  1. Re: Lingfield 30th April (AW) 4.25 Abbeyside - win Not a great fan of Paul Cole as a trainer but I'm trusting that this one is ready to run after a near 2 year absence. Only ran twice as a 2 year old, but the level of form he showed in those 2 runs is way above anything else in todays race First out he won the Prix Yaclowef (sp?) - however it's spelt it's widely regarded as the top race in Europe for unraced horses and regularly throws up top class ones Then on his second start he was pipped on the post by Silver Frost, who went on to win the French 2000 gns I guess it's a big 'if'............but 'if' he's recovered from whatever stopped him running for 2 years, he's potentially a top class 4 year old,

  2. Re: Lingfield 30th April (AW) 4.55 Ling - Mafeking - EW at 16/1 BOG with Victor Chandler. Loves it round here and is a solid, consistant runner in the better aw handicaps. A couple of the fancied ones today look like they're having prep runs for the turf over too short a trip and the other aw regulars have been shooting up the weights for recent wins. Mafeking is only 3 lb higher than his last win and has been dropped a pound since last run. Returning to his best trip at his favourite track, should go well today

  4. Re: Lay of the Day Friday 30th April 4.25 Ling - Tazeez - place lay Only 2 places available and I reckon Tazeez will either win or flop For the win - he's obviously the best horse in the race on official ratings, he won first time out last season and he's a group race winner from the powerful Gosden yard. For the flop -he does his winning at Newmarket and you can't get much different than Lingfield AW to the wide open spaces and uphill finish of HQ. He also wants further than this sharp 8 furlongs having won mainly at 9 or 10 furlongs on stiff tracks or soft ground I reckon at odds on he's worth taking on for 2 places - you have the reliable listed AW performer Suits Me and the class act Abbeyside coming back from a break. The uruguayan horse has won at listed level and could be anything. I'll take 2 of those 3 to fill the places.

  5. Re: Classic Time - Stan James 2,000 Guineas

I'm surprised there hasnt been more interest in the race though' date=' theres only a couple of us that seem bothered and its the first classic of the season. On another forum I have started to go on they have a 22+ page thread on the Guineas :loon[/quote'] On 'another one' I go on it's now up to 25 pages.........:lol But over here we tend to concentrate more on 'todays racing' !
  6. Re: Lay of the Day Wednesday 28th April Ascot 3.55 - Askar Tau - place lay Has been beaten 23 lengths, 24 lengths and 43 lengths on his seasonal debut of his 3 seasons to date. Just that really ! He's probably the best horse in the race, has already won at group 2 level, acts on the going, gets the trip - if this was his second run of the season he'd be a 'good thing' I'm thinking that the yard will have him down as 'needing a run' and might ride him accordingly, go easy on him etc

  7. Re: Lay of the Day - Tuesday 27 April 4.00 Ling - marys pet - win lay 2nd fave..........but I fancy the fave to win and I'm also on an outsider at longer odds EW Mary's pet has gone up in the weights for a win at Wolves and has never registered a decent speed fig I've been really busy all day so this is a panic selection as my aw races are running out.............:unsure

  8. Re: Lay of the Day Monday 26th April My main source of worry is the betfair place rules.......I don't want to be place laying in an 8 runner race where you get a 'non' and you're faced with 3 places for 7 runners.........that's almost half the firld ! I tend to look for 5-7 runner races for lays and if I've got 8 plus, I wait till the last minute to make sure there are no non runners...........:unsure But inevitably at some point you'll have an 8 runner race where something is withdrawn at the stalls and your place lay finishes 3rd..........so it's unplaced under 'normal' rules but 'placed' under betfair rules

  9. Re: Lay of the Day Monday 26th April Wolv 3.00 - Call To Arms - place lay Steps back from winning over 8 furlongs to contest this 6 furlong handicap. He's the most stoutly bred horse in the race according to my patented stamina ratings, so I can't see that the shorter trip will be at all in his favour When he won his maiden he made all - if he tries that today he's drawn in stall 11 of 12 and will have to come round the whole field to get to the front In his favour, he looks reasonably handicapped, is a Johnston horse, and his stamina might come in to play if it's a fiercely run race, as looks likely with 12 runners and several front runners I guess I'm pinning my hopes on the stamina issue - that it'll all just happen too quick for him today and tho' he might be running on at the finish, he'll only be running on into 4th or 5th !

  10. Re: Wolverhampton 26th April (AW) Oh well, I've had another look.......... Wolv 3.00 Thrust Control - EW at 40/1 BOG with Stan James Big odds here for mick channons runner I've got him top of my speed ratings on 'last run'. Even tho' he was well beaten, it was a hot race, run in a fast time. That was over 8F and he was in the frame until weakening in the last furlong or so. Drop back to 6 furlongs today should be OK as it's a big field with several front runners and could be a hectic pace on My selection is drawn in stall 1 and hopefully will get to the front early and keep going when the other front runners are fading, He's already won over 7F so hopefuly won't fade even idf they go pretty fast. ( I actually got on at 40/1 about 10 minutes ago, but in the time it's taken to type this, it's gone to best price 33/1 )

  12. Re: Wolverhampton 26th April (AW) I've had a good look at the card but there isn't anything that stands out........ Last few AW cards have been poor..........I think it sinks down once the turf starts in earnest from the Craven meeting Also i don't like looking at a race and seeing horses that have already been out on turf and coming back to the AW.......I haven't got an angle on their turf runs Think I might put the AW away now until October time........ I've really enjoyed this AW season, plenty of winners, made a really good profit...........now I'll try not to fritter it away during the turf season........:unsure

  13. Re: Windsor 26th April 6.40 Ebraam - EW - 20/1 BOG with Bet365 Could have a squeak at big odds ! He's a horse on the long term decline, it's a question of wether his handicap mark has fallen enough to enable him to win one before he declines further. You have to forgive him his last run when he was well beaten. But if you look at the run before that , 3rd to Tiddliwinks off a mark of 93 in a class 2 handicap, well he should have a chance today off 77 in a class 4 Had a busy campaign on the AW and only managed to win when dropped to claiming company, but to be fair he's been running in the top AW sprint handicaps and Listed races off marks of 98 and 99 - and the horses that have been winning those races are the glitterati of the all weather - Jaconet, Flipando, Glamorous Spirit, The scorching Wind, Elna bright, Matsunosoke etc etc Started the last turf season rated 90 so providing he's not declined too much, should have a chance in this lower grade off his lowest mark since November 2007

  14. Re: Navan - Sun 25th April I still think you're wrong.......... You're confusing Britain and Great Britain........ 'Britain' is a group of islands, 'Great Britain' is a country within those islands, as is the Repubilc of ireland I'm using 'Britain' as short for 'The British Isles' .......... "The expression "British Isles" is geographical and not political. They are a group of islands off the northwest coast of Europe consisting of Great Britain, the whole of Ireland, the Orkney and Shetland Islands, the Isle of Man, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Wight, the Scilly Islands, Lundy Island, the Channel Islands and many other smaller islands." I got that off google, so it must be true............:nana

  15. Re: Lay Of The Day - Sunday 25th April Navan 4.05 - Merchant of Dubai - win lay Swinbank's raider is in good form having won a decent handicap on the all weather and a class 2 stakes at Donny on the opening weekend of the Flat Steps up in grade here and you'd think that one of the two Irish horses with Group form should be able to beat her. Swinbank has sent 3 horses over to ireland in the last 5 years - they've all been placed but none have won He's probably looking for Black Type for a 5 year old filly, who's basically a decent handicapper.

  16. Re: Navan - Sun 25th April Grrr.......... This is the best card in Britain today and thanks to Virgin Media i can't get At The Races (channel not available at the moment.........:@ ) Hope it comes back on before the Listed races later on........... 4.05 - Roses for the lady Prob go off a short price favourite but clearly has the best form - 2nd in last years Irish Oaks to Sariska and in front of Midday Bit of a worry about the ground, wether she'll act on it, but 'good ground' in Ireland probably won't be too firm..........

  17. 4.40 Navan - Hazarafa - win at 2/1 BOG with Betfred Impressive winner of a maiden race last time out It's a maiden race which regularly throws up group one horses and this filly is expected to be a major Oaks contender If she's as good as they think she is, she should take this Listed race on her way to better things. Should like the firmish ground and has a terrific turn of foot BTW - the race is named after Salsabil - what a filly that was !

  19. Re: Lay Of The Day - Saturday 24th April 4.15 Sandown - Crowded House - place lay Won a group one race at 2 but has disappointed since. He's not evidently declined massively, but he doesn't look like a group one horse, that's for sure. Has been over to meydan where he finished 2nd in a couple of group 3 races, then 9th when back in group one He just doesn't look like winning these days

  20. Re: Best Bet of the Day - Saturday 24th April 4.15 Sandown - Redwod - EW at 16/1 BOG with Stan James Has won on his seasonal debut in both of his racing seasons. After winning at the Craven meeting last year he went on to the Dante and it was suggested that that race came too soon as he's a horse that's best fresh Even so, there wasn't much between him, Crowded House and Glass Harmonium, both of whom are much shorter prices in todays race. Shame there's only 7 runners...........I'd be much happier with an EW selection if there was 8, but there we go...........
