  1. Re: best bet of the day - Sat 12th June Ling 7.20 - Moscow Osnik - EW at 20/1 BOG with Bet365 Bit of an in and out performer this one, but he does tend to run ok here at lingfield Won his maiden here over 12 furlongs but has appeared to struggle a bit over 11/12 furlongs recently, often fading in the finish I think the return to 10 furlongs in a big field might suit him, hopefully there'll be a decent pace on and his stamina will tell in the final furlong Yard in decent nick accoring to the RP RTF% figs

  2. Re: Is Royal Ascot on? To be fair..........we've only just got past the Derby....... But it's true that I haven't given any thought to Royal Ascot yet I tend not to think about any races much until the 48 hour decs come out....... And of course, there's the footy............I might even take a back seat on racing for a few weeks.

  3. Re: Lay Of The Day - Friday 11 June 2010 Chep 8.05 - Desert Sage - lay Currently 6/4 favourite for the 12 furlong maiden and is dropping in class after making her seasonal debut in a listed race However she was beaten 7 lengths that day and I'm not sure that stepping up in trip will suit Looks like a 3 horse race and the other two market fancies have more stamina and are trained by Stoute and Cecil - I'm happy enough having those 2 running for me.........against the favourite.

  4. Re: Best bet of the day 11th June Chep 8.05 - Ships Biscuit - win at 5/2 BOG with Stan James Looks like 3 horse race on paper and i'm a bit dubious about the current favourite (Desert Sage ) staying the trip Ships biscuit should get the trip OK and has some solid maiden form in the book - 2 runs and finished around 3 or 4 lengths behind Aviate (went off off fave for the oaks) and Fatanah (hd 2nd in a Listed race next time out) Stoute team in good form

  5. Re: Archive Racecards I was watching the races today and one of the commentators said something interesting ( but probably really obvious !) about claimers....... Look out for claimers in sprint handicaps I suppose the reasoning is that over 5/6 furlongs you're often going to get a finish of heads and necks and 5 lbs matters ! Whereas over longer trips the field is more likely to be spread out and a few pounds here or there makes no difference.

  6. Re: Archive Racecards Blimey........I thought you'd 'racing gold-dust' there for a minute ! A couple of years ago i started downloading racecards from one of the sites, but I can't remember which one....... I thought I'd build up a collection on my computer for future reference......... But when i realised that i was never looking at them and they were taking up space, i deleted them..... I suppose if you were disciplined you could download from tomorrow and in a few weeks you'd have a months worth to test theories on !

  7. Re: LOTD - Thursday 10th June Leop 7.35 - Rayeni - lay Interesting listed race over a mile with plenty of 6/7 furlong horses and a favourite in Recharge who looks like he wants further I'm laying Rayeni on the basis that his biggest defeats have been when he's tried a Mile and all his runs have been on soft/heavy ground, don't know if he'll cope without the mud flying.

  8. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - 10th June 2010 Hayd 7.50 - Lesleys Choice - EW at 12/1 BOG with Laddies Keeping my eye out for horses that I followed on the AW over the winter coming back to turf on a much lower mark This one improved a lot over the winter and is now rated 91 on the All weather Races here off just 74 Last win was in Class 3, last run in Class 2 - lower mark means he can run in class 4 on turf Bit of cut in the ground should be ideal as he has won 3 times at Southwell last winter

  9. Re: HAYDOCK - Thursday JUNE 10, 2010 7.50 Lesleys Choice - EW Keeping my eye out for horses that I followed on the AW over the winter coming back to turf on a much lower mark This one improved a lot over the winter and is now rated 91 on the All weather Races here off just 74 Last win was in Class 3, last run in Class 2 - lower mark means he can run in class 4 on turf Bit of cut in the ground should be ideal as he has won 3 times at Southwell last winter.

  10. Re: Lay Of The Day - Wednesday 9th June 9.20 Kemp - Regeneration - lay Currently favourite for this 12 runner hcap, but I've got him down as a Lingfield specialist and he has no course form here. He might be just as effective here, he might even be better !.........but there's a doubt as his only win away from ling was at warwick, a similar sharp LH track Apart from the doubts over the course, he's also on a career high mark and thanks to that win at warwick, he's now 10lbs higher than his last AW victory

  11. Re: Best bet of the day 9th June Kemp 9.20 - Defector - EW at 16/1 BOG with Paddy power Goes well over this CD, has won twice and only been out of the first 3 once in his 6 runs over CD Has a few lengths to find with Regeneration on their last time out runs at warwick, but I don't think Warwick would suit my chap and it was his first run for a few months. Regeneration is a 'lingfield type' and would have been well at home at Warwick I think Defector will be up around regeneration today and as that one is favourite, then my chap looks a good EW at 16/1

  12. Re: Lay Of The Day - Tuesday 8th June 3.00 Redcar - Lutine Bell - lay Currently 7/4 fave in a 16 runner three year old handicap. He's had a couple of runs in handicaps off todays mark and finished 3rd both times which suggests the handicapper has him about right You'd hope that some of the other 15 have got in lightly, most of them are pretty lightly raced types. The 'lay selection' had a couple of runs on the aw over the winter but didn't look anything special I think his odds reflect his trainers name (prescott) rather than his ability

  13. Re: Windsor 7th June (eve) Well done chris ! With Crazy Chris and Brouhaha and Riflesione..............I always notice when what i think of as 'all weather' horses win at big prices on turf. One of those, i think it was brouhaha, was about 12 lb lower on turf than he's been running off on the aw this winter. I'm sure this is something really worth looking into..........:tongue2 It's certainly something I'm giving some thought to. Maybe it's just that i don't notice all the horses from the aw season who run on turf and get beat............and tbh I don't look at most turf races before the race, I'm just looking at the results. My initial thought, without any research, is that it doesn't work the other way round because horses who have a good turf season, then run on the AW get backed into favouritism because it's perceived that they're dropping in class from turf to the aw. Whereas horses coming from the AW onto turf with a lower mark are written as 'he's only an all weather horse' Definitely something worth looking into !

  14. Re: BBOTD - Monday June 7th Ponty 7.45 - Golden Shaheen - EW at 12/1 BOG with Wm Hill Put up some decent performances in all weather maidens towards the back end of last season culminating I an easy win at kempton. Before that had finished 2nd to a decent sort in Fallen Idol Ran in one of those million pound sales races at Newmarket and was beaten about 9 lengths but he was on the wrong side and finished 4th on his side All his runs have been at 7 furlongs but the return to 6 furlongs could well suit him as he's pretty speedily bred but should have the staminia to come up the hill Decent low draw. The odds on fave is drawn wide

  15. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Sunday June 7th 3.50 Southwell - Provost - lay Very up and down performer and has been well thrashed on his last 2 visits here, although he is a CD winner Won a race at Wolves a coule of runs ago but back up to old tricks on subsequent runs and beaten 19L last time. He's going to win the odd race, but he'll be trailing out the back more often than not

  16. Re: BBOTD - Sunday 6th June Southwell 3.50 - Business Class - EW at 8/1 BOG with Victor chandler Topweight, has a decent record over this CD, 3 runs and finished 3rd, 1st and 4th. The 4th was on his latest visit here and was his best performance, in a much better race won by Elusive Fame. That performance puts him top of my speed ratings. He's down in the weights, down in class and likes the track - what could possibly go wrong ?

  17. Re: Lay Of The Day - Saturday 5th June Epsom 4.00 - Workforce - lay Can't see this one winning - don't think he'll be suited by firmish ground (he reportedly has a soft ground action, high knees or whatever the sign is...........:unsure)...........and that probably means he won't handle the downhill sections very well either Might well come into his own later in the season on flatter tracks with good or softer ground, but don't reckon today will be his day.

  18. Re: best bet of the day - Sat 5th June Epsom 4.00 - Hot Prospect - EW at 66/1 BOG with Stan James Doesn't look like a tip top renewal of the Derby and the ones at the head of the market look much of a muchness. I like Rewilding most of the top few Could be an upset today and i think Hot Prospect is overpriced at 66/1 I reckon he could well reverse the Lingfield trial form with Bullet Train, who had the run of the race that day, sprinting from the front off a slowish pace. With the pacemaker in today for the O'Brien horses it could be a more decent gallop and my fellow travels well in his races Stable in cracking form and in what looks a substandard renewal, he should have place chances.

  19. Re: Best bet of the day 4th June Epsom 4.05 - Meeznah - EW at 33/1 BOG with Bey365 I reckon Akdarena is really going to stretch them out and I'm not sure if the field will get back to her, so the runners that are heeping her company might be in prime position and the real stayers might be the ones to benefit from a fast pace. I think Akdarena and Meeznah look like the two with the most stamina and at the relative odds. I'm going for the bigger priced one. She was pretty impressive winning her maiden and lightly raced types have won the oaks before, so her lack of group race experience doesn't put me off. (I'm dithering a bit because i started this post picking Awe Inspiring EW, but changed my mind half way through - blimey I hpe that one doesn't win now at 50/1 :loon)

  20. Re: Lay of the day June 4th Epsom 4.05 - Aviate - place lay Banking on her stamina giving out as i think this will be a real slog with Akdarena stretching them out Cecil's filly won the Musidora and is entitled to be amongst the favourites here, but she won that race with a turn of speed off a slowish pace. Extra trip and likely stronger pace today might well blunt her turn of foot
