re: Kempton 3rd April (AW) A few EW shots in the big field races......... 3.15 Please Sing - EW Channons runner is a regular in group and listed races but hasn't won since winning a group 2 as a two year old. I like the fact that she's got some decent form at Ascot, which is often said to be similar to the AW at Kempton since Ascot was dug up and re-surfaced. Also Channon has had a few winners on the AW lately coming back off breaks, looks like he's got 'em ready to run 3.50 Rileyskeepingfaith - EW Another one of Channons. This one ran well over in Dubai without winning. Had 4 runs and got closer to the front with each successive race. Also has good Ascot form and has had a month to reacclimatise back from the desert. 4.20 Paedar Miguel - EW Won his maiden over a furlong further here last time out, ran green but won well. Not too worried about the step back in trip as there should be a lively pace on today. This is only his 3rd run so can improve again 5.25 Totally Focussed - EW One of those Kempton regulars who is going to pop up sometime. Tends to go better in big fields with a good pace on as he doesn't really quicken at the finish, he runs on through horses coming back to him. Todays race should be run to suit. Unfortunately Hugh taylor has put him up so the fancy odds have probably gone.

  8. Re: Kempton 3rd April (AW) Kempton 4.55 - Soundbyte - win at 4/1 BOG with Bet365 and generally available Ran an eye catching run last time out at lingfield, finishing strongly over a shorter trip than today That was his first run back from a break and he might come on a bit for the run and for the extra few furlongs Finished the last turf season with a decent run, 2nd in a handicap over 14 furlongs on soft ground. These last two runs have been his best for a while and maybe he's just coming to himself at the age of 5. He ran a couple of decent races at the start of last season, then tailed off a bit, so I'm hoping early season is the time to catch him

  10. Re: Kithanga's Flat 2010 diary Don't know if it helps your predicament or not but 'Light From Mars' EW is my tentative selection in the race but I probably won't back it because the race looks too competitive. I was hoping they would price up all the races tonight before I decide what to back, but doesn't look like that's going to happen. And if the price is falling as it appears to be, then I'll just leave it alone. (and hope it doesn't win !...........:lol) I enjoyed reading your last post and it certainly rings a bell. At the moment I'm looking for a maximum of two to back, most days just one and missing a few days a week. Obviously I'll see some scoot in that I 'should' have been on but the disappointment of that is far outweighed by the fear of sitting at my computer with ATR/RUK on the telly and betting in every race ! Frankly, that's my nightmare scenario........... Being selective is working for me.........I'm well ahead since I started betting again in February...........I think it's the way to go. Just chalk up the ones that you miss out on as confirmation that your selection method is OK. That's how I'm looking at it.

  11. Re: Lay of the day 1st April 2.40 Folk - Straboe - lay Has won a couple on the all weather lately so form figures look pretty good, but he's got no record on soft ground apart from on his racecourse debut (beaten 42 lengths) Might well be improving but he's up in the weights, up in class and on an unknown surface. All the races at Folk might be a bit of a lottery today on heavy ground.........and I'm still expecting loads of late non runners to completely mess up the card...........

  12. Re: lay of the day - Weds 31st March 3.30 Southwell - Bo McGinty - lay Good old timer who's slipped down the weights and now gets to run in class 6 I'm sure he's capable of winning again now he's in this grade, but he's got the 'no hope' draw today, up against the rail over 5F at Southwell in a decent sized field. Might be better at 6 furlongs nowadays as well.

  13. Re: Southwell 31st March (AW) 3.30 Southwell - Mr Funshine - EW at 10/1 BOG with Betfred This one is drifting in the betting but has pretty decent form, having won it's last 2 races over this CD. Flopped last time at Wolvesm, but was hampered and eased that day Up 4 lbs since last win, which seems a lot for a neck or head, but he never seems to win by more than a neck or head, he's one of those kind of horses who comes late and seems to just get up on the line. Bit worried about this market drift, 10/1 seems a huge price, tho' to be fair he's only 11/2 with Laddies and maybe it's just a couple of firms wanting to balance their books. Whatever, 10/1 is a cracking price unless there's something wromg with him..............

  15. Re: Dettori/Johnston when did they team up? On the Racing forum this morning on ATR they were saying that Frankie is about 3rd favourite for the Jockeys title....... Apparently he's said that he might give it a go this year !......... I think that maybe Godolphin have got so many good three year olds (remember them cleaning up all the late season and AW maidens last year) that Frankie thinks he'll get off to a flyer in the early months so he'll assess where he is by say June and if he's in the running, he might go for the title. I suppose he's trying to get winners early season to give him a flying start ! Personally I can't see him going through with it...........I reckon by mid summer he'll have settled down to riding the big meetings and won't have the enthusiasm for Wolverhampton on a Friday night..........
